As predicted last week, the Brit pack is joined by Will Young, whose 2003 UK number one, Leave Right Now, benefits from his appearance singing the tune – which was the ‘exit’ song for losing contestants in the 2010 finals - in the penultimate American Idol of the season the previous week.

 

It generated sales of more than 30,000 copies for Leave Right Now last week – enough for it to enter the digital tracks chart at number 50, and the Hot 100 at number 81.

 

It is also getting modest support from Adult Contemporary radio stations, and improves 30-27 on Billboard’s ranking of tunes on said panel.

 

American Idol winner Lee DeWyze and runner-up Crystal Bowersox make only modest impressions, with DeWyze’s ‘coronation’ song – a remake of U2’s Beautiful Day – snaring a number 24 debut, the lowest for any coronation song in the series’ history. Bowersox’s top tune, Up To The Mountain, debuts at number 57.
