May 26, 201015 yr Will Young “Leave Right Now” How is it that Young won the “Pop Idol” crown waaaaay back in 2002, but this is his first U.S. album, and it’s only an EP at that? You may remember that he sent shockwaves through some of the British music industry when he declared he was gay, but it certainly didn’t hurt his career across the pond. His debut single went on to shatter U.K. sales records. I guess people cared more about his honey-smooth vocals and less about who he was shagging? At any rate, his 2004 British hit “Leave Right Now” has been featured on this season of “American Idol,” and he performed the song during Tuesday’s season finale, part 1. Hopefully, you checked him out and saw what we’ve been missing all these years in the U.S. http://www.projectqatlanta.com/news_articl...al_day?gid=5539
May 26, 201015 yr Can you believe all this? Thanks to Janet on D for this... :cheer: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5...pg2.html?cat=33 Lackluster American Idol Finalists Outshone by Visiting Pop Idol Will Young is a Genuine Pop Idol with Staying Power On the last night of performances by the would-be American Idols, Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, both were completed outclassed by the visiting real deal—the original British Pop Idol, Will Young. Will Young is a mesmerizing performer who showed not only vocal chops but charisma and versatility during his competitive run on the British precursor to American Idol. The fact that he later turned out to be gay has not tarnished his musical reputation one bit. He is not inclined to the utterly over-the-top, beyond-the-top theatrics of former almost-Idol Adam Lambert. Nor does he have the "Kick Me" sign on his back that so often characterizes Clay Aiken's public persona since his almost-win a few seasons back. Will Young's performances of "Evergreen" and "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" are immortal classics in my book. His voice is lyrical, melodic, and at the same time deeply soulful. He is a performer of rock-solid musicality (no fear whatsoever of the "pitchiness" that haunts so many would-be idols) and a calm, transcendant self-confidence that DeWyze and Bowesox can only dream of. DeWyze is particularly out of his depth. He is barely karaoke or theme park performer worthy. He is so palpably, grimly awkward on stage, his hair awkward, his facial expression revealing anything but comfort as a performer. Simon Cowell, not wanting to pan him given his finalist status, chose his final words of critique very carefully. He said that Lee was a nice guy! And that's all he said! There was no comment on the quality of his performance whatsoever. Bowersox was much the stronger of the two in the finals and throughout the season. She has a powerful, tuneful voice. However, her stage presence is very limited and has not improved much throughout the season. Like DeWyze, she seems very awkward moving on stage. But unlike DeWyze, she keeps her eyes practically closed while performing, giving the strong impression that she is avoiding connection with the audience. This is absolutely unacceptable in a professional performer! Bowersox also suffers from being a niche performer---strong in her genre of Janis Joplin hits and bluesy numbers—but not in other genres. I am sure that Simon Cowell is bitterly disappointed with how this season turned out on American Idol and probably feeling a sense of relief at moving on to other projects. I am having a very difficult time being interested in the outcome of the DeWyze-Bowersox duel. I would prefer to listen to my Will Young CDs. Edited May 26, 201015 yr by Sweetwilliamfan

May 27, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the Instinct pics munchkin. Great to have the setlist confirmed. Here's the guy who tooks the photos comments on the gig. Last night I hit up the Instinct party that Will Young performed at after he sang "Leave Right Now" live on American Idol. When I got there (it went down at Ultra Suede in West Hollywood), Will was outside, still in the suit he wore on Idol earlier. Later he performed five songs—"Your Game," "Changes," "Who Am I," a cover of the Beatles' "Golden Slumbers" and "Leave Right Now." Obviously the club was a much smaller venue than Will is used to playing back home in the UK, but he was a great sport and he and the band gave a pretty amazing performance for his first L.A. gig. Anyway, I took all these pics, and you can see even more in a gallery I posted this afternoon over at Idolator. The positive press & buzz continues. :cheer:
May 27, 201015 yr A post on the O/S Home page - thanks to Bumbling on D for spotting this: Caught you on AI last night--Brilliant! I am a 47 year old man who hates signing up for things online, and abhors the whole "fan" thing. But your performance last night gave me chills, and that has only happened one other time, when I heard Stephanie Mills sing "Home" for the first time. I went straight to Amoeba Music and purchased your CD this afternoon. Wishing you much success here in the US. An instant fan. -Rock This is what he needs. - press alone isn't sufficient - hype means nothing if the 'punters' don't buy  I'm loving that the folks in the US are feeling how we first did 8 years ago .... and are still doing  Edited May 27, 201015 yr by munchkin
