April 16, 201015 yr Will's going to the States on the 12th May :yahoo: Thanks to Smiler,Carole and Julie for spotting this - fabulous news: April 15, 2010 | 03:50 pm PT Getting to Know Will Young Will Young was the winner of the very first Idol show, Pop Idol, in the UK during 2002, which spawned the Idol franchise. His single, “Leave Right Now,” is the song you hear during the eliminated Season 9 Idols’ goodbye packages each week. Recently, Will caught us up on what he’s been busy with lately. The inspiration behind “Leave Right Now” came from “love, and feeling the need to talk about the clash between the heart and the mind,” Will said. “I didn’t write that song, Eg White did, and he’s worked with Adele on ‘Chasing Pavements’ and with James Morrison. Most songs I sing are about love.” When Will was on Pop Idol, he stood up to Simon Cowell. What advice does he have for the Season 9 finalists as they receive critiques from the judges? “Pop Idol was the first of this format of show on TV, so I just followed my instincts, but remained polite. I fought for what I believed in. My advice to the American Idol contestants is to follow your instincts and your heart, but do it in a nice way. Can you tell I studied politics?” How does it feel to be the first winner of a show that launched the worldwide Idol franchise? Will said, “It feels really great to be a part of American Idol and have an exit song which plays every week. Idol is such a big brand now. It started as nothing, but it touched audiences, and people like to have a hand in starting someone’s career. I’m really proud.” At only 31 years old, Will has now spent about eight years in the music industry. “It’s been an incredible experience,” Will shared. “I’m always learning, and I’ve never lost sight of loving what I do. Things can get hard, but I’ve never lost my passion for music. I love what I do!” What’s next for Will Young? “I have some jazz gigs in London. Recently, I sang with Groove Armada. I’m also shooting a film in Serbia, working on Shakespeare’s Coriolanus with Ralph Fiennes, working on a song with Groove Armada, working on a documentary, and writing a book and my next album.” The U.S. will get another dose of Will when he releases eight tracks digitally on May 4th. He’s coming to the states on May 12 to do some performances. “I’m looking forward to coming to Los Angeles again. I’ve been to LA for a film, but I’m excited to come out for music this time.” When we say goodbye to the next contestant on Wednesday, be sure to listen for Will’s “Leave Right Now.” http://www.americanidol.com/news/view/pid/2976/ He never stops does he  I notice he mentions another song with Groove Armada too. I wonder what 8 tracks he's going to release. Thanks for thr news about ITunes - great stuff  Edited April 16, 201015 yr by munchkin

April 16, 201015 yr Thanks to Julie will4me on D :cheer: Billboard Radio Play info for LRN 17.4.10 HOME SWEET HOME Hi Gary, Wouldn't it be wise for Will Young's "Leave Right Now" to be released in the U.S. as a single, based on its usage on "American Idol" when contestants are voted out? It's an incredible song. It would be a huge hit. Thanks, Steve Barry Brooklyn, New York Hi Brad, It may not be music to the ears of now-former "American Idol" finalists, but "Leave Right Now" is now being promoted to adult radio by Jive Records and receiving support. The British-born Young could likely sympathize with those dismissed from the competition, at least partially. He's gone through the stress of the original "Pop Idol" contest in 2002 but emerged as the franchise's first champion. The success of the series - which included judge Simon Cowell - spurred international spinoffs, including the U.S. version. Early believers in "Leave Right Now" include KISC/Spokane, Wash., WJKK/Jackson, Miss. and WJXB/Knoxville, Tenn. With airplay last week on 10 stations, the song is bubbling under the Adult Contemporary chart. Previous "American Idol" send-off songs have impacted Billboard charts. Carrie Underwood's remake of Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 last year and has sold 352,000 downloads to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In 2008, Ferras' "Hollywood's Not America" rose to No. 16 on Adult Pop Songs. It has sold 366,000 downloads since its release. So happy with the ten stations support so far! :cheer: and imagine if Will sold 300k plus with his first release in the US?? :o :w00t: Edited April 16, 201015 yr by Sweetwilliamfan

April 18, 201015 yr Thanks again to Julie..Adult Contemporary have 692 stations..so Will has a mountain to climb! but hey...if anyone can  I think that's counting all the tiny stations...Britains has absolutely hundreds and hundreds of stations but nielsen music control only monitors about 120 stations [and some of them have a very small audience] the other stations in the UK are so small they wouldn't make a difference to airplay. •More than 14,000 radio stations registered with the FCC in the United States But only a small amount are monitored, and when you break it down to just AC stations the number will be even smaller. electronically monitors more than 1,700 radio stations in the top 150 U.S. metro markets, 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. Those radio stations are broken out into specific radio "panels," and included in the most appropriate "format" above. Songs moving downward for a pre-specified number of weeks are removed from the charts. All charts are based on radio spins, with the exception of Country which is points based That chart posted up is based on 97 AC stations. Edited April 18, 201015 yr by Sunday
April 18, 201015 yr His plays have doubled so far this past week 61 spins at the moment and there is still the rest of Sunday to add. the song is bubbling under the Adult Contemporary chart. he was at #39 when this was written. so he should enter the top 30 this week
