The singles only chart started in late 1975.

Earlier, in 1962-75, there was a different sales chart with singles and entire albums. At this moment I have complete information only about #1's on that chart. Among the songs that represented Sweden in those years, two were at the top:

69 - Tommy Korberg - 3 wks

68 - Claes-Goran Hederstrom - 2

In 1974 ABBA's entire album "Waterloo" spent 12 wks at #1. Single "Waterloo" in Swedish was at #2 and in English at #3.

If on the chart would only singles, "Waterloo" would be #1...

Poor Malena, the first since 2001 not to top the chart there! Stopped by the horrendous Tingallin :drama: The song that was the runner up in Melodifesitvalen 1995, Det Vackraste by Cecila Vennersten was as big if not bigger than Jan Johansen's song - it spent months and months in the top ten, eventually reaching #1 in Sweden a few months after the contest! Sweden really started taking ESC seriously in the 00's clearly, since the reinvention of Melodifestivalen in 2002 I guess which turned it more into a monumental and hyped yearly event rather than just 'let's pick our ESC entry'.
