Posted March 20, 201015 yr Just over a week to go until tickets go on sale and the line-up is announced. Arcade Fire, Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance seem to be the main rumours for headliners. Not that bothered about MCR and don't think Arcade Fire are quite at the headliner stage yet but who knows. Excitement :D Edited March 20, 201015 yr by Rich
March 20, 201015 yr I am going to Reading. it will be my 5th year in a row. The headliners are dreadful. Blink-182 I am very excited to see. Otherwise I can see this being an extremely weak line up based on the headliners being extremely weak, especially compared to all the other major festivals. They are making themseleves a laughing stock, and becoming more and more like V every year. In 2008 Melvin Benn talked about being less commercial, like f*** after last year. It's something I have grew up with, it makes me extremly sad to say I may not bother again after this year.
March 20, 201015 yr Author I am sure it'll be good regardless. It'll be my 5th year as well (providing I can get a ticket). I read today Guns N' Roses and The Libertines are also potential headliners. Don't like Guns N' Roses enough to watch a whole headline set I don't think and I wouldn't have thought The Libertines would be playing until next year at least, if they reform at all? Paramore, You Me At Six, Cribs, Lostprophets all seem to be strongly suggested so I reckon I'll see all of them clashes aside.
March 20, 201015 yr GnR and Libertines are 'rumours' on efestivals, where as Arcade Fire and blink are 'To Be Confirmed' and MCR are 'Strong rumour'. I dont know where GnR came from but some reliable guy is adament Libertines are but Carl ahs a solo album out this year and Pete seems quite busy with Babyshambles atm aswell as them saying if they do reunite it will be next year, it just wont happen tbh. if only, i'd have my faith restored if they did. GnR would be awful though, but not as awful as MCR.
March 20, 201015 yr I've already got my ticket, but i'm not sure whether i'll end up going. Just depends on whether I need money for other things, who else is going and what the line-up is going to be. The only thing that's certain imo at the moment is Blink-182 headlining. The other headliners i'm not sure. Arcade Fire will definitely headline i'm sure, but there are a lot of rumours that they'll co-headline with The Libertines which I could see. I don't think MCR will headline the mainstage. I'm sure I read something about Eminem being a potential headliner, as he was meant to be playing Wireless but he's not anymore? Then there's the Guns N Roses rumour as well. Is quite exciting.
March 20, 201015 yr Author I read something about one of the organisers saying one of our headliners is "bigger than Jay-Z", which could back up the Eminem rumours?
March 20, 201015 yr The Libertines wont be playing trust me. Arcade Fire would be good but no way big enough to headline imo. Same with MCR although instead of good they would be terrible. but they are too bug to headline a tent. maybe they just shouldnt play at all. Eminem is a UK exclusive to T in the Park I believe, would be epic if he did. I dont think he was ever gonna play wireless, I heard it though.
March 20, 201015 yr Author I'd be outraged if MCR headlined over someone like Lostprophets. Give MCR have just lost their drummer and haven't finished their album surely they won't play? Or maybe that's just wishful thinking. I don't mind them, but they're not a headliner in my opinion.
March 20, 201015 yr I can see it being MCR headlinging and lostprophets subbing them. lostprophets self confirmed i think.
March 20, 201015 yr To be honest, i'm expecting something a bit out of the blue with headliners. You can just tell somethings gone wrong/happened because of the lack of definite rumours (aside from Blink and Arcade Fire). I sort of think Festival Republic wanted Muse, but then they couldn't have Muse if they were playing Glastonbury, and then i'm 100% positive they will have tried to get Green Day as well, but now they're playing their own stadium shows I guess FR didn't like that? I know they're pretty tight on their exclusivity.
March 21, 201015 yr yeah i reckon that has happened to, before muse and green day annouced stadium shows i really thought they would be the headliners, it's obviously f***ed up a bit, although FR seem to be the worst organised people ever, they only gave us the ticket date like last week :s Melvin Benn once said when asked about having Glasto style tickets to beat touting he gave some bull$h!t answer about how glastonbury can sell out without annoucing anyone where as Reading couldnt, which is bull$h!t seeing as the website is so blocked up on ticket night it isnt possible to view the line up before buying a ticket and yet they still sell out, but if he is that worried about selling out, how about actually announce things a bit more rather than giv elike 2 weeks notice.
March 21, 201015 yr Reading/Leeds would both sell out even if the headliners were say My Chemical Romance, Razorlight and Limp Bizkit for example. The festival is so commercialised and at least 1/3 of the people who go just go maybe to see one band (usually a headliner) and get pissed in a field for 5 days. I'm convinced there's a little suprise, and IF the headliners were Blink, Arcade Fire & Libertines and Guns n Roses that line-up would be a little bit good I think. It's not completely to my taste, but it just sounds a good line-up.
March 21, 201015 yr libertines and GnR wont be though. especially not libertines. You're probably right, but i'm not ruling anything out just yet. Only just over a week until we find out anyhow.
March 22, 201015 yr Strictlyreading have added The Libertines and GnR as rumours, but it's the fact they are just 'rumour' on efestivals where as MCR are 'strong rumour' and Arcade Fire is 'to be confirmed'. i am very doubtful of the libs playing but it's starting to seem more likely now. I can see it: FRI The Libertines Arcade Fire SAT Blink-182 Weezer Paramore SUN Guns N Roses Lostprophets My Chemical Romance I think we could possibly in for a surprise due to them being f***ed over by Muse and Green Day but GnR and Libs just seem a bit... unlikely. GnR would be a joke, doubt Axl would turn up. Libertines would be amazing, Pete will probaly be late though. and if MCR and Arcade Fire are headlining, big risks from FR.
March 22, 201015 yr I got my ticket after last years festival so am just hoping for a good lineup now. Arcade Fire are awesome, so even though I don't really think they're big enough to headline they'd still be great. Weezer would be good :) The rumours are a bit strange this year, I think there will be some surprises as well.
March 22, 201015 yr to be fair the overall line up could be poor but the lock up stage would still make it worth me going. who is everyone hoping for realistically? I'd love these bands to play: Alkaline Trio, Atari Teenage Riot, NoFX, Streetlight Manifesto, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Rancid, The Futureheads, Weezer all could realistically play.
March 22, 201015 yr I don't think Arcade Fire would be a risk. I've really come round to them being able to headline now. Don't get me wrong, I don't think their crowd would be massive, but last year for example, Radiohead were the biggest band that headlined yet they probably got the smallest crowd overall. Arcade Fire are pretty big now, and i'm sure after their next album they'll only get bigger. My Chemical Romance would be a very bad choice. I can see them getting bottled. But I can see them either subbing GnR, or headling the NME tent. Blink, GnR and Libertines/Arcade Fire would be a very good set of headliners though even if they're not all to my choice. Still not convinced it will happen, but we'll see...
March 22, 201015 yr http://twitter.com/the_libertines lolz. I think Arcade Fire are a risk because of the new album, for all we know it could be $h!t and do $h!t (i know it's unlikely to be $h!t but still) where as FR are probaly banking on them having sudden massive popularity KOL style, in the end they want to sell festival tickets, not please us loyal to the festival with a strong line up. MCR are a risk for the same reason I just gave AF. MCR would be too big to headline NME, but not big enough to headline, I think subbing would be best for them (OR MAYBE NOT PLAYING AT ALL PLZ). Libs/Blink/GnR would be strong, and would gasm over Libs and Blink, would laugh about GnR playing, but we have tents for that situation, i dont need to see them.
March 22, 201015 yr MCR are on the same sort of level UK wise as Lostprophets though? I imagine they'll probably command a bigger fee, but I could see them headling NME. I think it'll be something a little like this: blink-182 Paramore Weezer Arcade Fire Libertines Pendulum GnR My Chemical Romance Lostprophets
