CHERYL Cole has given the strongest hint yet that she’ll appear on the upcoming American X Factor – but she’s terrified the Yanks won’t take to her.

The Geordie raved that she’d “love” to be asked by close pal Simon Cowell to become a judge on the US version of the reality TV hit during an appearance on Fearne Cotton’s Radio 1 Live Lounge show today.

But the love-split singer feared she is not well known enough across the pond, and fretted: “It’s a really scary. It’s like, why would they give a beep what I thought?”

Cheryl, who was originally booked for the Live Lounge and also Jonathan Ross’s chat show last week but had to pull out after coming down with bronchitis, added: “I mean they don’t know me out there and I’ve got this weird accent.

“But I love the thought of it. I’d love to do it and I’d get a buzz out of it but whether they would get a buzz out of me is a different thing.”

And the stunner – who has put on a brave face publically since recently announcing her split from her love rat husband Ashley – also said that women can relate to her more because of the ordeal she’s been through.

Talking about being an inspiration to others, the 26-year-old hinted at her recent heartache, saying: “There’s going to be times when I make mistakes when I make a bad choice or whatever…but I’m hoping that’s also an inspiration to women.”

It was announced yesterday that Cheryl has been voted the most inspirational British woman of the decade – and she couldn’t have been more chuffed about it.

She gushed to pal Fearne: “There’s not a better feeling that you could have than being an inspiration to someone else.

“I just love that feeling of being an inspiration to other women so it’s the perfect title for me.”

And showing that she’s not going to let Ashley’s infidelities get her down, she revealed she’s “positive” about her immediate future.

Admitting her touring schedule is gruelling, she said she’s relishing it, explaining: “It’s all good, all positive.”

And despite her recent heartache, Cheryl is clearly being kept positive by her Girls Aloud bandmates and said she still catches up with them all the time.

Admitting she’d been up drinking with the girls last night, she joked: “It felt like a really good idea to have a couple of drink with the girls last night so I’m feeling a bit worse for wear but the bronchitis has gone.

“I shouldn’t have had so much to drink last night.”

But she refused to say whether she has signed up for this year’s X Factor at home, explaining: “No-ones really told me anything.”

She did hint though that it’s highly likely, telling listeners: “I’d love to be back, of course.”

And when Fearne asked her if she liked comedian Rufus Hound’s version of Fight For This Love on Let’s Dance, she broke into a fit of giggles.

Clearly impressed with the moustached comic dressed up as her, she heaped praise on his performance, saying: “How good was he? I was poorly on the night and I was rooting him on.

“I’m going to steal some of his moves, he’d better watch out.”
