Ooh err, I can't say I expected to win that one! :o I'm glad though, M$ney was severely underrated, didn't deserve to finish so low. :( It was one of the few times where I though "yeah, this'll go top 10" about my entry!

Black sunshine should've won that! It's wonderful!

SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY ALERT. The Eva Simons Memorial Award for Most Overrated Entry of 2009, dedicated to that mash-up of everything popular in 2009, DJ Earworm - United States of Pop 2009 Eva Simons - Silly Boy, which as every schoolchild knows is the current holder of the highest points score ever in the BJSC with 268 points, as well as the highest points margin over 2nd place (88), is awarded to the entry which everybody just got a bit too overexcited about. Cue the apparently good, but not greats (SHAME ON YOU FOR THREE OF THESE THOUGH):

Herzebania XIII - Agnes Carlsson – Release Me

Kathaldazia XIX - Eva Simons - Silly Boy

Mdiče XV - Royksopp/Robyn - The Girl and the Robot

Numayania XIX - Alcazar - Stay The Night

Numayania XX - Alphabeat - The Spell

And the winner is... Kathaldazia XIX - Eva Simons - Silly Boy. Go on. Just try to pretend you were shocked.

Deserved! I wouldn't have had a problem with it winning by a small margin of 5 or 10 points but the fact that it broke all of those records was a bit  I think I gave it 3 points, and I remember thinking that was a bit too generous of me at the time

Release Me and Stay The Night though - my top 2 of last year and both in my top ten of the noughties - so I definitely wouldn't call then 'good, but not greats' :drama:

Ah, the Best Nation Comeback Award for 2009. Given I got my first DNQs in 2009 and was generally amazing in 2008, I'm shocked/honoured to be nominated for this, but really? Anyway, the BNC Award is given to the country which has made, song-quality wise, the best improvement throughout the year 2009. The sometimes debateable, sometimes deserving, and sometimes downright bizarre nominees are:

BaNG

Camdonia

FNT Nickodonia

FSR Rontvia

Kathaldazia

Kopečka

Ojnoj

And the winner is... FNT Nickodonia! Well, fair enough really! Nickodonia used to be the laughing stock of the BJSC, going from VIII to XIII without getting a single qualification, and qualifying just the once in 2008, only to finish at the foot of the table. However, after sending Velvet and finishing 3rd in XIV, Nickodonia have turned their fortunes around with just two DNQs since in 2009 and a fair set of respectable results!

Release Me and Stay The Night though - my top 2 of last year and both in my top ten of the noughties - so I definitely wouldn't call then 'good, but not greats' :drama:

Ditto, they're amazing songs. I mean, obviously I sent one :kink: But I do wonder if Eva Simons would have won this if not for the name...

Congrats Nick, very well deserved - I've certainly noticed the improvement! Into 2010 too, kicking off the year with my favourite BJSC discovery to date (and YTD #1)
technically Eva could have been my first victory if Kath didn't reserved her some minutes before me :(.

Tyron blocked her a month too soon...

Ojnojian president, Gavin Mikhail has officially stormed out of the arena. He is said to be "disgusted and amazed at the lack of support shown for Ojnoj". Other reports are saying he gave a "wet willy" to President of Nickodonia on the way out.

On with the fantastic awards. The TMBP Memorial Award for Best Discovery of 2009 is dedicated to the memory of tmbpop.blogspot.com, a once spectacular site for unknown pop used for some of the BJSC's greatest entries which has since declined in quality, with no TMBP-exclusive entry having finished top five since XXI! Anyway, this award goes to the best entry which we probably never would have discovered without the BJSC...or at least, in the case of Ke$ha, never thought we would discover without it! In a playlist worthy of a Popjustice 'AMAZING.', the nominees are:

Espen XIX - Katzenjammer - A Bar In Amsterdam

FSR Rontvia XIII - Sound Of Arrows - M.A.G.I.C.

FSR Rontvia XV - Emiliana Torrini - Jungle Drum

FSR Rontvia XVII - Beautiful Small Machines - Robots In Love

FSR Rontvia XX - Anna Abreu - Music Everywhere

JRK-off XVII - Owl City - Strawberry Avalanche

Kathaldazia XV - Jody - Wind It

Kopečka XXI - Dollface - Miss Jamaica

Mdiče XVIII - Ke$ha - Dolla/TiK ToK

And the winner is... Kopečka XXI - Dollface - Miss Jamaica! Well, what can I say? DOLLFACE WAS ROBBED. Hands up if you can remember how Boys Will Be Boys went?

technically Eva could have been my first victory if Kath didn't reserved her some minutes before me :(.

You wouldn't want to have won the most uninspired award anyway would you?

I didn't vote for Eva Simons (in this or the original contest) I always found it a bit overrated, it certainly didn't deserve such a good result, I just didn't like other songs nominated for it even more.
lol at Ojnojian president

Congrats Tyron, though I really thought this would be Beautiful Small Machines :snif:
Anna should have won that! :( Dollface was and still is shit. Priscilla or Kaci (or BOTH!) should have been nom'd instead! :(

No not at all :P

all I wanted is a first victory and the point record.

lol at Dollface...seriously I will never get how it finished 2nd?

and the most shocking was a 12 from Rontvia :o
