SUGABABES ARE HEADING DOWN A NEW DIRECTION

After dealing with the loss of Mutya Buena and moving on with newcomer Amelle, THE SUGABABES are preparing for a fresh start. Following the release of their fourth album "Taller In More Ways", the girls are back on track and have started work on their next record.

"A Greatest Hits is on its way," says Keisha, the last remaining founding member of the band. "It will include re-recorded versions of all our past singles, as well as a couple of new tracks."

Amelle, it seems, has been enjoying herself and has settled perfectly into the band. "We've written about ten new songs now. Some of them will be on the Greatest Hits, and others will be on the new album."

"I think, with this album, that we're heading down a new direction," says Heidi. "We're changing our image. Musically, anyway."

Mutya's departure has encouraged the band to spread out and explore other horizons, Keisha explains. "Mutya left to do her own thing, so she can make the kind of music she wants. She kind of inspired us to explore our options too, while still being in the band," she says. "Being in the Sugababes, I can honestly say that we have experimented with different types of music. We've done pop, rock, rnb, crunk, reggae, and all sorts of different genres. Now we're ready to take another step forward."

"The new tracks we've done are really different from what we usually do," explains Heidi. "The writing process is different, and our music has changed too. We're planning on doing some indie and garage."

"Definitely," Amelle agrees. "We're definitely doing some garage. And some songs we've done are just completely different genres rolled into one."

"Actually we've written some solo songs as well," says Keisha. "We went into the studio and ended up recording them as a group, but they're still sounding pretty great. We also go our separate ways and pay a visit to our songwriters and producers on our own. Like, for example, I visited Mike Stevens, who's helping us with our latest track. I recorded my vocals and we finished the mixing and everything. Then the next day, Heidi visited him and recorded her verse. Then she suggested some changes in the song. Same thing happened with Amelle. When I finally got to listen to the final track, it sounded so different from what I've heard when I first recorded my vocals. All three of us have different input. Most of all, we all have different tase in music, so our suggestions are quite different individually. The final product sounds like us, and I think that that's the most important part. It sounds like Keisha, Amelle, and Heidi all at the same time. So, basically, one song sounds like three different songs in one."

A legal issue ensued between Buena and Berrabah regarding the Greatest Hits.

"Let's not get into that," says Keisha silently. "The main point is, Mutya didn't want Amelle to re-record her vocals. Let's just say Amelle lost the battle."

Amelle nods. "Let's just leave it at that."

Then what about Siobhan Donaghy?

"The first girl won't be in the Greatest Hits," says Keisha. "She's simply just a founding member, but she wasn't really a huge part of our success, was she? Most fans don't even know her."

The Greatest Hits will be out later this year.

They're making sure they aren't labelled as pop because of the success of Push The Button :D

Notice Keisha's comment about Siobhan :o

I don't think they should change their sound too much. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

They can be so bitchy when they want to be can't they?

They aren't changing their sound, but their albums have been different

One Touch was full of garage/indie

But then again most of the AWDF tracks were tinged with garage

And so was 3 with indie

It'll be good
