Typing Eurovision into Google as one does, I came across a song on YouTube entitled “Time Stood Still” the alternative Eurovision UK entry. I clicked on play fearing the worst! I was pleasantly surprised, great melody, great arrangement, instantly hummable and beautifully sung. Intrigued I messaged the person concerned and asked for a little more info. This was the reply:

(quote) Hi Emily, Thank you for your nice words, its really great to get feedback especially from a Eurovision junkie (we are a rare breed indeed) You guessed right, this is not our first Eurovision song, it is in fact the fifth we have sent to the Beeb over the last seven years, but as yet we haven’t received a reply LOL. In answer to your second question, no we are not big time anything, just love to write songs and perform…but yes, I would love one of our songs to figure in a Eurovision final…and I wouldn’t even mind if they didn’t want me to sing it. It took us two days to write arrange and record, hence its not perfect, but we were so angry and disappointed with the lack of care and passion shown by organizers and writers (especially the presentation of a half finished song) that we had to get it out there quickly hoping that their were others that felt the same as us. We don’t think we have the right to have our song heard, but just want to show that the UK has a plethora of great writers, maybe not well known but passionate about what they do. Oh well, there’s always next year….maybe after the nil points we’ll get this year I’ll actually get a reply from auntie Beeb! (quote)

Nuff said I think!

Absolutely dire. I prefer Josh

Its not a singer competition, but maybe you didnt realise that?

I was talking about the song, not the singer. Very dated, would be completely odd for Eurovision and not in a 'Satellite' sort of way, but in a 'this definitely won't work' sort of way. The BBC had obviously planned to use an established songwriter again this year, so until they stop doing this, there's little point sending anyone else sending in songs - the BBC are very tunnel visioned. Even if an incredible song with winning potential was sent to them (a la Fairytale), they'd still snub it if they'd already promised some has-been songwriter the job.

I prefer Josh's song to this is what I meant, and it's hardly a masterpiece itself. So in answer to your question, the BBC will overlook everything until they start actively requesting song submissions again.

I actually quite like this, but it's very old fashioned. If I could give some constructive criticism, the backing vocals are too loud, and for some reason it reminds me of this:

Added to that, the song is 10 seconds too long...

Kay...the video is 3mins 10secs, the song is exactly 3 mins. I agree about the backing vocals being too loud but then again it was all done in two days...I hasten to remind people that the official entry arrived half done, at least this is a complete arrangement.
It sounds like something from the Dana era  . Quite nice, but this is 2010 not 1970.

You've got a point actually. I wonder when we'll be hearing the proper version of our song?

The song is not great and would need a massive overhaul to even be considered in the running if it made Eurovision. For a "Eurovision junkie" they certainly don't appear to have watched Eurovision for the last ten years.

I'm also starting to think that for somebody who just stumbled across the song, this Emily person sure is passionate about it...

Particularly when the first 5 members by the poster (all now deleted), were just '.' in 5 random topics...smacks of joining up to a forum specifically to promote yourself/someone you know somehow :P

I'd be somewhat surprised if I typed 'Eurovision' into Google and this came up in the first 100,000 results to be honest :heehee:

Same...I actually tried it and there's no sign.

I have seen the song being posted in other forums (not under the same pretence admittedly) and I really have to stress that it isn't a dreadful song, but it's really not right for Eurovision in any sense, and I'm extremely put off by the arrogance of the person/people behind it and the stance that they are the obvious and best alternative.

Indeed.

I can think of 100 better songs off the top of my head that would be better UK Eurovision entries. But that's not the point, I'm all for internet promotion (I used to promote my own music on BuzzJack and you have to start somewhere!) but be honest about it, don't make up a transparent fabricated story, get the actual artist on here talking about music in the forum like the rest of us before introducing us to their potential entries. I guarantee it will get a more positive response.

Haha...just listening to this song again, and I do quite like it! That said, don't think it'd do particularly well. Better than Josh is going to though probably...
