A great ending to a very cleverly written series, and well-acted. I think it was a satisfactory ending.

All credit go to the team behind the series, production, writers and cast.

Indeed. Certainly a far, far, far more satisfactory and moving ending than Lost had.

Thank goodness I gave up on that halfway in Series 1 when it became pretty god damn obvious that all the characters who "survived" the initial aircrash were actually dead, and living in some sort of purgatory world. ..... and hence all the strange goings on that island that were not natural, logical or normal.

Yet even now on internet forums all over the world people are still arguing that they survived the aircrash and that island was real and normal, and that they actually died as and when later throughout the six series.

So what did Happen in Lost? I lost interest when the animals thing happened.

I agree with the first sentence but you clearly have no idea of Lost's story and seriously misinterpreted the show. Not wishing to bast*rdise this thread but the Lost purgatory thing only comes in after island events.

Back to Ashes... great show, great sequel and a brilliantly played finale. Essentially Lost and Ashes have the same ending but one is satisfying and befits the show, the other is hokey and lazy.

Plus Ashes has this... 'I'm arresting you for murdering my car you dyke-digging tosspot'

What a load of cobblers. It became pretty obvious midway through Series 1 that all the characters died in the initial plane crash on that island, and were already in purgatory.

Lost was pretty much a six season long version of Ghost Whisperer or The Sixth Sense.

To believe otherwise is clutching as straws. Or are you SERIOUSLY trying to tell me that all the too many to mention unusual things that happened on the island were normal.

In short Lost was a six series show about characters going on a journey to eventually escape purgatory on that bizzarre island.

I suggest you actually watch it all before jumping to ill informed assumptions. It is a sci-fi show and believe it or not unusual and unnatural or unexplainable things can happen in them. As I've already said, yes they did have the purgatory thing in it but events depicted on the island happened in a 'supernatural' (fitctional) real world place. After leaving the island/dying on the island they then went to the purgatory situation so they could all be reunited.

Agreed. You need to watch the show to understand.

Basically everything that happened on the island WAS real. Each of the main characters were brought to the island because they needed the island, they just didn't realise it until the end of the show. LOST is essentially a sci-fi show, and a lot of the things can be explained. The island healings power was down to electromagnetism, and the whole polar bear thing is explained with a logical explaination...

None of the surviving characters died in the plane crash. I've watched the finale three times now, and i've seen the ending countless of times. Kate even says to Jack when she remembers, and he doesn't that 'it's been such a long time since i've seen you'. And Ben & Hurley talk about protecting the island for countless years. And then Christian explicitly tells Jack (and the audience) that everything that happened on the island was real. The purgatory world was created by them all as a sense of realising that they all shared the most important time of their lives together on the island. Personally for me, I thought it was brilliant and moving. Not seen Ashes to Ashes since the very first finale, but the ending does seem very rewarding and sad.

I suggest you read this article: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracke...ash-images.html it clears up a lot of things that have given people the impression that they 'all died in the crash'.

This sums it up neatly

I shall say no more on Lost in this thread as it should be about Ashes...

  • 4 weeks later...
The BBC is reportedly planning to revive Ashes To Ashes character Gene Hunt.

At the end of the last episode, it emerged that Gene, played by Philip Glenister, had died and was trapped in limbo.

However, The Mirror reports that the BBC is now thinking of developing a new spinoff placing Gene in the present.

A senior BBC drama producer allegedly claimed that the move would be "rather interesting" and added: "The popularity of New Tricks, which features three yesteryear policemen doing a good job in the modern era, shows that old 'uns can still be good 'uns."

Ashes To Ashes co-creator Matthew Graham has previously suggested that Gene Hunt would only reappear if "Hollywood came calling".
