November 27, 201014 yr Author It seems to be a bit extreme but has she thought of joining them? If they need 8, 4 of which will be unfilled die to maternity leave, I feel sorry for whoever gets one of the remaining 4. Let's hope they both keep their jobs.
November 27, 201014 yr I hope all goes well and they can keep their jobs. Such a worrying time. Even my job isn't safe with all the cuts
November 28, 201014 yr Hope they can keep their jobs. Sadly none are safe but the government is spending £2 million on a survey to see if we are happy. For the first time ever I dreamt of Darius but he was singing in another room and by the time I went to see him he was fast asleep in the chair.
November 28, 201014 yr The spectre of redundancy is very unpleasant. I've been under it twice(in different jobs), but with some manoeuvering and a little luck, I've dodged it both times. I really hope they're able to do the same Sue. Positive descrimination is still descrimination and is unfair in my opinion. The jobs available should go to the best people for the job, be that all of those who are pregnant or on maternity leave or none of them. A student that worked for us as summer staff in London one year was going to Cambridge to study English. She was of the opinion that, because in the past, male applicants had been given priority, that it was time to redress the ballance by allowing more female candidates than male. I argued this was unfair and it should just be the best candidate regardless of gender, but she wouldn't take my point. I then countered by saying how would she feel if her application was turned down, only to allow someone with poorer results and potential than her to take her place, simply because they were part of another group which had been potentially descriminated against in the past, say an ethnic minority or a pregnant student etc! I could see the light bulb go off inside her head, though she never conceded to me that I might be correct. The best person for the job should get the job, regardless IMO.
November 28, 201014 yr The best person for the job should get the job, regardless IMO. That's how I see it too.
November 28, 201014 yr For the first time ever I dreamt of Darius but he was singing in another room and by the time I went to see him he was fast asleep in the chair. Nightmare again then!!
November 28, 201014 yr I've dreamt of D several times. On most occasions the people around him are stopping me from seeing him(but I usually find a way), or my other favourite, I can't find my camera equipment  I have had some nice dreams about spending time with him though :) Don't you just hate that alarm clock sometimes! It ALWAYS goes off as I'm about to sing with him -_-
November 28, 201014 yr Lol, Paul. I don't use an alarm clock and I never ever dream of singing - that would be far too scary a nightmare.
November 29, 201014 yr Lol, Paul. I don't use an alarm clock and I never ever dream of singing - that would be far too scary a nightmare. :D
December 1, 201014 yr Author It looks as though people all around us are having snow problems. Overnight a slight sprinkling (like icing sugar only thinner) is all we got. No workmen though as they got a lot more. I'm absolutely certain that, in my lifetime, there has never been snow in November before.
December 1, 201014 yr we have missed the bulk of it in wycombe so far, we have a little left over snow, and its bitterly cold, but we seem to be avoiding it..uless the wind swings round, i have half of asdas stock under the stairs though, and we are all kitted out in case
December 1, 201014 yr Author With the house in the state it's in, I've nowhere to put a stock of goods. I'll be surprised if we get snowed in though (rash words there)
December 1, 201014 yr yup, that is what I have been told, but I rest easier, last year was about the first that I didnt stock up, due to OH telling me we werent going to get that much snow these days - - I used to always have loads in and get laughed at
December 1, 201014 yr We've got our first lot of snow today, Manchester area, not too bad as yet. Daughter has had really bad snow falls and thunder and lighening at the same time up in the Newcastle area. She's been working from home for the past few days because the offices are shut. In Blyth they can't even get to the building as there's well over a foot of show in the car park which the caretaker can't get cleared! Sue
December 1, 201014 yr Hope Manchester stays clear for Saturday as I'm meeting my son there and going to see 30 seconds to Mars. He's a foot of snow in Leeds and is worried he wont make it Saturday. I did say I might drive him back but no cars are making the hill where he lives so parking would be a huge problem. I've asked him to train there and back. We will have to leave it till Saturday to make a decision.
December 1, 201014 yr Author I hope it goes alright, Spam. The train before mine was cancelled and the one after indefinitely delayed. I abandoned Nina and ran like mad to get onto the last coach seconds before it went. It was a slow, cold train but it got me home. Gatwick airport is closed on another worrying note.
December 2, 201014 yr Hope Manchester stays clear for Saturday as I'm meeting my son there and going to see 30 seconds to Mars. He's a foot of snow in Leeds and is worried he wont make it Saturday. I did say I might drive him back but no cars are making the hill where he lives so parking would be a huge problem. I've asked him to train there and back. We will have to leave it till Saturday to make a decision. It's ok here still Pam, the north side of Manchester, had a bit more snow but nothing too bad, although it's worse on the east side. It's bad driving over the top into Yorkshire, but it doesn't take much for that journey to be a nightmare. Sue
December 4, 201014 yr We had quite a lot of snow last night but it's thawing this morning. Heading to Manchester later to meet up with Neil. He's going to train there and back to Leeds. It's bad in Leeds still. Really looking forward to seeing 30 Seconds to Mars :D
December 5, 201014 yr Met up with Neil. Have a lovely meal together then headed to the gig. They were Brilliant. Had to ask directions back to the car park  Neil's train was cancelled so he's on a coach heading back home. I had fog all the way back so bad you couldn't see the signs till you were on top of them. Glad it was only a short journey, well shorter than my usual ones :)
