if money had been INVESTED in some of the coalmines, they would have carried on producing a more competitive product, keeping people in jobs.

it had nothing to do with economics, that was an excuse, it was all about smashing the unions. tatcher LIED about not having a pit hit list, scargill was proven to be RIGHT.

Miners had a chance to buy their pits, several in Nottinghamshire and I think Derbyshire did and ran them as going concerns, profitable and productive mines were spared by McGregor too

Pinochet saved the lives of thousands of British servicemen by giving them intelligence information and allowing Chile to be used as a refuelling base for British planes, whatever his regime was up to he was of valuable use to us in that conflict and I am grateful to him for that

You didn't exactly address Suedehead's point about Stalin mate... He who murdered over 30 million Russian Jews or sent them to the Gulags... So, ARE you similarly "grateful" to Stalin for helping us out during WW2 by bogging Hitler down in a Russian winter...? I suppose you think the Poles should be similarly grateful to Stalin for allowing Hitler to wipe out hundreds of thousands of Polish resistance fighters in Warsaw...... Prat...

A scummy dictator is a scummy dictator, end of... Hitler loved animals, I guess the ALF should forgive him killing 6 million Jews because he was kind to his pets.... <_<

I don't recall any information from the UN suggesting us defending our territory was illegal

The Falklands conflict had a UN mandate

But hey you would rather we had stood idly by and had British citizens ethnically cleansed clearly

Argentina was run by a deranged dictator in Galtieri with an appalling human rights record, British citizens in the Falklands were in danger, the Falklands was right

If Galtieri had had the islanders killed or tortured or whatever Maggie would have got appalling stick for sitting on her arse doing nothing so it was a no win situation for her

That wasn't gonna happen, they could have left the islands at any time and come back home... The facts are, the islanders were not treated badly by the teenage Argentinian conscripts who were forced to be there, they weren't used as human shields or anything like that.... -_-

Conservative Liberal Democrat coalition agreements

I must say most of this is really good if it actually gets done.

They've sold out on Trident though.... VERY disappointing.. If there's this huge concern with paying back the deficit, £100 bn is gonna go a lot further to achieving that than £6 bn.. I mean, I'm no economics professor, but 100 is a bigger figure than 6 I think.... -_-

How the hell does investing in Trident help us..? Iraq and Afghanistan are CONVENTIONAL wars (we're hardly gonna deploy nukes in countries we're supposedly developing), and FFS, it's HELICOPTERS AND ARMOURED VEHICLES the troops out there need, not bloody nukes... As for North Korea, well, let the Chinese handle that, not our problem, NK's nukes cant touch us, I would say that Japan would have more to be concerned about, but I dont exactly see them going out and buying any nukes.... Same for Iran really, let Israel deal with that if it needs dealing with, Iran is no threat to the UK.. Our biggest problem is DOMESTIC terrorism, and, well, how does Trident prevent Mohammed detonating himself on the 8:45 to Paddington...? It doesn't... Policing and Intelligence gathering however, does.... And Tory London Mayor Boris, twat that he is, has plans to cut 450 coppers off the streets of London....

you have just proven my point!

they COULD have been invested in and turned around from run down loss making ventures into profitable businesses, proof that thatcher was out to smash the union at any cost and create missery for many miners as unemployment rose to 3 million....
