April 5, 201015 yr I'm surprised but delighted that The Beatles are still as high as #2 over 3 decades after they disbanded. Just imagine how many download sales they have lost just because they don't allow their music to be bought in this format. I would have guessed at Madge being #1 and expected the Stoke-on-Trent Norman Wisdom impersonator at #2; but I would have expected Queen & Abba to be in the top 5 along with this decades answer to Dire Straits or Phil Collins (Coldplay) in the top 5. The biggest surprises are the low finishes of Britney especially compared to Pink; and Girls Aloud compared to the Sugababes.
April 5, 201015 yr Author During 2001-2003 and 2006-2007, commercial radio wasn't big on playing Britney's music. Girls Aloud have always had big airplay hits, but some of their signature songs (The Show for example) never charted that high on airplay. GA weren't airplay STAPLES like the Sugas were until "The Promise" anyway.
April 5, 201015 yr good list but i sort of expected Anastacia to be there, LOA was very popular on radio wasn't it? glad to see Kylie and The Killers there.
April 5, 201015 yr Blondie? Four Tops? Eurythmics? Obviously I dont live in the UK and am not familiar with their local radio stations but these are a surprise.

But Sugbabaes were staples from Overload onwards really...

Tbh it doesn't surprise me, Pink's hits are incredibly radio friendly, Get The Party Started, Family Portrait, Who Knew, So What, etc. I still here them now and again.
April 6, 201015 yr Here is an Article from today's 'The Sun', about the UK's Decade 'Most Played' List. As happens often, their 'Journalists' are so stupid, that they make an illogical mistake in the Article. They say that The Beatles were previously thought to be the most played BAND in the UK, but that this is now shown not to be the case - because Madonna is. Since when has Madonna been a Band?! The Beatles are STILL the most played Band in the UK. How many 'Journalists' get their jobs has always been a mystery to me. How they keep them is an even bigger one..... THE ARTICLE:, Madge beats Beatles to No1 By RYAN SABEY and VIRGINIA WHEELER MADONNA is the most-played artist of the past decade - ahead of THE BEATLES, it was revealed last night. The Queen of Pop topped a list of acts based on airplay and public performances in the UK between 2000 and 2009. The Fab Four were previously accepted to have been the most-played band in the country. But they are now second to Madge, 51 - whose hits include Material Girl and Ray Of Light. ROBBIE WILLIAMS came third in a top five dominated by Brits, ahead of QUEEN and TAKE THAT. The list was drawn up by royalties body PPL after counting radio and TV airplay - along with songs being played in pubs, clubs and shops. The most modern act in the top ten was girl group SUGABABES. PPL chairman Fran Nevrkla said: "It is an accurate and democratic reflection of the most popular artists of the last decade." End of Article.
April 6, 201015 yr Where is Natalie Imbruglia? I thought Torn's been played a lot, even on it's 2nd decade. Shiver was the most played song in 2005 too, am i right?
April 7, 201015 yr 'Torn' would be in the 20th Century, not 21st. ;) That's right, but it's #17 on the most played song of the 21st cent!
