Posted July 8, 200619 yr So, here's a retro list of number ones for you! BTW, the info on this list may not correspond with some of my chart commentaries, which are usually written from a patchy memory. Anyway, enjoy! So, let's kick off the countdown with January to April! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/58/Scissor_Sisters_-_Filthy-Gorgeous.jpg/150px-Scissor_Sisters_-_Filthy-Gorgeous.jpg Scissor Sisters - Filthy/Gorgeous - *1 week in 2005 + 3 weeks in 2004* 642,000 CR: 23-6-4-2-1-1-1-1-4-7-12-17-20-26 [14 weeks] Possibly the oddest Christmas number one I've had EVER, Filthy/Gorgeous was a campy rollercoaster which took my chart by storm, following up the Sisters' previous three number ones, Laura, Mary and Take Your Mama Out. Finished #14 in the Year End chart. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/55/Ciara_goodies.jpg/150px-Ciara_goodies.jpg Ciara feat. Petey Pablo - Goodies - *6 weeks* 830,000 CR: 14-5-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-5-6-7-13-16-25-23-21-38 [18 weeks] Goodies, which had already been a huge hit in the USA, staying at number one over there for seven weeks, burst onto my chart on the last chart of 2004 at 14, and things only got better. By the time it made number one over here in the UK, Goodies was at the peak of its popularity on my chart, and was only knocked off by another of my favourite artists. Goodies was the joint longest chart-topper of 2005 (along with Be Without You) at 6 weeks, and was #1 on the YTD chart of 2005 until June, and finished at #7 in the YE chart. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/20/Black_Eyed_Peas_-_Dont_Phunk_With_My_Heart_-_CD_cover.jpg/150px-Black_Eyed_Peas_-_Dont_Phunk_With_My_Heart_-_CD_cover.jpg Black Eyed Peas - Don't Phunk With My Heart - *3 weeks* 780,000 CR: 9-2-1-1-1-2-5-6-7-7-7-9-12-20-18-19-26-35 [18 weeks] After 6 weeks with Ciara at the reign, a change was needed. Enter the Black Eyed Peas, who came in with one of their 'phunkiest' songs yet - Don't Phunk With My Heart was a great way to kick off Monkey Business (which was the second best selling album of the year in my personal album chart), although I still believe that had they released 'My Humps' first, they would have scored their second UK number one. Don't Phunk With My Heart finished at #9 on the YE chart. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/bb/12Step.jpg/150px-12Step.jpg Ciara feat. Missy Elliott - 1, 2 Step - *3 weeks* 804,600 CR: 24-6-2-1-1-1-2-4-5-7-8-6-5-4-7-5-7-11-14-16-24-24-25-27-34-37-37-39 [29 weeks] Let's face it, after a break of 3 weeks, we needed Ciara back. In came 1, 2 Step, probably one of the most booty-bouncing tracks of the year which got EVERYBODY up on the dancefloor. 1, 2 Step spent 3 weeks at the top in March and ensured the 'Goodies' album won the battle for chart supremacy with 'Monkey Business' in the first quarter of the year, although in the end the Black Eyed Peas won overall, although 'Goodies' spent the year record of 9 weeks at the top of the album chart. 1, 2 Step finished at #8 in the YE chart and was the longest running song of the year. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/10/HGG.jpg/150px-HGG.jpg Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl - *2 weeks* 1,140,000 CR: 22-20-16-11-6-2-1-1-2-5-6-7-9-9-15-26 [16 weeks] Few times she went around my chart but she's not just gonna hang around like that, the song was Hollaback Girl! The song was Hollaback Girl! Gwen scored one of the biggest hits of 2005 with this undoubtedly catchy track - say what you will about it, but you can't deny it was catchy! In any case, this track took L.A.M.B straight to number one on the album chart, however, the song didn't hang around long after it exited the top ten, falling out after a week...yes, I was slightly embarassed. That didn't stop it from being the 3rd best selling track of the year, selling in excess of a million copies and my musical tastes as well . http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4f/Javine_-_Touch_My_Fire_CD2.jpg/150px-Javine_-_Touch_My_Fire_CD2.jpg Javine - Touch My Fire - *2 weeks* 380,000 CR: 4-11-20-31-X-X-9-1-1-4-24-40 [10 weeks] Javine took Eurovision to the top! And as usual we flopped in the contest and Javine did a trademark Eurovision chart run - high debut after first few hears, wearing off, then charging back to the top 3/number one in the run-up to the contest, and then running out of the chart in embarassment at its (inevitably) bad position, and failing to even show up on the YE top 40. Oh dear. But, I say it about every British entry and will say it again, we were robbed...
