A new film version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer could be set to hit the big screen, in a reboot of the franchise for a new generation.

However chances are that character creator Joss Whedon won't be involved, with the new film having no connection to the 1992 film or 1997 TV show of the same name, aside from the fact that it revolves around a young vampire slayer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, that means there will be no place for popular characters Willow, Xander or Spike, with the re-launch having a darker vision with the potential to launch a franchise.

Fran Rubel Kuzui, who directed the 1992 movie, is developing the project with her husband Kaz, together with Roy Lee and Doug Davidson of Vertigo Entertainment.

They are currently meeting with writers and will soon start shopping the project around studios. Although the team hasn't entirely ruled out Whedon's involvement at this point, they are yet to reach out to him.

So would you want to see a Whedon-less Buffy?

Hmmm the '92 film pretty much sucked and Whedons writing is what pretty much made Buffy so i would like to see him return for this.

I'd only be interested in something like this if the Whedon-Buffyverse returned; I can't imagine Buffy being anything without Willow, Xander, Anya, Dawn, Faith, Giles etc all involved in it I'm afraid.

If they do go ahead without Whedone, I can't see it doing too well IMO.

Well....

Anya is dead...so she won't be back!

and how cud they do a movie without Willow, Xander and Giles especially?? :(

i watched the ENTIRE series not too long ago.....what a great show! Made me laugh so hard sometimes haha!

So, they want to do a "darker" vision or whatever.... Then, basically it'll just be "Blade" with a chick or a bit of a rip-off of the Japanese Manga film "Blood - the last Vampire", which WAS basically a much darker versh of "Buffy" set in a post-WW2 school in Tokyo....

Hmmmm, this change to a "darker vision" couldn't have anything to do with the fact that a live-action version of "Blood.." is due out in cinemas next month could it.....?

Why dont they follow on the franchise and base it on Whedon's Buffy comic....?

Universal will turn the children's book series Where's Waldo? into a feature film, having now acquired the screen rights from Classic Media. Martin Handford created the franchse.

Illumination Entertainment will produce the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Waldo had recently been put into turnaround by Paramount and Nickelodeon.

There's no word yet on who will write or direct the picture, but the plan is to make it a live-action family film. It's also not yet known whether this Waldo, like Paramount's scrapped version, will be a time-travel story, or whether supporting characters such as Odlaw, Wizard Whitebeard, Wilma, Wenda, Woof, and the Waldo Watchers will be in it.

ONE BIG LOL AT THIS.

Merged this with the Forthcoming Movie News as not much has been coming out about the next HP film/topic didnt have a huge discussion.

Also, edited first post to include the news i posted as well as edited Josh' post to let everyone know what film he was talking about.

Kirsten Dunst has reportedly been confirmed to star in the fourth instalment of the Spider-Man franchise.

According to the New York Post, Sony producer Todd Black has said that Dunst is returning as Mary-Jane, laying speculation to rest that the actress had been debating signing on to the project.

Black also confirmed that there are no plans to marry Peter and Mary Jane in the highly anticipated sequel.

However, when asked about who the villain would be in Spider-Man 4, the producer kept tight-lipped.

Black said: "We're just coming up with who the villain's going to be now. We'll be shooting in New York again. Trust me - people will appreciate who we pick, because it'll be a big part of New York."

JJ Abrams is on it, so it will be good basically, its just a fact for me now, if JJ has a part in the film, it will be good.

Well, he's not directing it, so I dunno.... MI3 was good because he was directing it, and I think he co-wrote it as well.... The start of the film was absolutely brilliant, a sequence which could've come straight out of "Alias", the simplest ideas are often the best.... And the choice of Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the main bad guy was just pretty inspired, he was fantastic and more than made up for Tom Cruise being a bit naff....

Has Tobey MacGuire actually agreed to do Spiderman 4, in the last spidey movie he suffered a back injury, as he said in an interview he had no plans to appear in further spiderman movies.

^Yep both Tobey and Kirsten are in for Spidey 4 ^_^

Both Sam Raimi and Tobey signed contracts for both Spidey 4 and 5

yeah but he produced Cloverfield which is amazing, and he had a lot to do with that, shouldnt really underestimate the job of the producer really, if it has his influence i trust it will be good.
