England defender Sol Campbell is to leave Arsenal for a fresh challenge after five years with the club.

The 31-year-old has been an integral member of The Gunners' team since his controversial switch from Tottenham in 2001.

He helped Arsene Wenger's side to five major trophies during his time at Highbury and had appeared to recover from a difficult period midway through last season.

However, Campbell has decided that now is the time to move on, although he admitted that it had been a tough call to make.

"After much consideration, I have taken the decision to leave Arsenal," he told the club's official website.

"I have spent five fantastic, trophy-filled seasons at the club, with many truly memorable moments, including winning the Premiership title in 2004 by remaining unbeaten for the entire campaign".

Well I could see it coming TBH, I mean over the last few weeks all the papers have being linking him with Pompey and Fenerbache and if he ever wants to get back in the England XI (which he probably never will) then he needs to play regular football. This now leaves Arsenal short of cover at the back as I doubt Senderos will be fit for the new start of the new season.

It doesn't suprise me really. It was probably a mutual decision ... they've been flogging dead wood with him for a good 6 months now.
Now that Campbell's gone I would REALLY like someone like Cannavaro to replace him but I think he'll be going to Real Madrid.
Cannavaro would be an awesome signing for them. If he's going to be playing in the Italian 3rd diviision I doubt he'll want to stay. I'm sure Mr. Wenger will rather pay more for an unproven youngster though like he always does...

Cannavaro would be a brilliant signining for Arsenal but I don't think he'll go there TBH. Wenger will probably look for another youngster from somewhere around the world. Cannarvaro will probably move to Chelsea IMO.
Wasn't there a rumour a while back that Wenger was looking at a young Ivory Coast defender who was mates with Kolo Toure?

You mean his brother Yaya Toure ? We're meant to be signing him soon apparently.

No he's a midfeilder isn't he? I've forgot his name but it's another Ivorian defender, the one I have in mind.

I don't know who you're on about ...

Pity, Judas is an embarrassing has been now and him going off to Turkey will mean that we will not be able to laugh at him any more

If I was Martin Jol I would sign him up and make him clean the toilets at WHL
