April 16, 201015 yr Preston, Those comments seem muted to me compared with the barrage of abuse which was posted before some of them saw Darius in GWTW and realised he wasn't the guy they remembered from Popstars. 8 comments only - two of which were about his name change, one saying he wasn't too bad in GWTW and another saying he was the best part of GWTW, one person suggesting he might take the lead in the tour of Chess, one who didn't want him to do Chess, one who said when he saw him on PSTOS he was awful and one who says he'll soon be back on reality TV. All very mild. I'm not sure what the connection between Chess and Carmen is. They're completely different styles. However, I'm pretty sure Darius is one singer who could comfortably do both. Josh Groban and Idina menzel did a 2 night concert version of Chess at the Albert Hall last year
April 16, 201015 yr no, the coverage has been positive, I was just meaning in my own head the worry was ever present..LOL, good job Darius is as brave as a lion, to go for it and exerience all opportunities life can give him, I know he will be great, just being a worry wart due to those seemingly always lieing in wait , in GWTW they did the same - but had to concede he was great! .
April 16, 201015 yr It's certainly a touch exciting being a Darius fan - he goes dead quiet for a while and then he'll ratchet it up by so much, if he was anyone else, I'd just think no that's impossible and watch between my fingers. With Darius when he announces something, I gulp, think good gracious that's a real challenge and then start thinking about the next turn of the ratchet and having succeeded, whether he'll take up another challenge along the same line or go off on another tangent. Atm he's doing three things I was hoping he would manage to juggle - touching base with Scotland, keeping a presence (larger than I thought he would at this stage) in the world of classical music and reporting back that he has indeed been working in the studio on his next album. It's also clear that he's enjoying life and having fun outwith his public working hours.
April 16, 201015 yr I just love it, he never ceases to amaze - how boring would it be,(even though its tough in the quiet times) if he was just your average straight forward popstar..LOL he has never been that!
April 17, 201015 yr Classic Fm have caught up with the news http://www.classicfm.co.uk/music/music-new...us-star-carmen/
April 17, 201015 yr Thanks BT. Bit more imagination and the right photo..... Darius to star in Carmen Friday, 16 April 2010 17:24 Darius Campbell, the winner of Popstar to Operastar, will perform his first full opera on 23 May, Bizet’s Carmen. In February, Darius told Classic FM that he was keen to move from a pop to classical crossover career, if he were to win the TV talent show Popstar to Operastar. The 29-year-old singer has always had an affinity with opera thanks to his father’s passion for the genre: "My Dad is such an opera fanatic and I think he always hoped for me to follow a more classical route." Darius had the opportunity to sing single arias and duets in Popstar to Operastar. On 23 May his stamina will be tested as he performs his first full opera. He hasn’t chosen an easy venue at which to make his debut: the Raymond Gubbay production will take place at London’s O2 Arena, with a cast of more than 200. Darius will play the role of bullfighter Escamillo, whose famous Toreador aria he sang on Popstar to Operastar. Raymond Gubbay commented: “I watched Darius’s progress on Popstar to Operastar with great interest. To move from pop to opera is hugely ambitious but I know Darius’ passion and dedication to this project will result in a very fine performance as Escamillo.” http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/1PamP/darius-campbell-1264419022-article-.jpg Edited April 17, 201015 yr by SpamFritter
April 17, 201015 yr I'd like a bit of a smooth ride Meg, you know it's always going to be a stomach churning rollercoaster ride where ever Darius is concerned. We just hold tight, close our eyes and hope for the best, but this time with Carmen, I really feel he'll give a great performance. Sue
