I haven't read a full book, but have seen the odd page enough to know what Bramley is saying(thanks Bramley). Not my cup of tea, but Mum enjoys them, so should be good for her at least.

Half price now, typical! I bought Mum and Dad top price tickets with that £10 off offer a few days ago  Oh well, money's overated anyway, isn't it  I've never had enough of it to know really

Oh dear, half price tickets seem to indicate a lack of buyers. But then, there are around 24000 seats to sell.

I do hope there will be a large enough audience to carry the performance. Nothing worse than a nearly empty theatre.(or arena)

(I don't read Mills and Boone, but I think the plot format is well-known.)

I felt I needed to know what it was all about before I saw it, so bought the DVD. Haven't played it yet. Thanks for the link Bramley. I find it quite hard to understand what she's saying. Perhaps your ears have to get accustomed. Sue

I can rarely tell what sopranos in particular are singing, the lower voices seem easier to follow.

But I think that the sheer scale of this production will give it huge visual impact, lots of colour and movement.

Does anyone know if this production is related to the earlier Albert Hall one in any way? Is that the DVD that you

have bought, Sue?

And how well-known in the opera world are the other people taking major roles?

I hope D doesn't encounter jealousy from the cast because of his swift rise to major role.

My DVD is just a cheap one I picked up on Amazon. It's recorded live at Earls Court London, starring Maria Ewing. Sue

It's said to be the same as the sold out Albert Hall one. They have about 70.000 seats this time though.
Was flicking through tv channels in middle of night, couldnt sleep and by chance landed o n freeview channel no.90 - TV news just as Darius' name disappeared so I waited and eventually a big advert for Carmen came on with a background of fireeaters etc on stage etc etc and a voiceover saying it was Ds first opera role and then a competition to win two tickets for it and 4 dvds. The competition was what show did Darius become famous on - a- pop idol b -dancing on ice and c - the jeremey kyle show. It to me seemed a strange channel to advertise this opera. It is geared to high street musical, glee, disney, pop etc etc. I did wonder if it in some way was attached to the O2 as another competition was what was the 02 called before it became known as that. However it seemed completely the wrong place to advertise Carmen but would have been Ok for colourblind if you know what I mean.Just not the right viewers but I suppose any advert is better than none.
Do you know I didnt take note of the dvds but at least two werent carmen but the closing date for the competition is tuesday so it may be on again.I feel they have gone a bit haywire with the promotion again like GWTW - notice that the evening standard write up for the reduced tickets says D is appearing in the evening and have seen the same elsewhere..

I had to ask about that before I bought my ticket. I wish I'd waited now as I'd save a lot of money.
I noticed someone on twitter had booked and was flying in and she had booked for the evening not realising he was on the matinee only. She was very upset. Why cant these PR people get things right.

Was she the one who booked for the Friday one? Darius answered her on facebook and she seems fine about it now. There has never been a Sunday evening show - The Evening Standard got it wrong. Tickets were only given for the only show on Sunday - the matinee.

I seem to have heard there is a DVD of the Albert Hall production, must check it out.
