Posted April 16, 201015 yr I'm going to tell you the situation, then you tell me what you'd do if you were near the top of the EBU managing team people (like Svante): A volcano has erupted in Iceland. Many flights can't fly. A lot of countries are affected - including the host, Norway. So, if this went on for another month, and flights couldn't go to/leave Norway, how would you get the participants to Oslo? Cancel the contest? Alternative transport? Each act perform in their own country (live), and each of those performances is transmitted across Europe? NOTE: This isn't just a silly/pointless thread. All entries have been selected, and we are now waiting for the actual contest, so there isn't much other ESC discussion happening at the moment. We need this thread - and your ideas! _________ On another note, in 2003, the UK got no points. Some people said the war might be to blame. So I hope Iceland don't expect to do well now, because there's a lot of unhappy people stuck at airports, and they won't want to vote for the country whose volcano caused all this :P
April 16, 201015 yr This volcano is fabulous. I just love the way it's completely paralyzed air travel and it's doing far more for the environment than that silly earth hour thing  I think the idea of having each act perform in their own country could work best, unless they travel via an alternative method to Oslo (Train/boat/by road) . The contest could be postponed if worse comes to worse.
April 16, 201015 yr Boats, trains, cars and careful contingency planning would ensure that all of the aritsts got to Oslo in time I reckon :P
April 16, 201015 yr Author I think the idea of having each act perform in their own country could work best But that would leave a lot of unhappy people [Jerick :kink:] with tickets, and a lot of the artists not actually being there :P I think Josh could maybe ferry to Denmark, and then ferry to Norway. Niamh could do the same, but ferrying from Ireland to the UK first. Anna could probably walk it, and Hera would have to swim - no one will want to help out Iceland  2009 had a lot of controversy - Armenia showed a monument in the background (and on the board) while reading out their votes - a monument that Azerbaijan claimed to be their's (or something like that) I know how to create controversy this year - have the said volcano in the background during Iceland's vote reading, and then a lot of booing erupts in the arena. Pun intended.
April 16, 201015 yr Last year Azeri people who voted for Armenia in ESC (or vice versa) have been interrogated like they are criminals. Now THIS is what i call controversy.
April 16, 201015 yr Author Take a plane to Germany and take the ferry from Kiel to Oslo :) And what if, in a months time, the ash is still like it is today. I don't think you can currently fly out of England, so Josh wouldn't be able to take a plane to Germany IDEA! If A1 are still in Norway, we can enter them instead. Two of them are British ^_^

Two of them are British ^_^ Take the ferry from England to Norway? Ireland can take ferry to England and then ferry to Norway :P Denmark can take the ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo, Sweden can take bus.. Finland can take bus Iceland... I don't know if it goes ferry from there.. but they can take boat :)
April 16, 201015 yr Anna could probably walk it, and Hera would have to swim - no one will want to help out Iceland  I laughed out loud at that  It's not that simple for people to get to Norway by boat from the UK and Ireland. You have to go to Denmark first and then transfer there to another ferry or go by train through Sweden. There used to be a direct ferry from England to Norway but it was scrapped a couple of years ago as there wasn't enough demand :( I think Iceland would have to use a trawler

April 16, 201015 yr In the unlikely event that this Ash cloud is still paralysing the entire western coast of Europe in 6weeks time there is plenty of other methods of transportation. Europe is a tiny continent and it's easy to get about. Our act could get a ferry to Oslo, Denmark, Zeebrugge or Rotterdam. They could also chunnel it into France/Belguim. Push come to shove, it's not that far to drive. I went on holday with my parents [11years ago lol] and we drove from our house an hour north of edinburgh to hull, got the ferry to Rotterdam then drove through Holland and Germany and caught another ferry to the island the Copenhagen is on and drove to Copenhagen. It took two days. [we got there late at night] It's do able, i think the thing to be concerned about is the Broadcast. I was on Skype with my American friend last night and the connection was shocking, so much worse than the week before.
April 16, 201015 yr That ferry is back u know :P Since when, linkage please! I'd looked into getting a ferry from the UK to Norway once but saw that the route was withdrawn in 2006 :(
April 16, 201015 yr Yeah I know :( but I'm 90% sure I saw an article about taking the route back, but I don't remember where
April 16, 201015 yr Anyway, why not use the ferry that is just lying in my town waiting to be bought, and go from Ireland > UK > Belgium > Netherlands > Denmark and pick up the artists :P paint it and call it "Eurovision" or "Fairytale" :kink:
April 16, 201015 yr I've not heard of the ferry from UK to Norway being reinstated  Would be great if it has been though!
April 16, 201015 yr Author Excellent idea, Norway might get angry though if A1 finished above Didrik :kink: Would be their own fault for picking the wrong person :P
April 16, 201015 yr Would be their own fault for picking the wrong person :P I could never see A1 finishing better then Didrik...
