May 28, 201015 yr Romania are quite strong.... oh I read in the irish newspaper today that the juries last night based their votes on the dress rehearsal on Wedensday. Which means it's likely the juries would judge tomorrow night based on todays dress rehearsal (I think there are dress rehearsals today)

May 28, 201015 yr I thought they judge on the evening rehearsal tonight, no? :o Oh I thought it was on the one just gone? You could be right though!
May 28, 201015 yr It's all very confusing. :( Whatever one it is, I hope Niamh hits that high note. :heehee:
May 28, 201015 yr Yeah they've already cast their votes! :o Somebody told me earlier that the judges would be voting on the performances on the night just like the public would but I thought they'd make sure that they had time to discuss their votes and watch everything carefully. May 28, 201015 yr Final predictions; 1. Armenia 2. Azerbaijan 3. Belgium 4. Germany 5. Turkey 6. Romania 7. Serbia 8. Denmark 9. Greece 10. Ireland 11. Israel 12. Iceland ------------------------------ 13. Norway 14. Ukraine 15. Georgia 16. Bosnia-Herzegovina 17. Albania 18. Portugal 19. Spain 20. Russia 21. Moldova 22. Cyprus 23. France 24. Belarus 25. United Kingdom 12th and upwards could win it :o I fail to see how the UK will be spared the bottom of the table but Belarus is also screaming last. I could be underrating Moldova, Portugal and Georgia, not sure exactly how any of them might do but I can't imagine them contending for the win. The only one I'm certain will be top 5 is Armenia, but this doesn't mean I think they'll win... Basically I'm stumped haha, I don't see how Safura can win from 1st with a crap vocal, I don't see how Lena's divisive voice will overcome the odds, Belgium are too early and next door but one from Cyprus. If Turkey had a later draw I'd say that they would win. Armenia don't particularly feel like a winner, but seeing as it's the only certain top 5, it could 6 or 7 its way to victory, so I'm calling it I think. I think it will be a night of shocks tomorrow. I kind of agree with that, especially with the fact so many countries can win it. I think Georgia could be included in that list too though. I'm hoping for an Iceland win. I said Armenia were ones to watch months back, but that was based on the demo version. I think Apricot Stone is too weak to win and will be very disappointed if it does :( . May 28, 201015 yr It really just would be the lemon juice in the wound if Armenia won this year. Especially after last year's contest went so perfectly :(
May 28, 201015 yr This contest is starting to look like the beginning of the end of Eurovision tbh :(
May 28, 201015 yr Author This contest is starting to look like the beginning of the end of Eurovision tbh :( In what way? :o It's just a poor year, last year proved that their's still loads of life left in the contest songs and results wise  It was a tall order to ask for it to be perfect two years in a row and it clearly hasn't happened :( Armenia would be a decent-ish winner, it's my 6th favourite now. But it wouldn't be very well remembered (a la Believe), so I'm personally hoping something a bit more different wins tomorrow.
May 28, 201015 yr I fail to see what you mean? A lot of favourites missing out on the final to songs that blatantly don't deserve to be there and only qualified because of the country they represent. The quality of the entries overall this year has been very disappointing too and it doesn't help that a lot of the decent entries have lost a place in the final already. 4 withdrawls and more countries are looking likely to join that pile next year. When the UK enevitably places bottom 3 there'll be pressure on the BBC to withdraw, and if they do the contest will lose substantial financial backing when there's already huge pressure on funding. And to top that all, we could get a really dull winner! A glimmer of hope is that the ratings on BBC 3 last night were pretty huge and we had the biggest televoting numbers in the history of the contest, apparantly. I'm not saying it IS the beginning of the end, but at the moment it has that kind of underwhelming feel to it.
May 28, 201015 yr Author I like it more than I did if you'd asked me a few weeks ago, but it's nothing on 2009 in my opinion, which was as close to perfect as it's ever going to get, song/artist discovery wise, results wise, winner wise, knock on effect worldwide hit potential, incredible staging/presentation/interval/general spectacle by Russia, perfect draw, near perfect qualifiers and a load of other factors.

There's clearly no Fairytale, but there is potential for a winner that will be talked about and have the possibility of becoming (an even bigger than it already is) international chart hit - and that's Satellite. It's just a shame that Lena's so inconsistent vocally :( I can't see Drip Drop or Apricot Stone, and certainly not Opa or We Could Be The Same, being particularly big hits around Europe.

I agree with you that it is a poor year and we do get those, but it's just the way I'm feeling about the contest at the moment, for the reasons I outlined above. Armenia is shockingly in my top 5 of the final iirc, but was outside my top 10 of all 39 entries. Losing Croatia, Sweden & Malta to Ukraine, Israel/Turkey and Russia was a massive blow for the contest's reputation I feel based on the fact last year all the rubbish was weeded out in the semis. It looked like the contest was well on the road to recovery and now it just seems slightly farcical again :(
May 28, 201015 yr I don't think this year is too bad actually, though its only really my 2nd contest, so I can't really judge. I think I prefer it to last year, as it's quite open as opposed to the foregone conclusion last year. Anyway, on topic, I think you're pretty much right with your predictions, though I think Georgia may do better.
May 28, 201015 yr United Kingdom will NOT withdraw anytime soon. I assure you of that. Er, based on what? If we do badly tomorrow we'll get the same old chorus of 'why do we fund this political crap', and a government keen on making high-profile cuts would gladly take the scythe to the BBC's budget, even if it IS a complete pittance for Eurovision.
