One of my fave when I was 16-17 years old. Maybe I should be ashamed but I loved happy Hardcory/Rave/Techno at that time. In fact I bought her album Herzfrequenz.

I don't know how many of you know her, she was rather famous in the German speaking countries and eastern Europe, but surely not in the UK.

This is her first hit in Germany: Herz An Herz

it also had an English version, Heart

Blumchen!!!

I discovered Blumchen in 1996 when I was obsessed (yes, I really was  ) a programme called BRAVO TV on RTL II. Even though I didn't understand much German, I still enjoyed watching the programme on Sunday afternoons. :D

'Herz On Herz' is fantastic. If I'd been doing a personal chart back in 1996, I reckon 'Herz On Herz' would've probably hit no. 1 for me. I didn't particularly like the English language version. I'd got used to the German language version and thought the harmonies in 'Heart To Heart' were a bit...odd.

Out of interest, why has 'Boomerang' re-entered the German singles chart this week at no. 7? :o

I agree Herz An Herz's English version is not really good.

There was a campaign to block the reality show 'Deutschland Sucht den Superstar's winner, Mehrzad Marashi to get to number 1. There were more campaigns, and all failed. One of them was Blümchen's Boomerang.

I used to love Blumchen, but could never find her CDs here. My favourite song is Nur Getraumt, though I did find out a few years agao it was a Nena cover :o

Yes it is :D

And she also covered a Queen song, Bicycle Race :D

OMG I remember that :o I *THINK* it was her only UK single, of course it flopped hard :kink:

Actually does here accent remind anyone of Lena Meyer-Landrut on this song?

:o where charted it?

I think it may have made the dance charts here, but I know it was her only Blossom release to get a proper release throughout Europe.

'Bicycle Race' was released in the UK in 1997, and charted at an amazing #181  Maybe if the video had featured cameos from Brian May and Roger Taylor dressed as ravers and waving glowsticks around, it would have been a bigger hit...

Spooky timing this thread - after hearing about 'Boomerang' recharting in Germany, I checked her music out and it's absolutely awesome. The UK never really got into the whole happy hardcore pop that was so huge in Germany - we came close in early 1996, with top 20 hits from Scooter, QFX and Technohead ('I Wanna Be A Hippy' getting to #6!) but that's as far as we got in terms of mainstream chart success.

She could have been really huge here had they marketed her music more - been listening to her back catalogue on Spotify and it's all incredibly cheesy but really happy and uplifting songs!

Listen to 'Nur Getraumt' by Blumchen. Then listen to 'Come With Me' by Special D. Such a blatant rip off if ever I heard one.

Thanks for the info Billy, where did you find the top 200 data? I agree, for a brief time in the 90s the happy hardcore scene was amazing, and it was huge in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire where I grew up. My favourite tracks were Nakatomi - Children Of The Night (Live your life like a rave machine :bounce:) :

and Mark'Oh - Tears Don't Lie (sampling When A Child Is Born...)

Actually Mr Oh was a bit of a cutie :kink:

What's surprised me the most about 'Boomerang' is that it's achieved a new peak in Germany this week. It just fell short of the top 10 when it was originally released in 1996. I wonder what Blumchen's sales were last week - then compare those sales with what 'Boomerang' sold the week it peaked at #11 in Germany. Were sales in Germany much stronger in the mid 90s like they were in the UK?

I think sales were much much better in the 90s than now.

Yesterday when I was cycling through the city, I was listening to Blümchen over and over again on my iPod

I've been a huge Bluemchen fan since around the time she retired and in the time of Napster/KaZaa. I did buy her best of CD which had a lot of cool remixes although my favorite were the Rote Rosen and P-Roh edits. You all can see the history of the download action on this blog: www.jasminwagnerworld.com

It was a fun month but it's over now. she may come back as Bluemchen because of this attention though. Has to do with Edel renewing her contract. She did have a lot of flops toward the end but so does Mariah. LOL
