:heehee: you'd think that would be the case but Alors On Danse is really quite entrancing, it's so dry, yet works really well - here is the European chart stats for it thus far;

Austria #1

Belgium Flanders # 1

Belgium Wallonia #1

Canada #63

Czech Republic #10

Denmark #1

Netherlands #1

European Hot 100 Singles #1

Finland #19

France #1

Germany #1

Italy #1

Russia #9

Slovakia #1

Sweden #19

Switzerland #1

and a recent Guardian article regarding the song: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/...euro-pop-anthem

If record companies in the UK do decide to *gasp* play a French language track on UK radio (Radio 1 controllers shudder at the thought that they might have to do this no doubt), then I can't see it failing to go at least top ten here. Really really really really really really good song (in my opinion)

For the record, it's Russian Airplay Chart, we have no official charts etc which is a huge pity :( But i'm quite surprised it is as low as #9! Dan Balan SMASHES everything right here at the moment and considering Alors On Danse >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Chica Bomb it's quite confusing :(

Wow, is Radio 1 really that protective about not letting foreign songs in? Have any songs been added despite the language at all? :o

I don't expect Alors On Danse to do that well. :heehee: The main reason why I send foreign songs is to try to persuade others to do so more frequently. I think that a lot of the foreign songs in this contest would have done better if they were in English, which is a shame, and I hope that changes. This is just an observation, however. :P

I can't think of any. I don't know if O-Zone's Dragostea Din Tei was ever palylisted actually...

the last French language top ten hit here was Moi Lolita by Alizee in 2002 and I'm pretty sure that was a hit thanks to TV music channels. I'm almost certain it was never on the Radio 1 playlist.

People can complain and say 'it's not Radio 1's fault etc...' but I strongly believe (not wishing to sound like a David Cameron speech here :drama:) that if they a-listed a few of the popular European foreign language songs, that they could be hits here. It's not the public that aren't open to them, it's the media for not supporting or promoting them. The fact that to my knowledge, they haven't playlisted a single foreign song in this entire millennium, is an absolute travesty, and for a station that's supposed to support musical diversity, it would be nice to see one every now and then. I don't think their listeners would be as put off as they might think...

This sounds really like a travesty! Aren't people hmmm tired of the same things? :(

USA doesn't seem to be caring much about non-english language songs either! :o

Foreign language songs rarely make the Hot 100, but they get airplay on foreign langauge stations, American radio is very segregated.

I 100% agree though Rich :(

On a nu trend, I see only the following tracks as having a chance of going top ten:

2. Angelicland // Samantha - U-Turn

4. Espen // Stromae - Alors On Danse

6. Quotosibb // Kaskade; Dragonette - Fire In Your New Shoes

7. FSR Rontvia // Sheelah - Psycho

8. Xanaga // N Dubz; Bodyrox - We Dance On

12. Ben's Sanctuary // Jasper Forks - River Flows In You

13. Fervorosia // Alien Beat Club - Oxygen

15. Yuxhaaq // Starshell - SuperLuva

19. Liechenstaan // Dolly Rockers - Automatic Girl

20. Kopečka // Girlicious - Maniac

21. Nonsuch // Katie Melua - The Flood

23. Egabbac // Jónsi - Animal Arithmetic

25. United States of Jack // Kat DeLuna; Akon - Push Push

26. Numayania // Jenny Berggren - Here I Am

31. B.a.N.G // Kelis - Home

32. Torchwood // Le Kid - Escape

33. Ashton // Richard Vission, Static Avenger & Luciana - I Like That

35. Bignia-Zaragovina // B.o.B.; Hayley Williams - Airplanes

39. Land of Jack // Jenni Vartiainen - En Haluu Kuolla Tänä Yönä

43. Jamora // The Pretty Reckless - Make Me Wanna Die

46. Kingdom of Shadow // The Good Natured - Fortune Teller

47. Tinnmark // Maria Haukaas Storeng; Måns Zelmerlöw - Precious To Me

48. UnoShake // Leona Lewis - Scene Of The Crime

Not a fan of some of these tracks at all, and had to ditch some fantastic tracks, but I don't see more than one track from outside this list shocking and going top ten. Italicised tracks are ones I'm on the fence on being able to go top ten.

Not sure actually, surely they can't have? Although that had English verses for its UK release...

What, it goes top ten over your dead body?

Oh :drama: I thought you were predicting me 47th

Ha, I'm not too sure either! It's the only foreign-esque I could think of. :(

EDIT: OH, Sigur Ros? I think 'Hoppípolla' was playlisted at some point? I may be wrong.

It was on Radio 2. Not sure about Radio 1, they played it but not sure if it was on the playlist.

That's true actually. I guess it's just the foreign language European dance/pop hits they choose to ignore.

:o

If Radio 1 didn't play-list O-Zone, then that is a disgrace. That must've been my favourite song of whichever year it was released in

2004? Surely not ahead of some of the pop classics of that year?

I'm willing to stand up, be counted and say that Dragostea Din Tei was also my favourite song of 2004  See my country name :kink:

Only me and Phil actually got that reference didn't we? Considering some of the bizarre pronunciations people were coming out with recently...
