I saw that on wikipedia, but there isn't a source to back it up. At the moment, I'm only trusting info on the Our Sound website, facebook & twitter.

Song submission for Australia is starting :cheer:

SBS will broadcast the contest to Australia, but from the Our Sound facebook page, it sounds as if SBS are just broadcasting and that the selection is being run by Our Sound themselves :(

I think it might be that way for all countries. The song has to be chosen by Our Sound, or at least accepted by them, I'm pretty sure that EBU does the same, but that this is more transparent. I'm maybe going to get my BF to enter this, since he grew up in Australia and is a naturalised citizen. I've read the rules now, but some of it is like :

If you choose to perform in a language other than English, you must also provide an accurate translation of the lyrics into English – and will need to certify its accuracy in a Statutory Declaration signed by a Justice of the Peace.

WTF? :o Looks like my epic J-pop tribute will have to wait til 2011 then.

The rules are a bit crap. Like age being 18, whereas it's 16 for ESC. And they had to be 18 on or before 1st May 2010? WTF? The contest isn't until the end of November. And the amount of people allowed on stage is only 5.

But Our Sound kind of choosing the entries for the countries partly? Very silly. Eurovision is successful the way it is, why change it so much? I think national selections should be left completely to the host broadcaster, and that they can send anything they want that fits the rules (3mins, no swearing/politics/racism, completely new songs [no plagiarism]).

And I have no idea what that Justice of the Peace thing means

Yeah I agree, that's random, but it used to be 18 in ESC. You have to understand that this is the first year, they're just getting a feeling of things. And 5 is fair enough, the stage might not be so big as regular Eurovision. PLus it's quite possible 90% of the viewers will never have seen Eurovision. I guess you're right that it's silly, but I think it's part of the licence agreement, that they can't make it too much like Eurovision. Does the 3 minute rule apply here? It's going to be a problem for all the indian songs that are usually 7 minutes long with two dance breaks

And me neither :nocheer:

I get bored with the 7 minute long Indian songs  At least Eurovision songs are forced to get straight to the point :P

The "About Our Sound" page says that "The voting system addresses the strong patriot feelings in Asian countries by allowing two votes, one of which may be for their own country.", which is completely stupid. Won't each country just give themselves 12pts?
