I was pleasantly surprised by this. Up till now The National had never really clicked with me but this is a very good album indeed and now means I have to go and reinvestigate their other albums.

I'd been aware of them before but never really sought to seek them out, but I heard them perform Bloodbuzz Ohio on Later With Jools and it was fantastic. How many albums have they released before this?

This is their third high profile album, following critically acclaimed Alligator and Boxer but Wikipedia says it's their fifth overall. Never heard anything about the first two.

High Violet has maybe the best songs I've heard this year. Great collection of songs.. However it's a bit too perfect...before the last couple of tracks I started to wait for something surprising to come and it never did. But I love this album and the arrangements.

 

My favourites are Anyone's Ghost, Bloodbuzz Ohio and Lemon World.

My big favourite here is "Sorrow".

 

If you like High Violet you should check Boxer, I find it more cohesive and mindblowing. "Fake Empire" is still my favourite song ever.

Or, if you are in a Rock/Indie party mood I recommend Alligator. There's punching and shouting lines and riffs all over the place, next to that intimate tone The National only can.

Their two EPs, Cherry Tree EP and The Virginia EP are also very good.

I love this album so much. It's one of two truly fantastic albums released this year for me, the other being LCD Soundsystem. :wub:

I'll appreciate this album better in the winter. Fantastic though.

OMG - I'm getting addicted to Conversion 16 and Runaway. I cried on Sunday when I listened to Runaway.

Conversation 16 is incredible.

I'm at that stage where I get a little upset when listening to it.

I got Boxer during the week. Slow Show is great. There's a wonderful change in the second half of it.
