May 28, 201015 yr The Herd track is horrible while Love Affair isn't bad despite having a Steve Marriott soundalike as a singer (BTW this is a good thing!)
May 29, 201015 yr Author The Herd track is horrible while Love Affair isn't bad despite having a Steve Marriott soundalike as a singer (BTW this is a good thing!) you surprise me... i dont think 'idwoltd' is 'horrible'... just a good upbeat contemporary pop song. i guess after a further 40 years of development it might sound rather ... primitive to a first time listening. same really for 'rainbow valley', you dont get tracks with 'big' orchestration in them nowdays.. but i grew up with these, so nostalgia levels are high in my ratings for these tracks, and im used to their 'old' sound.
May 29, 201015 yr Nothing wrong with big orchestration, I like plenty of tracks that use it a lot. And it's not because of the production/old sound, I like so many records from the same period. But these tracks are second rate IMHO and surely are barely remembered now for a reason.
May 30, 201015 yr Author But these tracks are second rate IMHO and surely are barely remembered now for a reason. .... and what reason would that be?... they are readily identified by most in the pop music quizes i attend so infering they are 'second rate therefore forgettable' is nonsense. plus there are many tracks that werent big hits that are remembered from that period.
May 30, 201015 yr .... and what reason would that be?... they are readily identified by most in the pop music quizes i attend so infering they are 'second rate therefore forgettable' is nonsense. plus there are many tracks that werent big hits that are remembered from that period. Erm... because they weren't much cop IN MY OPINION. You obviously regard them differently. Neither of them can be classed as 60s pop classics. They are second rate in comparison to other music that was being produced at the time. And since when does big hit = good music. That rule has never applied in any time period. And just because they are remembered by pop quiz afficionados of a certain age does not mean they are well remembered generally. I do know From The Underworld by the Herd and Everlasting Love by Love Affair and I'm not particularly fond of either. Plus it's MY opinion.
