Posted May 28, 201015 yr Just had this google alert...... Darius ready for Charming battle Darius has been signed up for the King’s Theatre panto Brian Beacom 28 May 2010 Singing stars Darius Campbell and John Barrowman will battle it out to attract audiences at this year’s Glasgow pantomimes. It was revealed today that Darius, who recently won the TV show Pop Star To Opera Star, will appear at the King’s Theatre to star as Prince Charming in Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. A spokesman for the King’s said: “It is a huge coup for us.” At the same time John Barrowman will be appearing in the title role of Aladdin at the SECC. Darius, 30, who dropped his Danesh surname earlier this year, said: “This year has taken me from London to Paris and Cape Town. It will be great to end the year in Glasgow.” Since being crowned the winner of ITV1’s Pop Star To Opera Star, Darius has headlined in his debut opera. He is the youngest performer to play the bullfighting Escamillo in Carmen at the O2 in London. The signing of Darius to the King’s highlights the attempts made this year by panto producers to attract the lion’s share of audiences. As well as Torchwood star Barrowman appearing at the SECC with The Krankies, the Pavilion has already secured the services of comedian Jim Davidson and interior designers and television presenters Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan for its Robin Hood panto. sorry forgot the link: http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/darius-...attle-1.1031075 Edited May 28, 201015 yr by SpamFritter
May 28, 201015 yr Author Darius hasn't confirmed it as yet. If it's what he wants to do..... I do hope there's a CD of his own music soon.
May 28, 201015 yr Well, GWTW, Hotel Babylon, pstos, classical concerts, pop and now pantomime - you can't say he's not prepared to give most things a go.
May 28, 201015 yr mm, I saw Brian connelly as Buttons in cinderella at the swan theatre in wycombe, he was very funny tbh. the prince well...it was played by someone or other unknown as it wasnt a huge part. not a lot of scope in that role lol shane richie played aladin last year at the Swan, with his two sons as his brothers that was great fun and again very funny, some tall asian looking chap who used to be in eastenders played the baddie and tbh I thought Darius would have been great in that role!! very sexy he was but that versus Barrowman and the Krankies..no contest if I was in glasgow, Prince charming wins - obviously this will pay well, but panto?? the jibes will flow - not for Barrowman(he who can do no wrong) ..but jedwood are doing one as well LOL then again garath did cinderella ..and he is now in les mis..so... May 28, 201015 yr Gareth was really sensible doing pantomime as it showed all concerned that he could do and do well a stage show. He also had Louise Dearman with him who is one of the best leading ladies in theatre. It is just another form of musical theatre.
May 28, 201015 yr God I hope this doesn't happen :( Please let him take something other than this
May 28, 201015 yr it will only be a guest appearance, surely prince charming in snow white is a small role, on and off? less even than the one in cinderella - does he even speak? cant recall its been years since I saw a snow white panto
May 28, 201015 yr God I hope this doesn't happen :( Please let him take something other than this  I totally agree. Panto is pretty desperate.
May 28, 201015 yr I just can't understand what benefit this would be to D's career(other than earning a few quid) and can see there will be some detrimental thoughts and probably comments from the press/public etc! I could understand him doing Carmen, another string to the bow and all that, but this???
May 28, 201015 yr It allows him to be home for Christmas, earns him money and it's another thing he hasn't done yet. As I said before, if someone like Louise Dearman does panto then it's an acceptable form of musical theatre.
May 29, 201015 yr Sir Ian Mclellan played widow twankie in alladin in 2004, 2005. He has numerous acting awards, maybe its part of becoming a well rounded performer, to do lots of various things. Darius must have his reasons as its a long time ahead and he would expect other things to come up yet he has chosen this. It is not a long run .
May 29, 201015 yr And the tickets are selling like hot cakes. I wish I could go. He'll make a fine Prince Charming - and he'll be singing. The part is certainly not a cameo and I think that, if it wasn't stated to be a pantomime, most would be rushing to see it. Snow White will have a great Prince Charming to fall for before the Wicked Step mother tries to kill her. Edited May 29, 201015 yr by megham
May 29, 201015 yr I dont really like Pantomines but i would love to see Darius in this. :D .........so wish i lived nearer to Glasgow! :( He will be Fantastic in this......and of course the most Gorgeous panto Prince ever!! ............he is just so Talented and can anything he wants so naturaly and with so much passion! :D
May 29, 201015 yr It allows him to be home for Christmas, earns him money and it's another thing he hasn't done yet. As I said before, if someone like Louise Dearman does panto then it's an acceptable form of musical theatre. What a 'fun' way to wind down what I am sure is going to continue to be a very busy year for Darius! He will be able to spend the Xmas period with his family and friends whilst earning some money and keeping his local fans (and maybe long distance fans!lol!) happy and amused. Lots of 'stars' appear in pantomime.... I'm just so 'old' now that I cannot even remember the story of Snow White but I would like to think that the production would certainly make the most of Prince Charming I've never been to Glasgow but now I'm thinking a long weekend may be in order.... :D Just one question Darius.... will the release of your album be before or after pantomime season???!!! Julie
May 29, 201015 yr I've looked into it and there's no way I could get to Glasgow and back in a day. I hope people who do get loads of photos.
May 29, 201015 yr Thanks Sharon. I just can't not be here to get Mum up and put her to bed. I know you understand as you had all this with your Mum.
