Just heard that Glasgow airport was closed for a while today to clear the runway. I think flights are restarting round about now.

The snow has stopped falling but the low temperatures go on and ice will be a major problem.

I so wish I could offer you more hope, Meg. The situation is totally unpredictable here. The centre of the city may well be much better. I just don't know.

The snow band has drifted South and almost left Scotland, but there's still a lot of snow and ice on the ground.

Overnight temperature is to be -8 degrees and freezing fog is forecast for tomorrow. Visibility will be initially at least be very poor.

Not very cheerful then. It's a shame . I was sad to miss it in the beginning but thought there was no chance and so accepted it but now I feel cheated - which shows how childish I can be.

Just an update to tonight's panto and the weather/roads in Glasgow. I probably rather stupidly went to the pantomime tonight. There has been next to no public transport in Glasgow since before lunchtime with the roads gridlocked all day and people trying to get home (some of them never making work in the first place). We had heavy snow from 8.30 this morning till lunchtime and for some reason we seemed to be totally unprepared for it. The main roads don't appear to have been gritted last night and were fine until the snow this morning which caused havoc. I decided the easiest thing to do was to stay in work and go straight to the theatre. My thinking was once the roads eventually cleared, the gritters would be out and by the time I was going home, the roads would be fine.....how wrong I was! Came out of the theatre to freezing fog, still ungritted roads and -3 temperatures, which went down to -5 by the time I got home. My god daughter who was originally going, couldn't get into town, so I dragged (not unwillingly) my friend along who was still in town. As I was driving home at 15 miles an hour, she said it was probably one of the stupidest things we had ever done (and we've done many).

Anyway, not surprisingly the theatre was pretty empty and we were told to sit more or less where we wanted. In the second half more people came down to the front stalls which helped greatly. I have to say that one thing a panto really needs is a big audience, so I felt a bit sorry for the cast, though the people there did their best to make as much noise as possible and participate (especially as the theatre wasn't warm enough). I will definitely need to go back to get the full flavour with a full audience. (Not that I really need an excuse)

Darius looked and sounded fabulous, though he does have to watch that kilt when he's sitting down lol. The songs chosen really suited him and he was really great at 'I can't fight this feeling anymore'. The rest of the cast were really good too, particularly as Gerard Kelly is really difficult to replace. It is really funny, and although the humour and lingo are very local, which might cause some difficulty for visitors, I don't think it would spoil it for anyone. At the end they did thank everyone for making the effort to come along to the show, and I think a good few of the cast would have to stay in hotels in town, rather than attempting to go home, to ensure they make it back for tomorrow.

Hopefully anyone coming to Glasgow over the next few days will get here okay and the roads and public transport will get back to normal sometime tomorrow.

I know I don't post much but thought I'd give you an update on tonight's show and the weather situation in Glasgow at the moment.

I must be childish too then, because I feel equally as cheated :( I really hope you're able to make it Meg

Thanks, cherri, I'm glad you got home safely. I feel so sorry for all the people who didn't make the panto. From your report, I'd probably have had problems with the accent. I amused my daughter by needing translations sometimes. She ended up translating some of her locals to me and then translating me to her locals. I think it takes time to adjust to different accents - I do love to hear different accents though - just useless.

And, thanks, Paul - at least I have someone to be childish with.

So hope that things turn out ok and you can still go Meg...i'm keeping everything crossed for you!! *hugs* :)

Sorry the snow caused you to miss seeing the panto, BP. What a disappointment.

Hope Meg and the others make it.

I like the white shirt and waistcoat better than the black shirt. Thanks BT.

Prince charming

Singer Darius Campbell is the handsome hunk prince at the King’s panto in Glasgow this year. As he turned to the audience and told them he would search all over the world for his missing Snow White, a woman in the circle on Monday couldn’t contain herself, and shouted out: “I’m up here!”
