Posted May 28, 201015 yr You may have heard him saying he couldn't remember 'Drip Drop' last night after about ten minutes (I personally would've thought all singers and songwriters would have listened to what they were up against weeks before, but hey ho), well here he is at it again. Note how much was spent on our entry. -_- Songwriter for the United Kingdom's Eurovision Song Contest entry, Pete Waterman spoke out on the Ken Bruce radio show this morning about voting before the songs are performed and went on record to say he can't see why Azerbaijan is the favourite. During the broadcast, Ken Bruce explained that the televoting window increase would help smaller countries that rely on the revenue from calls. Mr. Waterman however was adamant that "you can't really call it a song competition if you haven't heard the songs when you vote". When asked about his view of the competing songs, Mr. Waterman said: "To be honest, I came last night and saw 12 songs...Josh stands as much chance as anybody. I heard the favourite that everyone's talking about [Azerbaijan], and I'm sorry but if that's the favourite then we have a fighting chance. If that's the best they can do then erm... yeah! Do you know they've spent a million dollars? It's not about spending money. We spent £100". The interview took place during a special Ken Bruce morning show for BBC Radio 2. You can listen to the show here, including interviews with British Eurovision Song Contest representative Josh, Pete Waterman and many more. They also took a look back at some of the great Eurovision songs from the past and a review of this year's entries. £100? Is he actually serious?!
May 28, 201015 yr "If that's the best they can do then erm... yeah!" And he honestly think That Sounds Good To Me is the best he can do? :smoke:
May 28, 201015 yr Author "If that's the best they can do then erm... yeah!" And he honestly think That Sounds Good To Me is the best he can do? :smoke: It probably is the best he can do tbh. :( Is it any wonder the BBC ditch Katie Melua and an actual decent song which would probably cost a few thousand when "famous songwriter and producer" Pete Waterman will offer to do it for £100?! :manson:
May 28, 201015 yr Next year, I want to see the head of the BBC on his knees in front of Katie Melua, begging her to represent the UK in 2011, and saying that the entire staff at the BBC are sorry for turning her away this year. Or at least change the format, and put more effort in. If the BBC responded to my complaint when I complained about the re-scheduling of "Waterloo Road" a few weeks ago, I wonder if they'd respond if I complain about their treatment of Eurovision.

May 28, 201015 yr £100  You can definitely hear it can't you - cheap and tacky to the max! I do however agree with him (:drama:) about the voting thing, ok fine if it's proven already in Norway that it's not a problem, but what is actually the point other than increased revenue from voting for the TV companies? I wouldn't dream of voting before seeing the performances - had this option been available in 2008 I would have voted for Sweden and not Norway, how was I to know Maria was going to pull the closing performance of a lifetime out of the bag to make me switch my vote right at the last minute! You can't possibly know if it hasn't happened yet

They rejected Katie Melua? THE Katie Melua!? :o Right that's it! I need to buy a ticket to the uk right now, we'll make a thing of it....big mob......pitchforks....it'll be fun! :arrr:

May 28, 201015 yr Yeah...she offered her latest single 'The Flood' apparently. :arrr: Whoever picked Josh over The flood belongs in a mental hospital....no questions asked just toss them in. However....it's probably better that she didn't get through cause now The Flood will get alot more success (longer lasting anyway) then it would in eurovision....

I need to buy a ticket to the uk right now, we'll make a thing of it....big mob......pitchforks....it'll be fun! :arrr: Yep it is true, as confirmed last week by a twittering Graham Norton. After weeks earlier Katie Melua mentioned on Terry Wogan's Sunday Radio 2 show that she had offered to enter the UK at Eurovision. Hence why she (apparently) deliberately performed the "Eurovision edit" (removing a minute & a verse) of The Flood on the Graham Norton chatshow. Let's face facts only a complete moron (or a corporation who thinks its a good idea to close its best radio station BBC Radio 6Music, and thinks Reggie Yates is doing a good job with the Radio 1 Chart show) could make such an idiotic decision to enter a dated nondescript Pete Waterman song over this co-penned Guy Chambers; produced by William Orbit track): XjuPe4xc2vY
May 28, 201015 yr That will surely go down in history as the biggest UK missed opportunity ever, although some would argue that that was Cyndi losing out to Scooch in 2007... We could have had two absolutely brilliant entries in a row! I reckon it could well have followed Jade into the top 5 to be honest...
May 28, 201015 yr I think I can begin to understand why established artists can't be bothered going forward to eurovision now, they'd probably get pushed aside for some nobody with a cheap song.
May 28, 201015 yr That's it, I'm pretending that Josh doesn't exist now, and that The Flood our Eurovision entry :arr:
May 28, 201015 yr Pete Waterman lives near me. I see him in Tesco on a regular occasion. Next time I see him, I may well quote him on this after Safura storms to victory and Josh finishes on nil points.
May 28, 201015 yr :o Heard about Katie Melua before, but only just heard the song now. How the hell could anyone think that an out of date song by Pete Waterman would be better than that! What were the BBC (I presume it was them) thinking?!

Yes, but remember John Barrowman;'s comments on the night in 2007 Song For Europe when he adviced the public that Scooch's track would do better in the ESC than Cyndi's. (Barrowman .... shakes fist!) ... And how did Scooch's entry do in the real thing; and how did Cyndi's entry do in the runners up contest. In short the BBC and the UK General public have an outdated concept of what the ESC is about today. Hence I would imagine most of the UK general public would have thought that (appalling) The Netherlands entry this year, that failed to qualify for the Final would be the perfect ESC entry.
May 28, 201015 yr What were the BBC (I presume it was them) thinking?! They were thinking: "......................................" Basically ^_^ Edited May 28, 201015 yr by Sabrewulf
