Posted May 30, 201015 yr I was thinking how annoyed I was when Portugal gave 12pts to Spain, hasn't happened in recent years, but I'm sure our juries loved it, plus performing twice gave them extra boost. But still, it's annoying, especially when the song is terrible, I mean we gave Chiki Chiki 12pts that year. Then there are 3 others that are 12pts contender - Ukraine, Romania and Moldova, all due to diaspora. Ukraine got 12pts 3 years in a row, until the rule change last year. Other than that, it seems impossible for other countries to get our top marks. I notice this happens with other countries in relation to Russia, or Greece, or Turkey always getting 12pts. What do you think? How can this be turned around?
May 30, 201015 yr Greece <-> Cyprus, obv. Russia seem to award their 12 inevitably to Armenia recently...apart from Norway last year, obv Belarus -> Russia
May 30, 201015 yr Turkey -> Azerbaijan Cyprus -> Greece Happens even with the juries. I would've said Greece -> Cyprus, but Cyprus aren't always in the final. Then there always seem to be at least one USSR country giving 12pts to Russia
May 30, 201015 yr Author I'm sure this happens in the ex-Yugoslav countries too, though I'm not sure which ones seem to exchange 12pts
May 30, 201015 yr due to large number of albanians living in Macedonia, Albania is wining our televote every year since they debuted in 2004. here's a list of countries that Macedonia gave their 12 points to: 1998 - Croatia 2000 - Romania 2002 - Romania 2004 - Albania 2005 - Albania 2006 - Bosnia & Herzegovina 2007 - Serbia 2008 - Albania 2009 - Turkey 2010 - Albania so Albania got our 12pts 4/10 times. May 30, 201015 yr I'm so tired of UK giving 12 and 10 to Greece and Turkey, almost without exception. I thought the juries would dampen this effect down a bit but they seem as pro these countries as our televoters/diaspora are :drama: Fair enough at the 10 for Turkey this year but did Opa really warrant our 12? The worst is when we gave Shake It Up Shekerim 12 points in 2007 :drama:

The New York Times one is pretty outdated, especially since the reintroduction of juries. It may seem to indicate that neighbourly voting won it for Serbia, but what it doesn't mention is that every country in Europe, with the exception of the UK and Ireland, voted for Serbia...
May 30, 201015 yr but did Opa really warrant our 12? NO. I'd say it was the worst song in the contest this year.
May 30, 201015 yr Author due to large number of albanians living in Macedonia, Albania is wining our televote every year since they debuted in 2004. here's a list of countries that Macedonia gave their 12 points to: 1998 - Croatia 2000 - Romania 2002 - Romania 2004 - Albania 2005 - Albania 2006 - Bosnia & Herzegovina 2007 - Serbia 2008 - Albania 2009 - Turkey 2010 - Albania so Albania got our 12pts 5/10 times. Yeah, a very noticeable trend with Albania there. The last contests in Portugal 2001 France 2003 Spain 2004 Spain 2005 Romania 2006 Ukraine (0 to Spain) 2007 Ukraine 2008 Ukraine 2009 Moldova 2010 Spain not since 2001 has a different country won. Moldova and Romania only won once, but they're always getting 8 or 10 points otherwise, which is why I mentioned them.
May 30, 201015 yr Cyprus and Greece are the worst culprits every single year, without fail providing both have qualified they give each 12 points, in the days before semi finals etc when cyprus and greece were always in the final they also gave each other 12 points its boring at this stage.
May 31, 201015 yr Neighbouring countries generally do tend to give each other more points, but it's not just the countries mentioned. For example, this year Ireland gave us the most points we received, and likewise, we gave them the highest points they got. Maybe it's not quite as extreme, but it still illustrates this trend in voting to some degree.
