Can't believe Clint is 80 today :o Happy Birthday to one of the all time greatest Hollywood icons - he has been instrumental in changing the Western genre (and making it a hell of alot more interesting, artistic and watchable imo). As well as having two of the all time best actor/director partnerships with both Sergio Leone and Don Siege he has lproven himself to be a truly brilliant director over the years with a hugely versatile body of work - arguably the greatest actor turned director of in US film history, and he seems to be getting even better unlike most directors as they age.

So what is everyone favourite Clint films? With such a huge number of classics to his name it's pretty bloody difficult but here is my top 10, including films he directed and didnt star in. :D

1. Unforgiven

2. The Outlaw Josey Wales

3. Dirty Harry

4. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

5. In The Line Of Fire

6. For a Few Dollars More

7. Mystic River

8. Letters From Iwo Jima

9. Magnum Force

10. Escape From Alcatraz

Love loads of others as well including Play Misty For Me, Pale Rider, For A Few Dollars More, Gran Torino, Sudden Impact, Heartbreak Ridge, Bird, A Perfect World and Million Dollar Baby. The man is quite simply a legend. :D

While that may be true to a degree, he learned a lot of tricks from Sergio Leone which helped define his own style as a director, particularly with regards to his westerns (Unforgiven is probably the best film Leone never made in a lot of ways...LOL), I'd also say his style was influenced by Don Siegel as well (who worked with Eastwood n no less than four films....).

But, regardless, happy birthday Clint...

Great innit... Umpteen pages of "discussion" about the crappy "Twilight" films, and only TWO posts for a total legend like Clint.... God, this Forum's a bit messed up..... -_-

I agree - I've only spotted this thread as I've been away for a while or I would have responded earlier. I became a massive fan of Eastwood in the early 70's - me and my best mate had tee-shirts printed up with Eastwood on them! Everyone else in the school thought it weird two teenagers fancying a bloke who was knocking on 40 at the time. It did help that some of his films at the time were bloody brilliant - I remember going to see Magnum Force and Dirty Harry (on as a double bill in the mid 70's - when you got VFM at the cinema) about 10 times! One of my favourite lines from a film is from Magnum Force ... 'No .... Never had a lesson' (when he'd bluffed his way onto a hi-jacked plane). I actually started to go off his films in the 80's though ... and the increasing presence of the awful actress that is Sondra Locke became a burden I just couldn't stand.

Anyway ... my favourites:

The Beguiled

Joe Kidd

For a Few Dollars More (IMO the best of the Dollar trilogy)

Dirty Harry

Kelly's Heroes

Where Eagles Dare

Magnum Force

Play Misty For Me

Thunderbolt & Lightfoot

Mystic River

Norma

I've only ever seen Play Misty For Me and Heartbreak Ridge :o Brilliant in both though.
I have to say, Im disappointed that noone has added Gran Torino to their list. I thought it was absolutely amazing. I was so happy when my cousins got me the DVD for my birthday.
