There'll be a track written by Robbie & Gary and featuring both on Rob's upcoming Greatest Hits album in October.

Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow reunite on record

Shame, to be included on Williams's forthcoming greatest hits album, is the first time the pair have appeared on record together since Robbie left Take That in 1995

Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow have reunited on record, the first time the pair have collaborated for 15 years. The former bandmates have written and recorded a track called Shame for Williams's forthcoming greatest hits collection.

The track was announced shortly after Williams, 36, and Barlow, 39, joined forces for a charity football match in aid of Unicef. The pair notoriously fell out when Williams left Take That in 1995 at the height of the band's fame, but have since reconciled.

Williams went on to enjoy huge success as a solo artist after parting ways with Take That, enjoying seven No 1 albums over a decade. However, he appeared to tire of the limelight and disappeared from public view following the release of 2006's Rudebox. That same year, Take That enjoyed a successful reunion and have since released two chart-topping albums as a quartet. Rumours that Williams would be rejoining his former band have surfaced numerous times since Take That reformed.

Details of the new track are limited, but Williams's greatest hits album will be out on 11 October. "It's incredible to listen to the album and realise that it's already been 20 years of making music and playing gigs," said Williams. "It's not only a celebration of my past but also a bridge to the future. The fact that part of the future includes a name from my past makes it all the more poignant for me."

Yep! Looks like they don't need the other three! For now!

There's a few songs on there I like - She's The One is a decent cover, Rock DJ is perhaps Rob's best (for me) and Lovelight and She's Madonna are pretty good. Shame about the awful Somethin' Stupid and Angels - but I suppose you can't have everything. I'm dreading hearing this Shame track (I had hoped it would just stay as a track but apparently they're releasing it as a single).

Chances are it might be a charity single aswell, there are only a few robbie songs i really like which are kids, come undone, let me entertain you and sin sin sin, i like rock dj, old before i die and trippin and the rest im not overly keen on, i wont be buying the cd either as the songs i like i have and i will download shame or buy the cd single if i like it.

I thought I didn't want a Take That/Robbie single but the thought of a Gary/Robbie collaboration feels worse. I can't believe they are doing something without the other 3. I hope beyond hope that it is a charity single.

I must admit I love She's The One.

It's going to be so much fun on here when it is released. If/when it is not that good ... the Rob fans will blame Gary and the Gary fans will blame Rob ... fans of neither will be thinking 'why did they bother?'.

I too love She's The One - even Rob's version ... although I prefer World Party's slightly more raw original.

but what will people say if the song turn out to be brilliant?

I somehow doubt it'll be brilliant (we're not talking Lennon & McCartney after all). However ... if it is 'good' then of course the Rob fans will say it's due to Rob and the Gary fans will say it's due to Gary. Simples. Those with no affinity to either will of course, quite rightly, not be arsed.

Take That have certainly got their own little monopoly going on.

Well I wanted to hate it ... but I actually like it. Not too keen on some of the lyrics (some are a bit cheesy - but I do like the Toys R Us line).

I love the video. Very, very, very tongue-in-cheek ... and the last few seconds are excellent. The song itself however ... well ... if it was anyone other than Robbie Williams / Gary Barlow on it ... and all of the brouhaha surrounding it ... I doubt it would get higher than top 20 in the charts. As it is ... it'll get to number 1.

Do you know what though ... I can't get the chorus out of my head right now ... and I've only heard it twice.

the second half of the song is much better than the first. And the end of the video is funny

They're back together again ... and in the era of the Brokeback Coalition, here's a homoerotic take on Robbie and Gary's patched-up relationship

It's the moment some feared would never happen while others feared it would. Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams are singing together on a song taken from Williams's forthcoming Greatest Hits, due in October. A preamble to Take That's reunion in November, think of this as a country-ish amuse bouche before the Stuart Price-produced, electro-tinged main course.

Shame has an arresting line about posters on the back of Toys R Us, but all attention will focus on the video, which sees the two men gaze lovingly into each other's eyes, strip to the waist and fall in love all over again. It's like Brokeback Mountain – but without that bit in the tent.

It's a nice song and a cool video, I like it. Still couldn't give a $h!t about them both though.

I'm surprised that anyone who isn't a TT fan or a Rob fan actually having a good word to say about it. I'm a TT fan but even I'm not 100% sold on it! Definitely no 'wow' factor in this. I hated Greatest Day but even that is better than Shame.

On the whole it seems to have been percieved very well

I'm disappointed with it Pete. It had that catchy guitar intro (no wonder it seemed familiar 'Blackbird singing in the day of night ....) but that's it for me. It is one of those cases where the video is vastly superior to the song.

I did want to hate it .... and for it to be absolutely rubbish (because I do think that both Gary and Rob have inflated illusions of themselves ... YES ... Rob AND Gary). At least if it was absolute rubbish it would have provoked an emotion ... but ... it's worse than that ... it's just ... forgettable.

Kath

I hope the TT album isn't a repeat of this. I'm hoping for more Mark input ... and some livelier songs.
