August 27, 201014 yr I'm disappointed with it Pete. It had that catchy guitar intro (no wonder it seemed familiar 'Blackbird singing in the day of night ....) but that's it for me. It is one of those cases where the video is vastly superior to the song. I did want to hate it .... and for it to be absolutely rubbish (because I do think that both Gary and Rob have inflated illusions of themselves ... YES ... Rob AND Gary). At least if it was absolute rubbish it would have provoked an emotion ... but ... it's worse than that ... it's just ... forgettable. Kath I hope the TT album isn't a repeat of this. I'm hoping for more Mark input ... and some livelier songs. You're spot on with the Blackbird comparison, I knew it reminded me of something but couldn't put my finger on it. I kept thinking of Wooden Boat for some reason, but I knew there was something closer to it. I really like the song myself, it's anthemic in a middle of the road sort of way.

I knew the intro was extremely familiar but it wasn't actually until Deniro said the magic word 'Blackbird' and I remembered why ... so I can't take credit for spotting it. Besides ... there appear to be thousands of music fans out there who have spotted it as well. Kath
August 28, 201014 yr Author The song is creeping up all over European iTunes ... as high as number 12 on the German chart. Proves one thing ... even Rob fans buy mediocrity just because his name is attached to it ... nothing to do with Gary this time. Kath
August 28, 201014 yr #3 on German iTunes in fact :o http://ax.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt...=889990/rss.xml although this is his biggest market outside of the UK I think...even Rudebox got to #1 there :/
August 28, 201014 yr Author #3 on German iTunes in fact :o http://ax.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt...=889990/rss.xml although this is his biggest market outside of the UK I think...even Rudebox got to #1 there :/ It is only iTunes though ... surely it won't feature in a proper chart. Well, well, well ... if it does just goes to show ... the Germans can buy sh/te music just as much as the Brits do! If it does chart (at all) ... and lets say it is on Rob's name its doing so ... what does that say about previous Rob German chart positions. Where they buying the music ... or just the name. Kath Its at 4 in the Austrian chart too (iTunes). As suspected though ... its dropping off rapidly elsewhere. I'm surprised at the Dutch ... I thought they'd have more sense ... but its number 13 there! Edited August 28, 201014 yr by Kathyp
August 28, 201014 yr I wanted to hate this song and I thought that the video sounded cringey when it was described in the paper but I really like it. The more I hear it the more I like it. I can't get the melody out of my head either. It's no patience or rule the world but it's a really lovely song :)
August 31, 201014 yr Well i heard it a few times on the radio today in full, i hav eto say it wanst what i was expecting at all, at first i was ooh i dont know about this but i got to like it more and more each timei heard it. Its definitly a grower and i can see it doing very well. Its neither Take Thatsor Robbies best work but its certainly neithers worst either.
August 31, 201014 yr I have to admit that as much as I was hoping this song would just be absolutely awful, I have listened to it several times and there are portions that keep running through my head. It's not amazing by any means but I do like it much more than I thought I would. The video makes it even better. I did get to see a portion of the Chris Moyles radio interview and I have to say that Robbie looks a lot more comfortable with this "reunion" than Gary. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

I thought Rob came off a lot better than Gary did in the interview (I suppose because he was talking the most). He did seem more keen about it than Gary. I hate to say this but I find Gary Barlow quite smug lately ... and he really shouldn't be photographed/filmed from the back. Kath I still hate the song ... but I do quite like the remix that DeNiro has posted in one of the Robbie threads. Edited August 31, 201014 yr by Kathyp
August 31, 201014 yr The song is a grower and a real grower at that, i still havnt watched the video in full yet though.
September 2, 201014 yr I just downloaded "Shame" from U.S. Itunes. I wish Take That would make their music that accessible to U.S. fans.
September 2, 201014 yr How is it on itune sover there already??? I'm not sure why, really. It says it was released here on August 27th. They must want you to have to wait for weeks in anticipation so everyone will be excited to download it and get it to number 1. :)
September 29, 201014 yr Author By the way Pete ... Gary and Robbie are on Paul O'Grady on 8th October. Kath
September 29, 201014 yr I look out for that as id like to see the performnace if they are performing and more importantly see what they have to say in the interview.
September 30, 201014 yr I'll have to look for that on youtube when the time comes. I like Paul O'Grady - even though his accent is hard for me to understand at times. His interviews are always on the funny side. I guess if we can't have a Jonathan Ross interview, this will be the next best thing.
October 3, 201014 yr Shame has now moved up to number 5 on itunes, i know number 1 is unlikely but i think top 3 is lookig very promising as shame will get very strong phyisical sales that will boost it. Take me for example this is the first robbie related single i have bought since kids but i have shame pre ordered from hmv,on saying that i have bought all of take that singles since they returned.

I won't be buying it. I may get the next one that Gary wrote 'Heart and I' as it is good. Shame ... for me is still quite dreadful. Kath
