June 26, 201014 yr About Uruguay, South Korea, USA or Ghana getting into the semi-final... well, it's Germany's and England's fault for that! At least one of them would have got this easy way through these 4 teams to reach the semis... but they failed and now have the hardest way of all tbh... Germany's fault for coming first in their group? :P They would have only been under those 4 if they came 2nd. ;) England has only themselves to blame, though.
June 26, 201014 yr Germany's fault for coming first in their group? :P They would have only been under those 4 if they came 2nd. ;) England has only themselves to blame, though. I disagree. I genuinely believe England stand a better chance against Germany, than they would have done if they were playing against Ghana. As Ghana have greater speed, and athleticism = very Scandinavian. And England have always struggled against those type of teams in the last few decades. Whilst England's greatest enemy has always been over expectation & complacency, which is the one thing you wont get when the opponents are Germany (and then hopefully Argentina).

Whilst England's greatest enemy has always been over expectation & complacency, which is the one thing you wont get when the opponents are Germany (and then hopefully Argentina). But the last time England reached the world cup semi-final (in '90) they also played an African team (Cameroon) before... One big problem why they always being knocked out was - penalties of course - but hard opponents too. They never had an easy way ever and sometimes it was their own fault! For example, Germany reached the final in 2002 and England only QF there... but the only reason was, that England got Brazil two rounds earlier before the Germans... (would they get any other team of the QF at that time - they would have won...)! Now it's the same! If Green wouldn't have done this mistake they would be group winner and then they had the easiest way ever but it's just the other way around and I can't believe that they could win all these difficult games (they were too weak anyway)... @zechhh Germany knew, when Australia made the 2-0, that they only need to make a draw for getting the easy opponents but they still "played" to win the group & get to this "hard way"... and that's a bit stupid to be honest... As Ghana have greater speed, and athleticism = very Scandinavian. But Ghana really isn't that good, IMO. They are pretty harmless in the offense. Look at the many big chances they wasted against Germany. 80% of other teams in this World Cup would have beaten Germany easily with that horrible showing of the defense on Wednesday. Actually, the only 2 goals that they scored have been penalties, IIRC. @zechhh Germany knew, when Australia made the 2-0, that they only need to make a draw for getting the easy opponents but they still "played" to win the group & get to this "hard way"... and that's a bit stupid to be honest... I don't follow that linke of thinking at all. Are you saying the Germans should have intentionally gone for a draw although they could have won and therefore manipulate the match? THAT would have been stupid. Especially since it was Germany and they already have a black stain in their history because of that. My predictions for tomorrow is a 2-1 for England, btw. :P

Then what are England? From their three Group matches they had 19 attempts at goal on target (the third highest in the group stages behind Argentina & Brazil), but converted just 2 of them, so does that mean they are are pretty harmless in the offence as they keep wasting chances?

They were in those three matches but have already shown that they can be a lot better than that in previous matches. Ghana hasn't. At least to me.
June 26, 201014 yr Uruguay vs. South Korea Great game it had everything very entertaining, the second half the South Koreans had many chances to score, after Uruguay fell to sleep for a bit.
June 26, 201014 yr Re: the Uruguay v South Korea game ..... it is crying out for the tabloid headline (to paraphrase an old Elton John song) ...... "Suarez seems to be hardest word for South Korea". :D
June 26, 201014 yr ^ Liking that :o England had 19 shots at goal? Their form so far is inexcusable, really But tomorrow's a new day though - we'll have to wait and see :P I think 1-0 to Germany
June 26, 201014 yr Well, looks like the US defense had a meltdown again......as the US squad goes down to Ghana 2-1, in extra time.....methinks I'll jump on the bandwagon of the winner in the Germany-England match tomorrow..... Of course, they had more than enough wayward shances, did the US to try to win, but..... Edited June 26, 201014 yr by bigwiglaf
June 27, 201014 yr Last nights game vindicated my view that had England played Ghana we would have lost. If only Ghana had a Didier Drogba then they really could be World Cup winners contenders, as they were far more dominant than the scoreline suggested. We stand a much greater chance of defeating Germany today.
June 27, 201014 yr South Korea would've won as well I think if they had someone who could finish. Lee Dong Gook? Dear me.
June 27, 201014 yr The World Cup is becoming farcical now. With all the technology we have available why are such important games being decided on refereeing errors which could (and have) been proved wrong within 15 seconds of the goal being given. A joke, a 100% utterly diabolical joke.
June 27, 201014 yr It must be really bitter for England to see Germany and Argentina benefit from wrong referee decisions... -_-
June 27, 201014 yr I couldn't care less who it happened to, it should not be happening at this level. Other main sports of the world (Cricket, Tennis, Rugby) all use technology to improve the game. Football is fast becoming a laughing stock.
June 27, 201014 yr Good grief what a commotion, the goal was a bad decision, it was clearly off side.

Argentina & Germany = big boys so they benefit from the rub of the green, because advertisers/broadcasters who pay big bucks to FIFA want to see these biggest nations reach the final stages of the tournament.
