I dont understand the judges excitement over Cher, I hardly understood a word she was singing and she was out of tune a fair bit at the beginning

I can't believe you can't believe the judges' excitement over Cher ... when you were raving about the distinctly average Mary Byrne last week! Cher was bloody fantastic. Not only the best so far this series (although admittedly that hasn't been hard to achieve) she's probably one of the best for as long as the show has been going.

I thought Liam was very, very average if I'm honest.

I hope Cher goes far ... this show is almost worth putting up with all the dross if it throws up one true talent.

OMG

First of all - I :heart: Cher Someone different, who dosen't do soppy ballads :wub:

Secondly, those girls are laughhhhable, just some stupid teenagers who didn't give a damn :kink:

"Who are you" so true, I hate Natalie Imbruglia, don't know what goes on in Simon's head sometimes ;)

Did anyone else think that those two girls (Abby and something) were a 'double-up Vicky Pollard'?

I bet if Cher makes the final 12, whoever judges her, will make her change her name to something else.
Yes Cheryl. Isn't punching someone in the face just disgusting? All she needs to do now really is front an anti-violence campaign and she'll have gone full circle hypocrisy.

I have stolen this for a facebook status and I'm not even ashamed ^_^

Love you Aled xx

Cher was just nothing special, bought nothing new to the table, she is certainly not unique voice wise, Eartha Kitt was unique, Tina Turner is for example, her namesake is even, they bought something new to the table vocally, this was just a white girl who thought she was black, bog standard R+B stuff

But Mary Byrne was nothing special and yet you were raving about her like crazy (well not like crazy ... but you were raving a bit). Cher was 100 times better than Mary.

I am a huge fan of the original, am not a massive Tom fan but I loved his version of it so I judged it against that and IMHO she passed with flying colours, real power and emotion in the song from her, on top of that she made for a great story, overweight plain housewife making it as an X Factor star, Cher was just some wigga doing karaoke

I just read this post about an x factor audition (in front of producers): http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8209429.stm

It sounds pretty vile. :(

I've read quite a few similar stories over the past few years. I think all TV shows these days are like this ... from auditioning for Eggheads (which I have) through to big time TV shows like X-F. They're not interesting in 'being good at' they're only interested in what makes the best TV ... either by picking the stupidest people to be on quizzes or by picking the mentally unstable for talent shows.

I would have put it the other way round ... I think Mary was karaoke and Cher shows a glimpse of someone who could go far. Mary's 'story' was the only thing going for her ... as her voice was just ordinary ... I've heard much better at my local on a Saturday night.

Cher wasn't BAD, I just didn't "get" her, did nothing for me, if I was a judge I would have probably said yes but I saw nothing in her that makes me think possible winner

I bet if Cher makes the final 12, whoever judges her, will...make her perform Mariah and Celine ballads ensuring her untimely exit in week 4 of the live finals. :manson:

Shame as I genuinely think Cher is one of very few people who I've seen audition and have been really impressed. Thought Liam sang 'Cry Me A River' very well. He reminds of Leon Jackson for some reason - the only difference being Liam can sing in tune.

These two along with that 51 year woman from last week who sang 'I Who Have Nothing' are by far the best "singers" I've seen so far. Sadly we are bound to have some $h!t Jedward-esque act to embarrass Grate Britain on an international scale. -_-

There was something about Cher though. She has this really charming quirky nature about her - completely different to Diana Vickers. She's actually like an RnB Diana Vickers so we have:

Leona = big ballads

Alexandra = disco pop

Diana = indie pop

Cher = RnB pop

They all tick different boxes, and I'm aware Diana wasn't a winner but she's still got her own style. Cher could go a long way whether she wins or not.

oh now that you mention it, those two french singers at the start were absolutely awful- how on earth did they get through?! :manson:

I just didn't think she was that good though tbh, unlike Diana who sung brilliant versions of Man In The Mirror and Call Me, admittedly I have only heard her sing one song and need to hear more of her to properly judge but even that song she did the first 1/3 seemed out of tune at times, there was nothing in her voice that stood out for me, she was trying to become the Eminem of her genre (white person singing black ghetto music) and it just didn't work for me

"OMG OMG OMG She just punched her". YOURE ONE TO f***ING TALK CHERYL.

Mhmmm.

:rofl:
