Don't see it tbh, she hasn't got the range, she will be fine at r+b (although Aiden took it to a whole new level last night) and Cheryl Cole songs but I really think she will be like a fish out of water if they do rock week again and I can't see her doing a swing song well unless somehow her mentor finds some r+b track with a trumpet in, she looks a 1 trick pony to me

Are you kidding? She could nail it if there was a Rock week! Give her Patti Smith's 'Because The Night' and she'd have the audience eating out of the palm of its hand. Contrary to popular belief ... Rock isn't the hardest of genres to do ... different (for Cowell's mentality) but certainly not difficult.

Not a chance, sorry, Patti has a raw power to her voice along with some real grit to it and she just doesn't have that, I have lots of Patti Smith everything from work she has done with Eddie Van Halen and Sammy Hagar to Rock and Roll n***** to Because The Night and it would be car crash tv if she tried it, she will probably do something like Simply The Best or something like that but even then she will find it overwhelming

I'm sorry ... but Because The Night is NOT the most difficult of songs to sing. I merely mentioned it as if there were a Rock Week ... it is a sample of a song that could be sung by anyone ... I just think if you asked all 12 finalists to sing it ... Cher would do it most justice. Sure ... she'd put her own quirky stamp on it ... but she'd have done the job.

I think people are a bit too precious about their genres.

Edit ... you mentioned 'Simply The Best' ... that is a deceptively harder song to sing than BTN!

Charlene was pretty good, but she needs a lot of coaching to improve, her confidence is not all there.

You need a certain voice to do rock though, Lucie Jones absolutely NAILED Sweet Child of Mine last year, probably the best performance of the entire series but you could tell by her previous efforts in the series that she had some raw power to her like with the Whitney track and Summertime etc and I just don't see that at all in Cher, maybe I just didn't like the song I don't know, need to hear some more of her and a different genre but I just think she would be hopelessly out of her depth outside of her r+b comfort zone, time will tell

Was Marlon the guy who sang 'Ain't No Sunshine'? Calm down people ... he wasn't that good! He's of the ... 'why use one note when 15 will do?'. Average, average, average. And he certainly isn't the best of the males so far. Diva Fever were better!

Oh dear, him? :manson: He's this years Danyl Johnson. Anyone thought he was excellent, go back and listen to his first two lines again. Flat as a pancake - in fact, even flatter than a pancake. If he makes the live finals, I predict now he's going to become a victim of a musical car crash (ie; Danyl Johnson butchering 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' on live TV).

Agree about Diva Fever. Camper than the campest thing on earth (Tyler?) but very good singers. At least they can sing in tune.

Having seen all the auditions from over the last few weeks, I only have high hopes for the girls category. That's led by Cher Lloyd but I'm now waiting to see how she performs at boot camp - that will determine her fate.

Fave 16-27 girl; Cher

Fave 16-27 boy; Paige

Fave over; Lady who sang 'I Who Have Nothing' (but has 0% chance of winning The X Factor)

Fave group; there isn't one (quelle surprise)

I'm really amazed (and a tad disappointed) that whenever all the judges 'rave' about a contestant ... almost everyone here on BJ raves too! It's like X-F does have some subliminal power over viewers. I really did think that most people on BJ had minds of their own ... but sadly ... they seem to be just Cowell mini-clones.

Sorry for any offence caused ... but (apart from the few of us that are immune - Josh, Hitstastic and me) its the plain honest truth!

I am biased towards songs that I personally love and that is one that I love along with I Have Nothing and It's a Man's World etc

Aside from classic rock and heavy metal I love soul and motown so pay particular attention to songs that are of genres I like which is maybe why Cher went right over my head, had she sung her namesake or Diana Ross or Tina Turner for example she might have made a bigger impression

I loved Danyl's audition last year as again he nailed a song I loved

Well as much as I thought she was a nice lady ... I thought the woman who sang I Who Have Nothing sounded just like my old auntie getting up at a Karaoke ... she really wasn't that great! I've heard that song loads and loads of times and am more than familiar with it ... which is why I can tell a fabulous version (Shirley Bassey) and an average 'paint by numbers' version - the woman on X-F. On the other hand ... I may sound old ... but I'd NEVER heard the song that Cher Lloyd sang ... but I loved the sounds that were coming out of her mouth ... and it made me want to listen to that song again.

She is not a professional singer though, Shirley Bassey wonderful though she is is and has had all the voice coaching in the world whereas Mary is used to pricing up tins of salmon and singing in the bath, of course she is not going to be Shirley Bassey quality or indeed any professional singer quality, X Factor is one big karaoke contest and she performed I Have Nothing well IMHO

Sometimes it seems like some posters on Buzzjack read what others have posted and just post the exact same thing showing very little sign of an opinion. Eg; I've never understood the fascination of posting "THIS". Ok, you agree with someone else. Do explain why though. "THIS" is just lazy arsed spam.

Rant over. :P

I do have opinions ;) I have been a lone voice almost in the non Cher bummage on here for instance

X Factor is just karaoke really, none of them on there truly deserve a long lasting musical career that I have heard this year

X Factor doesn't compare with some of the American stuff, this for me is the single greatest reality tv performance ever

...but you have to start panicking when a contestant peaks at his audition and goes rapidly downhill from there onwards.

From 'A Little Help From My Friends' to 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' is criminal. I never buy this "i couldn't hear the backing track" nonsense. If you've been rehearsing the same song for 5 days solid, you'll at least know what key you're supposed to be singing in. Singing in tune but out of time to the backing track is one thing, singing out of tune full stop is another.

I certainly dont agree with Simon on everything- but I did think Marlon was quite good, with a very good voice, not a good start and he did overdo it- but perfectly decent

Oh Danyl was shocking in the series itself, his audition was simply awesome but he was one of the worst live finalists that I have ever seen, out of tune 95% of the song and then saves his bacon by a hollywood moment, some of his live show performances were worse than Jedward's IMHO

Which is why I don't buy some of things Simon Cowell says. He's clearly thinking about what makes great TV and not so much what makes great music. He'd always say "taking into account the last 30 seconds, that was world class".

WHAT?!!! If Danyl went to America and sang Aerosmith's song like that he'd have been laughed back out of the country before the first chorus started.

Tonights' X Factor auditions show really irritated me as well. Some lad had just performed (missed what he sang) but Simon Cowell says "a girl in the audience just said rubbish and I'm inclined to agree". Followed by some pointless banter between Simon, Louis and Nicole. Louis gives him a no but Nicole says yes. Then Simon turns around and says "you'll be happy to know you've got two yes' " WTF? Simon was so inclined to agree he was rubbish that he gave him a yes.

No wonder The X Factor will never produce another Leona Lewis. Talk about degrading TV. Only the braindead watch and believe everything they see - there's so much given away because of the shocking editing. If you actually "watch" The X Factor auditions, there are many flaws.

oh agree totally, X Factor is about "entertainment" not talent and the contestants are just pawns in Cowell's little games

X Factor for me will never hold a candle to something like Rock Star INXS or even Fame Academy as that had originality and people creating their own material, X Factor is just a pub karaoke contest on live tv

I think you may have misconstrued what The Dark Lord meant. When he said a member of the audience said 'rubbish' ... he meant that that member of the audience was commenting that Louis appraisal of the contestant was rubbish. Hence the following (boring) sequence of Louis being in monochrome (illustrating his bad mood).

I actually agreed with Louis' initial summing up ... the act was average bordering on sh/te.

When Simon said that, he meant what Louis was saying about the contestant, he actually liked him, hence it then going to Black and White Louis- which was pretty funny

edit: as Kathy has said :P
