Hey :)

It's got a good chance of being my next #1 too, battling out with Annemie

4 3 Lucenzo & Big Ali - Vem Dançar Kuduro

So you do like this? :o

5 12 Kylie Minogue - All The Lovers Top 5 :D fantastic song!

Agreed. Though it's cooling off for me, don't think it's got a shot at topping my chart. Don't think it'll beat Dizzee in the UK charts either :o

8 15 Dan Balan - Chica Bomb Not a massive fan of this really :( I like the music but hate his vocals

There's something oddly appealing about this. This will be it's peak though

21 33 Jessy Matador - Allez Ola Ole :D I always liked this when everyone else seemed to hate it, so I'm glad it's doing well across Europe!

Being a footie song will ensure this lasts longer than the rest too

27 NEW Benny Benassi ft Kelis & Apl - Spaceship I do like this, just not quite enough to chart it yet

I find it brilliant. Just got the mp3 too, which should ensure steep climbs in the coming weeks ^_^

48 NEW Shy'm - Je Sais  Very catchy, and I don't speak much French!

It's good, but she's done A LOT better :P I pretty much prefer all her previous singles to this

Thanks :D

I really think early summer turned my opinion on the year 2010 musicwise around, a bit at least. Not the UK charts, but overall there's a lot of good summery music around, I think my chart consists mostly of summer jams right now :)

And mine, I completely agree with you - European wise it's a great summer for music, shame this isn't reflected in the UK, but as much as I hate football songs clogging up the chart now, it's nice to have a bit of light relief from all of the generic urban nothings that have dominated the top 40 throughout the entire year  And at least a couple of them that are crossing over here (K'Naan/Shakira) are decent!

r.e. Vem Dançar Kuduro - I left it in by mistake :drama: it's ok though, but Big Ali really ruins it for me, is there a version without him? Will have a look into Shy'm's other songs although Step Back was only average for me.

I'm just loving seeing pop and dance back in the european charts again for once. Urban and mor has pretty much dominated the previous years, time for a change.

Not aware of a Big Ali-less version I'm afraid.

Shy'm songs I love:

Femme De Couleur (her debut)

Victoire

T'Es Parti

Premiere Fois

Si Tu Savais

try these out :)

Yes agreed, very 2000-style isn't it with the pop/dance Euro domination :o Some of it's making it over to the UK, and it's literally selling off word of mouth (look at Yolanda Be Cool going top 40 here on iTunes with zero promotion). But it's not getting any promotion whatsoever - Waka Waka has had no airplay or video play and has made it to #22 on iTunes purely off football hype and the world cup performance. Satellite and Allez! Ola! Ole! could be much bigger too if they got airplay and video play (from somewhere other than Radio 2 :drama:). But all radio and TV play here is urban urban urban (or Lady GaGa :P) and it's getting really tedious now.

Urban is still huge, but I think there is a sign that people want change, and pop and dance are probably the likely genres to substitute its reign. One of our major stations here, pretty much played only R&B, then a bit of dance and pop, now it seems to be playing more dance than R&B lately. Maybe similar stuff is going on elsewhere - there are loads of big dance hits around atm, and they're all becoming big hits in Europe - recently it seemed like each country had their own dance hits and none managed to spread over the whole continent.

I've definitely noticed it - since about 2003, my chart has swung from being almost completely dance dominated to almost completely pop dominated. You only need to look at the retro charts I post sometimes to see that a top 5 hit that wasn't dance was a rare occurence! Much more dance songs are breaking back into my chart this year, mostly from Europe, and peaking higher again (like Stereo Love at #2). I hope it's a trend that continues :D

I think people want fun back in music, most of the previous decade was so dull compared to the late 90s.

Atm, accordian based dance songs are the big thing in Europe, with uber catchy melodies. I think it's a good change from the saturated electro meets rap hybrid that has become so stale. I think western europe is finally catching up with eastern europe, who have always been more european music (especially dance) based.

I completely agree.

I hope so, because it's getting to the point where I can't stand to turn the radio on here anymore for sheer monotony and boredom of either the same old songs and artists, or tired sounds coming back again and again. The German charts so far this year (and indeed throughout 2009) are what I wished the UK charts were like at the moment. A perfect mix of fantastic homegrown talent, US and UK smashes, and European hits. But here in the UK, if it's not UK or US urban, it doesn't get played. People like it, as you can see by the amount of 'different' songs charting in the top 40 this year without Radio 1 airplay, but without the prolonged airplay, they just fade quickly as most people don't get to hear them :(

But the UK has always been a bit tougher for euro tracks to cross over there, maybe because it's an island :P The difference is back then, the UK and US music dominating the charts were pop and dance rather than urban :P Although I do think there are less european hits crossing over than 10 years ago. Artists like ATB, Vengaboys, Sash, etc, all seemed to have hits with ease.

For me the German charts have been so-so, definitely the least dance based country in Europe imo. But maybe things will change soon. I blame it on VIVA being bought by Viacom since 2004
