I know its slowing moving onto other formats (gaming, television) but I think 3D has taken over the Cinema more than anything else atm. What do you think of it? Is it annoying? Is it becoming a gimmick?

I have yet to watch a film with the "new" 3D format (Thank you very much Showcase Cinemas) but like pretty much everyone else in the world I have seen the old red/blue 3D which I didn't mind to much but I think since about last year it started getting out of hand. Its acceptable in certain films which kinda rely on the effect (Avatar) but I don't think every other film needs it :/ To answer my own question, it isnt becoming a gimmick, it is a gimmick. It seems like every trailer for a film has 3D in huge bold letters like its supposed to make us even more excited for it whereas I'm feeling like "Oh... another one? ok." It seems like all that extra money used on 3D could've been spent on better writers for the script etc. But yeah thats just my view. I'm sure I have more to say but at 1:40am and after a long day at work, my mind is long zzzzzzzz

I remember i watched a film in the cinema in 3D like... hmmm... 8-9 years ago. :o Then the whole 3D bandwagon had some kind of hiatus until Avatar and everything... I never went to see a 'new' 3D movie since back then and i am quite interested! :o I have nothing against 3D btw, it surely couldn't be that expensive since the real 3D only involves shooting from two different points, i.e. two cameras.

I'm not keen tbh, I think the idea of 3D televisions in the home is ridiculous tbh and a waste of money, I think 3D does some films justice (i'm not a Avatar fan but it looked great in 3D theres no denying that) but on my tv at home, not as great tbh. The problem with some films, including Avatar, is that they are being sold on being 3D, they should be being sold on the film, not the fact its 3D.

I dont like the idea of 3D games at all.

I've only seen Avatar and Clash Of The Titans in 3D and I have to say both were unnoticable and utterly pointless, just a money making scheme.

I'm yet to see a 3D film where its actually noticable. Is there any good ones out there?

I miss the old school 3D of the cardboard red and blue glasses. Spy Kids 3D was f***ing epic.

:o Just imagine how epic 3D COD would be! <3

I have yet to see a 3D movie. :( In fact, I have yet to watch Avatar.

Avatar in 3D was incredible, although admittedly I saw it in IMAX. COTT 3D less so. I do think it's a bit of a gimmick.
I would say it worked in Avatar (unfortunately the film itself was rubbish.... ), and "Alice in Wonderland" to up to a point, and, ironically, it would likely work fantastically well in Chris Nolan's "Inception" too... But, for about 90-odd% of films it's gimmicky, unnecessary and just naff.... Seems to me it's just an excuse to drive cinema prices up in a lot of cases tbh....
I watched 'Street Dance' yesterday in 3D. Yeah, it was nice, you feel like you're participating in the whole thing but 3D was REALLY unnecessary for that film.
I think it's so pointless. I saw Up in 3D and I swear I didn't even notice any 3D bits in it, it was a complete waste of a £10 ticket! I mean, to be fair they showed the trailer for A Christmas Carol before it though and that did look awesome in 3D but at the same time I really don't need it to enjoy a movie. It's just a gimmick to get people going to the cinema again because these days, with 50" TV's and Blu-Ray players, there isn't much need, especially with ticket and snack prices so high.

I have nothing against 3D, but now everything is 3D. Some of the films have no real reason to be 3D, but others thrive with it.

I haven't actually see any films in 3d yet (recent ones anyway) (I'm planning on going to the cinema in about 2 weeks though so it'll depend on if there's any 3d films showing at the local cinema)

That's mostly because I haven't been to the cinema in ages. The last time I went was probably a little while before the first big 3d movies started coming (like Avatar and Alice in wonderland)

Maybe it's just because I'm not used to it, but anytime I've tried out 3d it makes my eyes hurt and I feel disorientated. :(

I do strongly think though (and this is the case with many things not just 3d) that 3d shouldn't be tacked on to something just because it's brand new and shiny....it should actually make some sense to incorporate 3d in it.

I don't mind 3D movies though the extra ticket cost sucks. In the end though I guess it really depends on the actual movie I'm going to see to decide whether I want to see 3D or not.
How much extra do 3d movies cost than normal ones?

Here it's usually $5 or so

Around my area, they charge £1 extra and if you save your 3D glasses for the next time you go then you save £1
