Posted June 20, 201015 yr There are some songs that could've been huge hits if promoted or released properly, but instead they flopped big time, some of these songs are classics in the making, yet they failed to sell enough to get them noticed. By flop i mean songs that didn't make it into the top 40 or made it for 1 week maximum, so please do not include top 40 hits unless they stayed in the charts for 1 week only, and only include songs that were released in 2009 or 2010, and no album tracks please , these will be subject to another thread. Here is my list of the undeserved flops: -Hearts Don't Lie - Gabriella Cilmi: Maybe one of the best disco songs to be released the past 10 years ,in the same level as Blondie's 'Heart of glass',yet it failed to make it into the top 100. Maybe it's caus' Gabriella didn't promote it at all. But it's such a classic gay anthem. -Bitterweet - Sophie Ellis Bextor: Could've been her comeback hit, amazing tune with a great chorus, yet it stayed in the top 40 for 1 week only. -Rocket- Goldfrapp: Probably their most commercial track ever, but still it only limped at number 47. -Alive - Goldfrapp: Again, very disco-ish, very Abba meets Scissor Sisters, yet it didn't chart. What the hell happened ?? -One Love - David Guetta & Estelle : Arguably the second most commercial song on David's album , it only reached number 46 -Rollacoasta - Robin Thicke Ftr Estelle: Probably one of the funkiest disco-R&B songs to be released the past 3 years, this song also failed to chart. The curse Of Estelle's flop collaborations continues. -Make Me - Janet Jackson: amazing funky pop song, her most commercial since 'Together again', she performed it on the x-Factor yet it barely made the top 75. The video is amazing too, such a shame it flopped. -Rain - Mika: His first album was a worldwide smash, his second album gave him flop after flop. this should've been top 10 at least, but it only made number 72. - Kick Ass - Mika Vs Red One: Mika thought Red One could save his career like he did with many other artists, oh boy he was so wrong, the song barely made it to the top 100. In my opinion, 'Kick ass' would've made the top 5 at least if released in 2007, Mika's commercial peak. -Earthquake - Little Boots: This was supposed to be another top 10 hit for the girl who was hailed by the British press as the 'new Kylie'.Instead this instant pop classic only limped at number 84. Poor Thing!!! -Upside Down - Paloma Faith: Why this song wasn't the new 'Mercy' and stayed at number 1 for 5 weeks??? The answer to this question still eludes me, 'Upside Down' is problably the best.most-instant nu-jazz song since Duffy's number 1 hit, yet it failed to make it into the top 40. - OMG - Sabrina Washington One of the most commercial pop songs of the past 2 years, a great sample, amazing hook and catchy chorus, yet it failed miserably. Should've been top 10 at least. - Want - Natalie Imbruglia Maybe her most instant song since 'Torn', 'Want' would've been Natalie's comeback single. Maybe bad timing, bad promotion??? The song failed to reach the top 75. - Morning Sun - Robbie Williams Probably the best song in that genre that the Beatles or Oasis or even Robbie hasn't written. 'Morning Sun' is up there with 'Sorry seems to be' by Elton John, and 'Hey Jude' by the Beatles as one of the best moments in songwriting. 'Morning Sun' didn't even bother the top 40, blame cherry-picking or the fact that the new download chart isn't quite favourable for established artists. -DJ- Alphabeat If Alphabeat were an 80's new wave band, they would've been more succesful than Duran Duran, the Human League or Erasure put together. 'DJ' is an undiscovered pop gem, so undiscovered than no one even bothered to download it or buy it, except me when i was in London earlier this month  !!!! -Real Late Starter - Nerina Pallot Nerina Pallot should've been Britain's Taylor Swift, except that she has talent, and she's a great songwriter and she's not country. Yet, the nation chose to completely ignore her. 'Real Late Starter' is a classic pop song and should've been at least in the top 10 for many weeks. Edited June 26, 201015 yr by Big Mistake
June 20, 201015 yr Gabriella Cilmi - Hearts Don't Lie: The album had bombed so horrifically and killed the era completely, plus it got practically zero support. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Bittersweet: Radio have completely abandoned Sophie by this point, it did well to even get to #25 all things considered. Goldfrapp - Rocket: Shunned by radio. Goldfrapp - Alive: Same as above, plus it was a terrible single choice when they had 'Believer'. David Guetta + Estelle - One Love: I guess because it's awful and universally recognised as being so. Robin Thicke + Estelle - Rollercoasta: Never even heard of this, but they're a pair of losers so it's not as if it was ever going to do anything. Janet Jackson - Make Me: She is over and has been for a long time, also had zero support barring one panned X-Factor performance. Mika - Rain: Very good song by his standards but the interest wasn't there after the first single and album slumped down. Mika vs RedOne - Kick Ass: Was completely ignored. Little Boots - Earthquake: This is the only genuinely surprising one in the list. I seriously don't know what happened with this one, it has all the relevant support and thought it would chart at least as high as 'New In Town' did. Gutting. Paloma Faith - Upside Down: I doubt she or anyone really cares as she's had consistent album sales, and this also did better than the single before it.
June 20, 201015 yr I'd add to that list: Ben Montague - Haunted: It's one of my favourite songs this year but I don't get why it wasn't a hit?? The Music - Strength in numbers: Powerful Rock/Electro tune! I remember it was only one week on #38 in the UK Charts before it dropped out completely (but I'm not sure if it was 2009 or 2008)...
June 20, 201015 yr Author Janet Jackson - Everytime I love this song i meant songs that were released in 2009 and 2010....
June 20, 201015 yr Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone Kings of Leon - Notion Slipknot - Psychosocial (just as much potential as "Duality" which got to #15) Foo Fighters - Wheels *resists temptation to say "21 Guns"* Edited June 20, 201015 yr by Jared Leto
June 20, 201015 yr VV Brown - Shark In The Water. Ignored completly by Radio 1, usually their snubs are understandable to some extent but this really had potential to be a huge summer anthem :( Has Kate Nash actually relesead Kiss That Grrl? My god, no one noticed at all then
June 20, 201015 yr Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone Kings of Leon - Notion Slipknot - Psychosocial (just as much potential as "Duality" which got to #15) Foo Fighters - Wheels *resists temptation to say "21 Guns"* 21 Guns didnt flop as bad as the other 4 did (with the exception of Wheels)
June 20, 201015 yr 21 Guns didnt flop as bad as the other 4 did (with the exception of Wheels) It didn't butt it arguably had more potential than any of them since it's basically "Wake Me Up When September Ends" with the same structure as "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".
June 20, 201015 yr Livvi Franc - Automatik  If Radio 1 got behind it, i think it could have easily gone top 10  Edited June 20, 201015 yr by Chriss_S
June 20, 201015 yr Hearts Don't Lie - Gabriella Cilmi Bitterweet - Sophie Ellis Bextor Rocket- Goldfrapp Make Me - Janet Jackson Rain - Mika Kick Ass - Mika Vs Red One Earthquake - Little Boots Upside Down - Paloma Faith Certainly all of these songs should have done alot better than they did. I think there are several factors to blame such as lack of promotion and radio play and the fact music is changing and more american urban crap seems to be dominating the charts.
June 20, 201015 yr Muse - Undisclosed Desires. One of my most favourite Muse songs ever and one of a few of their songs that didn't reach top 40 :( Edited June 20, 201015 yr by SoManyOstriches

Gabriella Cilmi, no matter how good she gets or how fit she is, lol, will never ever be near Blondie.

June 20, 201015 yr Nerina Pallot - Sophia Can't believe it stalled in the 30's - should have been a *massive* #1!
