January 17, 201114 yr It's hard to feel good about Ireland being in the easy semi when chances are we'll still be sending absolute garbage in the forms of Jedward. Such a wasted qualifying opportunity. :(
January 17, 201114 yr I think you're overestimating Jedward - they're likely to be the ones to get the nod but it's by no means certain!
January 17, 201114 yr Again in the first half of semi 1! :( With Finland! :o HI UK, you'll finally be able to vote for our (no doubt) great entry :w00t:
January 17, 201114 yr Don't bet on it :kink: Your last good entry was Serebro tbh. And we didn't even vote for tATu :kink:
January 17, 201114 yr I initially thought that the UK not being able to vote for Ireland was a bad thing, and then I realized that Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, France and Germany can't vote for Turkey, Albania, Azerbaijan, Armenia or Serbia, so there will be a lot of spare points... :P
January 18, 201114 yr -SmTLrFTpvg  Looking at this I don't think it's going to be Azerbaijan's year
January 18, 201114 yr -SmTLrFTpvg  Looking at this I don't think it's going to be Azerbaijan's year  Isn't that an old 'N Sync song called Pop? I assume their actual NF entries haven't been performed yet?
January 18, 201114 yr Yes I know that, I was a huge fan  But it's largely incomphensible. There was also a hilarious version of I Will Always Love You by a different lady the other night. They are picking the singer through their NF and then just giving them a song I think, like us in 2010, but potentially less crap.
January 18, 201114 yr I agree with Tom about Azerbaijan. Here is another one to look at YmqhPhP555I
January 18, 201114 yr Oh, nothing to worry about here. A young female will win this. The song gets revamped, generic-ised, literally hyped to death and will eventually finish in the lower half of Top 10! :D As per always these days. Don't bet on it :kink: Your last good entry was Serebro tbh. And we didn't even vote for tATu :kink: Serebro >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the last 8 British entries TOGETHER. Oh snap.

Serebro >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the last 8 British entries TOGETHER. Oh snap. Someone pointed out on another forum that I was on, that the Azerbaijan song hasn't been written by an Azerbaijani for about three years now. I have no argument with that tbh. It's My Time was kind of good tho. And Come Back.
January 19, 201114 yr Serebro >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the last 8 British entries TOGETHER. Oh snap. couldn't agree any more :kink:
January 19, 201114 yr Difference being that the yearly $hite from the UK always gets the position it deserves and the yearly $hite from Russia, well, definitely doesn't. Imo the UK deserved two top half finishes in the 00's and got them - Come Back and It's My Time. Russia deserved two top half finishes in the 00's - Solo and Song #1, yet managed a full sweep of ten :drama:

January 19, 201114 yr You didn't think tATu and Dima (both) at least deserved top half? Ok I was exaggerating to make a point but I wasn't a fan of any of those three songs particularly, hence why I started with 'in my opinion'. Dima's Never Let You Go was the best of the three, tATu were a vocal trainwreck in parts (maybe Jemini being even worse made them look better though ) and Believe was hugely overrated. If these three 'deserved' top half then so did Lindsay D, Javine and Daz Sampson. But if the UK had sent Lost & Forgotten and Russia had sent That Sounds Good To Me, let's face it, they'd have still been 11th and we'd have most definitely been last, and with nul points
January 19, 201114 yr I think it's just a case of prior cultural bias anyway - had Ireland sent Lost and Forgotten, I'm sure most British voters would've given it more of a chance and thought it just as LOL as the eastern countries thought it was when Russia sent it, and had Russia sent That Sounds Good To Me the cultural predisposition of the eastern nations would've made them see its (relatively) few merits more clearly.

Oh I agree. I've never been a believer in 'political' voting. Yes neighbourly voting goes on due to similar music tastes and culutre and of course diaspora voting does because why wouldn't you support your home country if you weren't living there. But it does get just a bit irritating when it does seem that some countries can literally get away with anything largely due to how many countries share their cultural tendencies (or used to be part of the same country/culture). If the UK split off into four, England's entries would do a lot better than the UK's all of a sudden. You've hit the nail on the head though - the UK have one country we can fall back on for points, Russia has about 15  So YES, the UK's entries have been shocking over the last decade, but so have a lot of Russian entries - the finishing position doesn't always represent quality :drama:
January 19, 201114 yr I can understand how some cultural and neighborly voting goes on.... but I don't like how some people are of the opinion that all of europe are like robots voting for their neighbors unconditionally....It's more complicated than that. There's probably a bit of luck mixed in too....if other countries "get" your song it doesn't matter if you're on the other side of europe from them. The problem is that that distance is often what makes it difficult to "get" each others songs. Edited January 19, 201114 yr by Sabrewulf
