July 27, 201113 yr I just watched this. It's an AMAZING film. Such a great cast and it's freaking HILARIOUS.
July 27, 201113 yr I watched this last week and it's SO GOOD. On the downside it made me hate Phoebe Buffay
July 27, 201113 yr Just realised I never commented on this. I'd give it an 8.5/10. It's incredibly natural - there's not really any point where it feels forced or horribly unrealistic (other than for Olive marching down the corridors with the 'A' sewn on to her corset but hey ho) and even though for the most part it's not laugh-out-loud funny it's incredibly endearing with a big very heart. Emma Stone is absolutely off the chain. After seeing this I went back and watched Zombieland and realised I'd become a bit of a crazed Emma Stone stan. She definitely beats Emma Roberts in the young Emmas acting stakes. Lisa Kudrow's character was totally inessential and I think I would rather she hadn't existed at all. Total heartless bitch but she played it too straight. A more campy performance might've saved what was just a very underwritten character. Fortunately Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci really BROUGHT THE FUNNY - Rosemary's anecdote about how she was in a relationship with a gay man 'for a very long time actually' was brilliant. Really this film was all about the cast rather than the story because the plot was pretty flimsy but Cam Gigandet, Aly Michalka and Dan Byrd all made for quite an exhilerating watch. Best of all though was Amanda Bynes who was an absolute REVELATION in this film. Basically as an extremely good natured, occasionally hilarious vehicle to introduce Emma Stone as the absolute tour de force that she is it was a great little film but the Mean Girls comparisons were a bit off I thought, it wasn't in the same uber-quotable pop culture vain as that film (that's not say it wasn't as good though).
July 28, 201113 yr Honestly one of my favourite films of last year, I don't think it's as good as Mean Girls (but really, what is?) as like Jark said it's hardly as quotable as it. It is really good fun and the cast really do make it - I've always adored Emma Stone since I saw The House Bunny but this made me a bit of a loon for her, I really enjoyed Aly Michalka as well, she suits being a trashy $l*t well. She's also probably the only good thing about The Roommate as well.
July 28, 201113 yr On the downside it made me hate Phoebe Buffay I could NEVER hate Phoebe Buffay.
July 28, 201113 yr This film ain't got shit on Mean Girls. I really didn't see the fuss about it at all. The best thing was obviously Amanda Bynes though... AMANDA PLEASE!
July 28, 201113 yr I don't really see the similarities to this and Mean Girls but it is a good film... very funny. Love the part when she's singing 'Pocketful of Sunshine'. Edited July 28, 201113 yr by Acoustic
