Excellent, it's great that they have started promoting now.. I can't wait till wimbledon :yahoo:
It's Darius we're talking about. Probably he will if they tie him down. I just hope he gets away with not resting.

He doesn't know the meaning of the word! I worry that he's doing too much this Saturday with both Glasgow and Bristol.

Glad the promotion getting under way now. Thanks Meg. Sue

Following in the footsteps of the great crooners such as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Andy Williams, Darius takes on his most challenging role yet. Crooning is a style that has its roots in the Bel Canto of Italian opera, but with the emphasis on subtle vocal nuances and phrasing found in jazz, and Darius could be made for the part.

What's on Stage

Darius Tours History of Big Band Show Pre Panto

Date: 10 August 2010

Darius Campbell, the reality TV star previously known as Darius Danesh who shot to fame after competing in Pop Idol, will return to the stage with the national tour of his own swing show, The History of Big Bands, playing 11 UK dates this autumn.

Campbell, who changed his surname to reflect his Scottish roots, kicks off his tour in St Albans on 11 September 2010 before one-night visits in Lincoln, Buxton, Brighton, Wimbledon, Inverness, Darlington, Woking, Bromley and Eastbourne, where it finishes on 4 November. He also tours to Glasgow's King's Theatre, where he will later be spending Christmas as Prince Charming in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The History of Big Bands features a 16-piece band and incorporates tunes made famous by the world's great band leaders, including Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington.

The swing show adds another string to Campbell’s bow. The singer-songwriter has also appeared in the musicals Chicago, Guys and Dolls and, most recently, Trevor Nunn’s ill-fated West End production of Gone With the Wind. He recently returned to ITV with another talent show, Popstar to Operastar, in which he competed against seven other chart-toppers, including Jimmy Osmond and Kym Marsh, for the title of Operastar. He was mentored by opera star Rolando Villazon, went on to win the competition and has since played Toreador, Escamillo in Carmen at The O2 Arena.

I assumed Soloists was referring to the solo instruments within the 16 piece band. I might have that wrong though. Does anyone else know ?

As far as i've heard.. it's only Darius singing :-)

Of the band leaders listed for the show each was known as an expert on one or more instuments and it was usual for him

to have a solo spot during the performance.

Duke Ellington ........................ piano

Benny Goodman......................clarinet

Harry James............................trumpet

Tommy Dorsey........................trombone, also trumpet and cornet

Glen Miller...............................trombone

Count Basie.............................piano, also organ

Woody Herman........................saxophone, clarinet and vocals

Buddy Rich..............................drums, percussion

..

The other soloists are the star instrumentalist for each featured instrument. Darius is the only singer.

general one but nice to see

Darius Campbell History of Big Bands tour

Darius Campbell who shot to fame after competing in Pop Idol is going on a national tour with his own swing show The History of Big Bands playing 11 UK dates this autumn starting in St Albans on 11th September 2010 before one-night gigs in Lincoln, Buxton, Brighton, Wimbledon, Inverness, Darlington, Woking, Bromley and Eastbourne where it finishes on 4th November.

The History of Big Bands tour features a 16-piece band playing classics by some the world's great band leaders including Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington.

Campbell was previously called Darius Danesh but changed is surname to reflect his Scottish roots. The pop singer-songwriter has appeared in a number of West End musicals: Chicago, Guys and Dolls and Trevor Nunn’s ill-fated Gone With the Wind (pictured here at Rhett Butler).

He recently appeared on ITV in another talent show Popstar to Operastar when he competed and beat seven other popstars to win the title and went on to play Escamillo in Carmen at The O2 Arena.

Each Band is also well known for particular pieces

Duke Ellington.........It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing

Benny Goodman......Sing, sing, sing

Harry James............September Song

..............................Embraceable You

..............................You made me love you

Tommy Dorsey........I'll never smile again

...............................Dolores

Glen Miller................String of Pearls

...............................In the mood

...............................Chatanooga choo choo

Count Basie..............One o'clock jump

Woody Herman.........Jeepers Creepers

...............................Woodchoppers Ball

Buddy Rich...............West Side Story

It will be interesting to see how many of these are included in the show.

Thanx Bramley and Meg for putting our minds at rest  ............thank god it is just Darius singing!! .......Just wish they wouldn't make it confusing for people...........as instruments played on their own are normally known as 'instrumentals' :)
