That's another gig that's sold well. Try and remember what's sung, please Sue. Not that that's easy. Enjoy it Sue. I hope it's as good as Wimbledon was.

Glad you enjoyed the show BT :) Shame about the screamers and the poor mic first half, but I knew you'd be able to hear D singing clearly throughout.

I get the strangest feeling. I am just a fan, a nobody, but when D sings he fills me with pride for him :) I guess I'm just odd, but I don't care, I can't help it :)

Me too B)

What a collection of odd balls. Obviously not me. I'm just normal. I just happen to like to hear him sing. If I just happen to be there at the time he does.

Darius gets swinging at the New Victoria Theatre

October 21, 2010

DASHING Darius swings his way to the New Victoria Theatre, Woking on Monday, October 25, at 7.30pm, with his show The History of the Big Bands.

The enigmatic Darius Campbell not only stars in the show, but he is also the producer. Featuring a magnificent 16 piece big band and a series of first class soloists – the audience is led on a musical ride from one band leader to another by the talented, charismatic and hugely successful Darius Campbell.

From pop star to opera star, Darius shot to fame through Pop Idol, had five Top 10 singles including the No. 1 Colourblind, a platinum album and a gold album. He’s starred on the West End stage in Chicago, Guys’n’Dolls and Gone with the Wind and he recently won TV’s Pop Star to Opera Star going on to play a lead role in Carmen in the O2 Arena. Following in the footsteps of the great crooners such as Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Andy Williams, Darius takes on his most challenging role yet.

Crooning is a style that has its roots in the Bel Canto of Italian Opera, but with the emphasis on subtle vocal nuances and phrasing found in jazz - Darius is made for the part.

The History of the Big Bands takes the audience on a musical journey through times of the Big Bands and Swing era. Featuring songs of Frank Sinatra, this cleverly narrated show about the key musicians of the big band era includes music from Harry James, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Woody Herman and Buddy Rich.

Meticulous research of original scores allows the band to perform all the famous tunes from the world’s greatest big band leaders in their original form – spotlighting a series of first class soloists from each Instrumental section, covering the famous solos as played by the original bandleaders.

The show promises to be an outstanding evening of high energy, virtuoso musicianship and wonderful songs. A fantastic show it’s sure to appeal to every big band fan and more.

Tickets from £17 can booked by calling the box office on 0844 871 7645 (booking fee applies).

Woking is selling really well now. Unless they open the very top circle there aren't that many tickets remaining. Still some available though - including some red patches near the front in good positions, odd group of 2 and 4. I have no idea why.

I was looking at those odd ones down front..sooo tempted, its around an hour from here- but OH will be working till 6 monday...keep going back to look at those near the front though, I may have to ask if he could possibly think about finishing earlier, but I dont hold out much hope tbh - I think they are there just so to torture me

I'd go for it - well I did. Don't leave it too late as there's a few new bits of advertising out. At the moment the Stalls and The Royal Circle are the only areas opened for the show. It'd be a shame not to have a recap of the show.

Just adding, an hour isn't that long. The journey will go in no time. This is my local show so I can drive there in 45mins.

I wonder if someone's had to return some tickets bought earlier, hence the good location and red colour. The other possibility is that they have restricted views, but that should be indicated on the site.

Gotta be worth a trip PIP if you can :)

The Glasgow show was amazing, they were very strict about photos as a few people around me got told to put their camera away as soon as they had it out even although everyone was switching their flashes off! I loved bada boom song :)

I remember the girls shouting we love u darius it wasn't me lol as I thought people would think it would be! lol

Afterwards was just utter mayhem to be honest if that was a queue god knows what a crowd was to the people! I was one of the very last people to get up to him he was his usual happy self said he had a brilliant time at his old primary school. Spoke to booth very quickly too!

I was shuffling everywhere as the dress I had was rather tight lol I sadly don't have a photo as my camera is broke & that I hoping someone manage to catch me while i was talking to him

Moved from new thread to cut down on threads, hope you don't mind.....

hi sharon & allof you, just thought i' d let you know what a great time i had at the kings on tuesday. Darius was superb & in great voice. such polished perfect vocals & so versatile. i cant make up my mind between 'Crazy Love' & Bada boom'. i love them both. my daughter was blown away with 'Crazy Love' & said it would make a great 'Bond theme song; & i do agree. audience gave this a great response. i also, as did the audience, love his beautiful rendition of that Nina Simone song (sorry,i can't remember the name of it) it also allowed him to show his vocal range & so tender. it would be nice to think an occasional 'cover ' like that, could be added to his new material for next album-but i dont think Darius would entertain that! my daughter's only critisism was that she wasn't so keen on the 1st half & felt the 'history lesson' was done a bit formally, not allowing the natural relaxed side of Darius to come through. the 2nd half she loved,& the way he joked around, & thought his new material was fantastic. she also felt it would have been better for audience, any critics present; if he had interspersed a couple of songs from the 2nd half on to the 1st half, to maximise her impression/ enjoyment, right from the outset. she's very opinionated you know, & even suggested in the 1st half, that more of a story could have been told, using scenery - i must agree- stage a bit basic & bare. still-Darius creates a presence to compensate. pity he doesn;t seem to get all the feedback. i'm sure it pays to sometimes heed loyal fans, to some degree! anaway, my daughter just loved the 2nd half,& thought his new music better than anything she's heard for a long time & she loved hi joking around, especially when he said " i cold just come down there amongst you", & then when they all sreeamed, he said- "i said i could"- "I DIDN'T SAY I WOULD"!, & hIS TIMING OF THAT ,BROUGHT GREAT LAUGHS FROM THE AUDIENCE& everything just got better &better from then on. i bought a programme(didn't care much for the photos)- not a good likeness, inside, and bronz in extreme, & shiny. Oh,by the way,on the inside cover of programme, yes it does end 4th nov:, but then in january or february(cant remember) it all starts again, similar size of tour, but different towns, in england & wales! Darius's name at the top,so do you know anything about this.It must be doing well,to extend! i needn't have worried as i made my way to the KINGS,-WHAT A RELIEF TO SEE THE QUE OUTSIDE, & TO FIND IT PACKED! & YES, I GET THAT SAME SENSE OF PRIDE THAT YOU ALL SEEM TO GET, WHEN Darius fulfills & succeeds my expectations. we must be daft- eh? ha ha... but mabey now you will understand how i felt about that recording on his website of fly me to the moon. something went far wrong & i wished he would just remove it- but at the kings- how redeeming! he performed it perfectly, as with most things he does . i hope all of you who have yet to go, have a great time- next- 'SNOWHITE' for me & my daughter- now i know i' ve lost the plot! Thanks again for all your efforts to keep me up to date here at library. regards jeanette.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think everyone I've talked to preferred the 2nd half. Next part of the tour is NOT confirmed for Darius yet. We'll have to be patient

I'd agree about the first half. Not enough Darius, and he was performing in the style of a band vocalist of those eras. They wouldn't have needed any glitter if he'd let his own sparkle out to play.

I personally enjoyed the first half far less than the second but in saying that, all the comments I heard around me at the interval were positive . Darius sang beautifully all the way through.

When D's had funny lines in MT, his timing and delivery has been terrific. He can put great meaning into tiny phrases or even one word

"Indeed, not yours" (GWTW) "Wonderful!(Guys and Dolls)

I'm sure others will have their own favourites.

I'm hoping that the Prince will get some good comedy lines in Snow White.

OK, you tempted me - booked - so all things being OK, - we will be attending! those seats were just calling me.

See you Monday :D

PIP, those seats weren't restricted view. It's hard to understand why some are left sometimes.

I had my camera but didn't have a chance to use it. The foyer was heaving when I went to pick up my ticket and it was mayhem when I got down from the upper circle. Was Darius sitting down? Usually I just look for the tallest person.

He was standin up, I actually went up stood at top of the stairs just watched the mayhem! lol x
