October 29, 201014 yr Why couldn't they have just advertised the show and answered the phones? Making it really hard to get tickets and really hard to be able to book them as well is not the way to go. I hope the staff who deal with customers are more on the ball. Nothing can ruin a theatre visit more quickly than unhelpful staff.
October 29, 201014 yr Yes, The New London Theatre impressed me by how helpful the staff was. It made going there a really pleasant experience.
October 30, 201014 yr I wonder what kind of songs Darius will sing tonight. It'll be a mixed audience too. Presumably he'll use his guitar and backing tracks. His new ones, Fever and Feeling Good would suit the less inhibited audience. He should also throw in things like Love To Love and slow it down with Mercury Rising, Big Feather Bed, No More etc. and Nessun Dorma and the original Colourblind to singalong to.
October 30, 201014 yr I wonder if he'll do the two sets again. I'd like the accoustic set now. I hope someone who goes reports back
October 30, 201014 yr After all that,I'm so glad all seemed to go very well on the night at Manchester. The one good thing about the mess and the consequent reduced codes is that the latter often bring in a more random audience and catch the switherers too. For example those who were holding out for a proper 'Darius' show and/or who simply don't like that style of music normally. Even I was quite prepared to let it pass this time because I really don't like brass bands for more than a couple of numbers at a time. I'm the same with pipe bands. Also the reverse, people who do like Big Band & swing and either didn't fancy a popstar doing it, Darius specifically, or those who'd never heard of Darius Campbell.
October 30, 201014 yr Well, after all that worry, it was a brilliant night, the best I've been to. I know it wouldn't be very profitable for them, having had to give seats away, but it was a great atmosphere and the theatre was heaving. Everyone seemed up for a good night out (probably free!) and Darius didn't disappoint, he had the audience eating out of his hands and both he and the orchestra were on top form. His voice was just fantastic and I'm sure that even if you weren't a fan when you went in to the theatre you would be one by the time you left. Avril and Booth, and their party, were in the seats in front of us and they videoed part of the performance and also managed a few pictures, although the staff were on the ball preventing people from doing so. Booth looked really well. Darius also sang 'That's Why The Lady Is a Tramp' last night and said it was a one off special for Manchester, but to be honest he's sung it before hasn't he? The signings afterwards were a bit of a 'free for all' at first. I think the staff hadn't expected so many people would want to meet Darius, so hadn't organised anything. Eventually they got things sorted into some kind of queue and he was his usual charming self. A really enjoyable night and it was good to meet you Gilly if only for a short time. Sue
October 30, 201014 yr sounds great, darius sang the lady is a tramp at woking, he didnt at st albans..the first show, in fact he sang a few less on the first show, so glad i go to go again. lovely that it was heaving..even if it wasnt as profitable, people got to see him,and get to hear him sing- and super that loads waited to meet him after.
October 30, 201014 yr He may have changed the arrangement of the song for Manchester. Just 2 more gigs and it's over. Then we wait again until the wind stops blowing and Darius tells us what his next project is. Will the gusts turn the signpost again in another new exciting and different direction or will he continue this most successful project? IMHO he isn't near exhausting the current tour and it offers a lot of scope, plenty of challenges and innovation for its star/co-producer. Lots of people have built whole careers on something similar although I know Darius could never settle to do the same, or virtually the same, for years on end. I really, really hope that if he does turn to pastures new, he'll release both a DVD, a second volume of the HOTBB and a new Darius album including songs from the show. October 30, 201014 yr so do i, as you say this sort of tour is something performers did all the time, its a niche that needs filling, proper music other than pop...i really want that dvd and cds though.
October 30, 201014 yr Talking to Brian Hill last night there's definately going to be another Big Bands Tour and like Meg said, they're just waiting to confirm dates with Darius. Next time around it's going to be 'bigger and better', because they feel that there's so much they can do to improve on the existing format. Sounds like it's going to be something really special. Sue
October 30, 201014 yr oh that sounds marvellous! looking forward to going to some next year, all going well -
October 30, 201014 yr Come on, Darius! Stop playing hard to get. :nocheer: and remember you have Welsh and Irish fans too.
October 30, 201014 yr Well after all the worry, the theatre was absolutely packed last night!! Darius was amazing and sang wonderfully. I was very pleased to see that he hasn't forgotten how to move - memories of the Dive In tour with his hip action!! Everyone really enjoyed the show and the atmosphere was great. (Must say I particularly enjoyed the hug afterwards! ) Lovely to see you too Sue.
October 30, 201014 yr Hmm. I'll ponder on that. Can I give the Scottish verdict - Not Proven - for the moment?
