September 23, 201014 yr Thanks, megham. I hope yesterday's slip of the tongue on LW didn't prey on D's mind and upset him for the show in Buxton last night. I can't think that it would BT. Hello by the way :hi:
September 23, 201014 yr Darius was in fine fettle last night at Buxton, his voice as velvety smooth as ever, a joy to hear. The Opera House is a very old theatre, beautifully decorated with gold carvings on walls and ceiling. The stalls were full but I couldn't see the circle and gallery. There were people buying the last few seats at the box office as we went in. Apparently this theatre sells any remaining seats at the last minute for £5. It was great to meet Sue, - another member I can now put a face to. We had to dash off at the end, but Darius was out front ready to sign programmes etc. During the show D. dedicated a couple of songs to his Aunt and Uncle who were out front. I wasn't enamoured of the dancer, but I think she was appreciated by the males in the audience ( which was largely composed of older people). D sang his new songs at the end. I prefer the original version of Colourblind, but the others sounded great with the big band backing.
September 23, 201014 yr Thanks, Bramley. I'm not old enough to know if the dancing stuff was part and parcel of the swing era. I can only recall seeing female vocalists on TV with some Big Bands much later on, and they erred on the side of primly sweet.
September 23, 201014 yr Thanks, Bramley. That's good to hear. It's a shame you didn't get a chance to talk to him. I think I'd have been happier with the dancer if she danced. Those swing Big Band Songs are great for dancing.
September 23, 201014 yr We did meet D before the show and he looks really well and fit again. He's a great guy. BT, this puzzles me too. I must google the history of burlesque.
September 23, 201014 yr I remember my Dad dragging us out of the theatre in disgust when a lady who performed in the same way appeared in a family variety show. He complained to the theatre management as did many others as they felt it was most unsuitable. I don't suppose I helped calm him down when I started trying to make tassels swing round when I danced. Not that I had anything to put them on at that time. Just adding, this lady did not swing tassels around but did undress, although she showed very little and nothing you don't see every day in adverts and things. September 23, 201014 yr I seem to remember some undressing in Guys and Dolls - not Darius, though he looked very hot fully dressed in 'Havana'! Edited September 23, 201014 yr by Baytree
September 23, 201014 yr As children we were taken every week to our local variety show but there was never any burlesque dancing, just the chorus girls line-up.
September 23, 201014 yr That's what my parents were expecting,BT. The undressing in GUYS and Dolls meant I took my then 12 yr old up to the circle to watch rather than having her nearer the stage, where she prefers to be. You didn't get the flash of bare boobs up there.

September 23, 201014 yr You don't remember the girls performing "Take back your mink" ? Ah, nope  Actually, now I think of it, I can remember very little of the show other than genuinely believing that Darius' character had fallen in love  and Magda's lovely frilly skirt :naughty:
September 23, 201014 yr I can practically replay every one of Darius's scenes like a mini-movie in my head. However, what I did most recently or where I put my keys, I can't recall. Should I be worried? I'm so glad Buxton went well and that Darius's fans had a chance to meet with him however briefly. There's a fair break before his next gig at the rugby finals on 2nd October. Hope he gets a chance to rest up and look after himself. Edited September 23, 201014 yr by Baytree
September 23, 201014 yr Author So glad Buxton went well and you enjoyed it :) Looking forward to the next time I go. Are you going to Glasgow BT?
September 23, 201014 yr Maybe, maybe not. Depends if I'm here or in Northern Ireland. Even I don't know which, as yet.
September 23, 201014 yr There's a professional video coming out. I'm looking forward to that. I'm hoping cd 2 has more than the three Darius tracks that cd1 has.
September 23, 201014 yr I am really looking forward to a professional DVD!! and CD2 - and I too hope there may be more than three Darius tracks on it.

I was impressed with Buxton, never been before and the theatre was beautiful, like something from a different era, and perfect for the show. I think the circle must have been quite full as well as the stalls from the amount of people in the bars etc. Definately an older audience though. Everyone seemed to enjoy the show, listening to the various comments and there was a very long queue for the signings at the end. Darius kept coming out and apologizing for keeping people waiting and encouraging everybody to squash into the foyer so we wouldn't have to stand outside(typical Darius!) I loved the show, the musicians were so talented and Darius, well, Darius was Darius, his voice was so rich and suited the songs so well, and he linked everthing together in his usual charming manner, but doesn't he sweat, at first I wondered if something was wrong! As for the new songs, brilliant with the big band backing, and even loved the swing version of Colourblind. Sue
September 23, 201014 yr Forgot to say how great the pictures are Paul and to wish you a belated :birthday:. The only thing wrong in Buxton was husband forgot the camera(that's all he had to remember!) so we ended up buying one of those cheap disposable ones. Goodness knows how they will turn out. Sue
September 23, 201014 yr sounds great, although Darius didnt seem to sweat that much at St Albans, perhaps off stage he was getting wiped off! though it has been close the last few days. It was an lder audience at th eshow we saw too, but then again that makes sense as younger people probably arent drawn to a big band per say, OH was commenting that there isnt that much around for the older person like this - saying that dairus could find a ncihe as the good swing singers/crooners are all dead or getting old
