Posted July 3, 201015 yr Most government departments are being asked to produce "illustrative plans" for spending cuts of up to 40%. The Treasury wants departmental heads to set out how they would cut spending by both 25% and 40% by the end of July. But education and defence have been given some protection from the worst of the cuts, and will have to draw up plans for cuts of 10% and 20%. Health will continue to have small rises in its budget, and international aid is also protected. Swingeing Cuts I trust they'll opt to pursue the more aggressive cuts and relieve the unacceptable burden on the tax payer. The coalition must be applauded for looking at further cuts to the defunct welfare state, to ease the pain on other departments, as this is a role better served by charitable foundations.

July 4, 201015 yr Am I the only one who can see through Ethan? He's a wind-up merchant. I think this is the first (and will be the last) time that I've contributed to a thread that he has 'commented' on. Ignore him. Norma
July 4, 201015 yr Author wheres the money coming from for the charitable foundations? You incentivize the creation of such foundations, it works well in the USA. Am I the only one who can see through Ethan? He's a wind-up merchant. I think this is the first (and will be the last) time that I've contributed to a thread that he has 'commented' on. I had assumed you were a 'mature adult' capable of respecting other people’s opinions, even if you passionately disagree with them, however your appeal to ridicule seems to suggest otherwise…
July 4, 201015 yr So much for Cameron saying "Our cuts are equivalent to only 1p out of every pound in the economy" then! I think it's beyond disgraceful tthe way they're raping the public sector, the lack of waste in the private secttor really did the banks a lot of good didn't it?
July 4, 201015 yr You incentivize the creation of such foundations, it works well in the USA. How do you incentivise it? We already have tax relief at your top rate for charitable donations. Isn't that enough?
July 4, 201015 yr The most amusing thing about morons like Ethan is that they've said in the past they detest welfare "scroungers", and yet also demand massive public sector job cuts! Where the hell do they think these "scroungers" are going to be able to find work if jobs are being PULLED?! I just have to keep telling myself we've only got 1 or 2 years of these jokers in office before they'll be ousted.
July 4, 201015 yr I just have to keep telling myself we've only got 1 or 2 years of these jokers in office before they'll be ousted. How do you reckon they'll be ousted though when the Coalition has a decent majority in the Commons?
July 4, 201015 yr How do you reckon they'll be ousted though when the Coalition has a decent majority in the Commons? It's a matter of time before the Lib Dems pull out. If the AV referendum fails, they'll have got absolutely NOTHING out of the Coalition.
July 4, 201015 yr It's a matter of time before the Lib Dems pull out. If the AV referendum fails, they'll have got absolutely NOTHING out of the Coalition. They won't pull out. Ministerial salaries, cars, and all the perks means they'll stay-put. Would YOU pull out? ;)
July 4, 201015 yr They won't pull out. Ministerial salaries, cars, and all the perks means they'll stay-put. Would YOU pull out? ;) If I'd joined a party which is supposed to be social-democratic, and then proceeded to actively prop up a Thatcherite government, then yes, I would pull out. These people are going to be scared $h!tless of getting kicked out of their jobs (as MPs) at the next election, and, in the likely event that this government's support plummets when the cuts hit and the econmy dips back into recession, the Lib Dems MPs will know that the best chance of saving their seat is if they sever ties with Cameron et al. They're not stupid. I actually think it's very feasible we could see the Lib Dems split in two before long, with the majority of decent, left-leaning MPs (led possibly by Cable) ditching the government, and the economic right-wing of the party (Clegg, Laws, Alexander) clinging to the Tories like the weasels they are.
July 4, 201015 yr You incentivize the creation of such foundations, it works well in the USA. I had assumed you were a 'mature adult' capable of respecting other people’s opinions, even if you passionately disagree with them, however your appeal to ridicule seems to suggest otherwise… I was merely suggesting that your posts seem of a deliberate, almost antagonistic nature. A little like Crazy Chris used to post but without the humour. Either that or you're a prat! Norma Edit - Ethan I apologise - there is no excuse at all for me name-calling. I do think you're posts are antagonistic though - but I just don't take them seriously. Edited July 4, 201015 yr by Norma_Snockers
July 4, 201015 yr They won't pull out. Ministerial salaries, cars, and all the perks means they'll stay-put. Would YOU pull out? ;) of course they will.... mps are ELECTED on their manifesto so rather then compromise what they were elected for, theyd pull out IF the compromise was too much. at least acting with integrity towards their voters should ensure their re-election.
July 5, 201015 yr of course they will.... mps are ELECTED on their manifesto so rather then compromise what they were elected for, theyd pull out IF the compromise was too much. at least acting with integrity towards their voters should ensure their re-election. Mark Thomas once said that all election manifesto pledges should be legally binding. I agree with him 100%.. As for Ethan, he is coming across as a Crazy Chris- style prat tbh.. 40% cuts in govt depts is not cutting away "waste", frontline services are bound to be affected. This is not acceptable to me, nor should it be to any Lib Dem MP who stood on a platform of being against such cuts. And they ALL did (they also stood on a platform of being opposed to rises in VAT) . Or are the Fib Dems so utterly devoid of any kind of principle that they'll just act like the political equivalent of whores?

Where the hell do they think these "scroungers" are going to be able to find work if jobs are being PULLED?! Exactly... But I guess one could see it as a cynical ploy by the Government... I mean, it's probably cheaper to have people rot on the dole for the rest of their working lives than it is to keep them in work and be productive... Yep, it's back to Thatcherite policies and millions on the dole with no hope and no future.... Well, that's what you get when you vote fukkin' TORY innit...? That and legislation against minorities of course (which I'm sure is on the cards sooner or later seeing as how we have a homophobic bigot as "Equality Minister")... <_< I just hope Nick Clegg can actually live with himself for doing his little "Faustian deal"....
July 5, 201015 yr Do you all know that it's going to cost the UK over £19 million in costs for the Pope's visit in September? Can't get the link to post but in the Telegraph it says costs were originally estimated at £15m but Cameron's personally pledged "at least another £4 million" of Taxpayers money to "ensure everything goes smoothly" When cuts are being made is this really necessary? Shouldn't they have tried to REDUCE the cost? Edited July 5, 201015 yr by Common Sense
July 5, 201015 yr You incentivize the creation of such foundations, it works well in the USA. Er, except it doesn't whatsoever? The USA is THE most unequal major state in the Western world, and the fact that social security is mainly privatised and a lot of it is charitable is a main contributing factor. I've long since concluded that you have no morals whatsoever. A disgusting self-concerned creature who can't see beyond his own wallet.

A pretty disgusting use of funds, considering the Tories have made a song and dance out of gerrymandering 10% of the MPs (mainly in Labour areas) out of the Commons to save £12 million!
July 5, 201015 yr What exactly is the £19m going to be SPENT on? Surely in terms of accommodation, he can stay in one of the fancy government-owned properties like Admiralty House, which shouldn't cost a cent* *this is assuming Old Benny wouldn't be satisfied with a Travelodge. :teresa: Edited July 5, 201015 yr by Danny
