Well I am a queer yush but I love a lot of male artists. However, these are usually part of a group. I think solo males either specialise in RnB/Hip Hop which is not my favourite genre and which is obviously hated by a lot of people on BuzzJack or they are bland singers aimed at the housewife market like Ronan Keating.

Female artists and groups are FAR better.

Plus BJ does this loonage fandom thing with female artists. I bet you anything if we had a more diverse memberbase and more women [especially younger girls] there would be a lot more JLS lovin' on this site :P

WOO I love stupid comments! :cheer:

Hmm lets see. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Claption, James Brown, Bob Dylan, Prince, Elvis Presley, Freddy Mercury, Frank Sinatra, Chuck Berry, Michael Jackson, B.B. King, Mick Jagger/Keith Richards, David Bowie, Marvin Gaye,...

Just a few notable MALE artists which have changed the face of music. Let's be serious here. Apart from females such as Aretha Franklin and possibly Madonna, there is no other female musician who has been able to reach the critical acclaim of the above. ^

I don't think his comment was stupid.

Those you have listed are completely irrelevant, they do not sell millions of records anymore.

Plus, you can always argue that they were successful at a time where women weren't taken as seriously as they should have been.

Therefore they weren't accepted in male dominated eras, women just simply weren't given the chance to be an 'artist'.

The female singers from those era's were just that... singers.

Shadow2009 was just answering the question that was first posted.

He pointed out all the current, leading female acts in comparison to the very lackluster 'list' of relevant male acts.

Okay lets see. From what I can see in the current YTD T40 Albums list, taking away bands/groups [i.e. 'Glee Cast'], I make it 11 male acts to 7 female acts that fill the top 20. You also state that some of the artists I've listed are irrelevant, yet a lot of the artists I've included in my list compile the majority of the highest grossing worldwide tours of 2009 [which in these days are deemed more important than single/album sales].

Fact is the music industry was and still is more dominated by males than females. I'm not being sexist, it's just fact. Where do the majority of the biggest selling females of the 21st Century get their hits from? Ohhh errr.. males isn't it?

Yes, we know it's a male-dominated year.

When I said they were irrelevant, I was referring to their genre. Most people on here like pop music.

You're talking on a general scale, the question was 'why are females popular on buzzjack?' and Shadow listed all of the hugely popular female pop acts that, in my opinion, gives the exact reason.

I think it has also something to do with the age of the members. No offence so don't get me wrong, younger members are sometimes too enthusiastic towards their fave acts, so they can exaggerate a bit. I was like that when I was 16-18-20 years old. I don't see a problem with that, just older members should respect this too, but younger members should respect also the opinions of the older members because their view to the music and music industry is sometimes different. :)

I know that was too general, but this is also one side of the coin.

Oh yes, that is definately true too- there are many teens who feel strongly about music (iloons this is clear :kink:) but there are people like this and its ashame when they exaggerate as usually its totally OTT :( , the older members and mods on this website seem to have a far wider taste in music

I would say females are currently ahead of males in solo artists as there are artists like Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Britney Spears, Kylie and Madonna to name a few

however, males are clearly better with bands/groups- Beatles, Queen, Oasis, Coldplay, Muse, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, Metallica, Nirvana, Radiohead to name a few :P

the only great female group currently is Girls Aloud, and while male groups like Westlife arent great quality, you cant deny their success

so females do not dominate music totally

Ohhh okay. Well tbh I don't really know why female acts are more popular on BJ then male acts.

I just generally prefer a female singing voice. It's not to say I don't like some male singers though, I love the likes of Ne-Yo, Tinchy Stryder, Jason DeRulo, Usher, Taio Cruz, Lemar, Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, Flo Rida, Fallout Boy and some others too but they're off the top of my head. It just comes down to the quality of the music at the end of the day and currently females are making music more appealing to me.

i like both

and you should notice some men are appearing as groups like WestLife

^_^

I think it's because Buzzjack is less fond of rapping than the general public. Most rappers are male, and a high proportion of males are rappers, so by extension, Buzzjack will probably like males singers less than females.

There are exceptions though. Songs such as Ridin' Solo, Nothin' On You, Wavin' Flag, etc. have been quite well-received by the forum.

Plus, many of my friends at school only like songs by male artists. Like one of my friends was horrified when I told him that I liked Rihanna and Beyonce songs, so he listed about 30 good artists that I should listen too, saying that he thinks my younger sisters are having too much influence on me, musically. I looked at the list, and I noticed that the list was basically all males. I pointed this out to him, and he was like "I'm not sexist. Honestly. Like, I think there's a female drummer in one of the groups."

I think I'm about 50:50, although I've not really conciously taken a count. However, most of the songs I listen to are female vocalist plus male rapper, so I think it would be about half and half.

I think at this moment in time, female acts are dominating. The main male acts are the rap/hip-hop ones and I hate those genres and I consider them soulless.

I like female acts like Beyonce, Christina, Leona and Alexandra but then I also like male acts like Michael Jackson, Enrique, JT, Ne-Yo and Bruno Mars.

Looking at the chart, I can't see many male acts I like but I can see quite a few females. Maybe they are more mainstream?

As for BuzzJack in general, maybe it's not a rap/hip-hop place. It's more Pop orientated where female acts are dominant.

No Disrespect.. But maybe many of the Buzzjack Users are Homosexual? So they prefer Female Artists..

Although embarassley i love Miley Cyrus (A) But i'm into Rap Music(B.O.B, Eminem, Travie McCoy)

I'm gay but i listen to males now mostly, 33/40 songs in my current chart are male-led. However i used to be into females, only like 1.5 years ago :o But everything changes!

Probably also coz they make sexier videos as well so people will buy the song if its catchy etc plus also the producer are probably male & gay 2 so know wot sells. Pink pound etc something poppy/dancey/chessey a great hook of a chorus & a interesting/sexy video with hot guys in perhaps & the artist looking sexy 2 it will sell to gay population as well as appeal to the straight community so becomes more poplular its a winning formula Name one MALE artist who does all that ( ok has sexy women in his video then minus rappers & looks hot on video 2)

Ya cant i rest case. SEX SELLS as well as a good catchy/pop song as well

I only have one male singer/act on my ipod and that is The Killers/Brandon Flowers and surpirsingly i am actually straight :o

Female acts are just better

90-95% of the music on my iPod is also by female artists.

I'm gay - and I seem to be able to keep in check my like for both male and female artists.

It is quite irratating on here though - if someone has a catchy song and a fanny then you are gauranteed Buzzjack will love it

Of course, the vast majority of Buzzjack posters seem to be male, so...

I think some of the love for female artists on this website goes too far, there are some pretty average songs by females like All Night Long and California Gurls, yet people act like they are the standard of Bohemian Rhapsody, and there are VERY few male songs that get universal love on BJ

I like both male and female artists equally- however, BJ cant deny that males have sang some of the greatest songs of all time- Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Angels, One and Smells Like Teen Spirit are all sang by male artists

I dont necessarily have a problem with this, but on such 'Record of the decade', 'number 1 of the noughties' polls- BJ's love for females make it completely invalid and that is depressing

As to why this is, Im not sure why- but they are obviously appealing in some way

In my case, the kind of music I prefer, tends to have more female performers than males - pop, dance, easy-listening - and testosterone does the rest. :P

There's also the fact that songs by male artists in many genres are geared to appeal to females, so they're obviously going to have limited appeal to other males.

Interesting topic

I have noticed that when a man sings or raps a dirty r&b/hip hop single, people find it strange and embarrassing but when a female sings "ooh big boy give it to me give it to me aaah" with no clothes on it's suddenly brilliant.

Also Justin Bieber (again lol): If he was a girl, everyone here would love his music. Did people here like JoJo and Stacie Orrico? They were pretty much the same.

I don't see how this year is the year of male.

10 out of 16 #1s this year have had a male vocal lead, Gettin' Over You was mainly credited to a male although contains mostly female vocals, Everybody Hurts contained a lot of both gender. Only 4 (the two GaGa singles, Diana and Katy) this year were proper female songs (and Katy's song features a male, although with that you can take away Good Times and... uh... nothing else from the males list).

Whatever way you look at it, 2010's music industry has been dominated by males.

Agreed

But go to indie forum and there are people who equally love males, females and groups. I think it's also genre-related

As far as rock music go, btw, a group might be the standard. I know people that can tolerate only bands lead by male vocalist. So pop fans might have the same with female singers/groups and it has not much to do with sexuality.

Also is there a gayer band than Rammstein? Yet straight males like them. :P

Also, a few weeks ago, there was a top 10 on iTunes that was all male, which is probably a very rare occurance.

Firstly, sexuality has nothing to do with it.

Secondly, it really isnt that important to have a debate over, people can like whoever they like, male or female, really doesnt matter.

The thing is... let's take a look at the last.fm charts.

This is the main chart of the whole site:

1 Lady Gaga

2 The Beatles

3 Muse

4 Radiohead

5 Coldplay

6 Eminem

7 Red Hot Chili Peppers

8 Metallica

9 Nirvana

10 Gorillaz

11 The Killers

12 Green Day

13 Linkin Park

14 Michael Jackson

15 Pink Floyd

16 Kings of Leon

17 MGMT

18 Black Eyed Peas

19 Queen

20 Arctic Monkeys.

And now let's look at the G-A-Y group there which has more than 3k members there so it's representative.

1 Lady Gaga

2 Kylie Minogue

3 Christina Aguilera

4 Madonna

5 Britney Spears

6 Rihanna

7 Katy Perry

8 Beyoncé

9 Ke$ha

10 Miley Cyrus

13 Scissor Sisters

14 Glee Cast

I'm not saying anything, I just provide some statistics... :)
