The gay thing is a huge factor. Looking at the music message boards on non-music gay sites reveals Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burk, Lady Gaga, Kylie, Madonna, Christina, Britney...
Females rule music.

Aside from Michael Jackson there's not really been any worldwide massive male superstars, whereas with females you've got Mariah/Whitney/Celine who are fondly talked about and then you have Madonna who is the most famous woman in the world, you've got Christina/Beyonce/Pink who've had massive careers and are still at a young age, Shakira is huge in the Latin world and is still churning out hits after all these years (aside from the last flop album), Rihanna is only like 21 and has had tons fo #1's over the world and is one of the most popular female acts we have right now everything she touches is a hit, Leona Lewis got that worldwide smash debut and along with Alexandra Burke and Kelly Clarkson are the most succesful talent show winners of recent times, Kylie has had a 20 year+ career and her songs are still zooming into the top 10, Alicia Keys has been going for almost 10 years and has sold millions of albums across the globe......and then you have acts like Ke$ha and Katy Perry who appear from nowhere with lengthly #1's in America and suddenly they're superstars after one single.

Male acts? I'd say only Eminem and to a lesser extent Usher have had longterm worldwide success. The majority of males in the music industry are either rappers (who can easily be mistaken for eachother and who's role could easily be filled by any other rapper) or are fronting bands. Enrique Iglesias is maybe the only actual SINGER who can keep his success after just a few singles.

So when you kind of look at how succesful the females are it's no wonder how Buzzjack are so adoring of them.

I kind of agree with most of this and maybe in part female acts do tend to get alot more media coverage which may help in pushing up their popularity. For me personally I prefer female vocals only because there seems to very few even good male singers prominent in the charts. There are no Luther Vandrosses, Stevie Wonders and even Micheal Boltons. Male singers who sing with emotion and have a good range.Sure there is Micheal Buble and Paolo Nutini but they are rather dry. My favorite male singers are people like Ruben Studdard,Maxwell, Lemar and Robin Thicke who have good vocals but are not setting the charts alight.Even the female singers I like it is purely based on the quality of their voices not image and looks.

Girl bands not that massive nowadays anyway, I think the last single by a girl band that charted in the UK was the Sugababes' Wear My Kiss and that was in February... the rest that have released any stuff since then have all failed to crack the british top 100.
Because females are often associated with pop and Rnb, the most popular genres on BJ, and the charts too. Males are associated with rock/indie bands and rap music, less popular.

So is that what people in Buzzjack want? Emotive singers?

Most male performers don't get into creating music to create emotive, vocally accomplished music. They just want to make music. You'll find that if you look at bands it's 75%+ male orientated because men get together to make music whereas females do it on their own mostly because they trying to create different things. As a result there are more female solo singers than male.

The Buzzjack situation has reached a sort of tipping point where if you are new to the site and don't prefer female singers you might not stay when faced with the overwhelming preference and loonage over women But if you do like females you'll stay and so the site gets even more female biased.

I always thought girls went it alone because they bitch too much [sugababes anyone?].

TBH I think male artists are appreciated a lot more on here than people give them credit before. I just think people that like those sorts of artists can control themselves and not act like complete r*t**** everytime they have a single out or a song move up 3 places in the iTunes thread.

There. Male singer. Emotion. <3
