I agree that P!nk is the Queen of Pop-Rock (without any doubt at all since it's not such a popular genre as it was 5 years ago) but I wouldn't say Avril is second! I know her last album was still big and she had two big hit singles but she's been away quite a while and she seems to be widely disliked nowadays. I'd say Kelly Clarkson is second in command for Queen of Pop-Rock. Once upon a time it would've been Anastacia of course but we all know what happened there.

Have to agree 100% with that, even though it pains me.

Not really. Have JLS had an instant worldwide impact on music and the creative arts?

Thats not a fair comparison, in South London they have.

I dont know about pop but the queen of music is someone who pushes the frontiers - someone like Bjork or Kate Bush.

I'm sorry, but Gaga is not that creative. Take away her fashion (that is most probably dictated by her style team) and what do we have?

She's nothing than a Gwen knock off.

We still have Just Dance, Pokerface and Bad Romance. Great pop songs.

She does do ballads, she just doesn't release them.
Speechless is amazing :o You'd have to listen to them to base your opinion, they divide fans somewhat
It's interesting how you consider 'Telephone' an "absolutely massive hit" yet 'Just Dance' not so. :o

Just Dance was a huge-seller, and actually is still one of my favourtes by her, but I think it faded from public consciousness relatively quickly. OTOH, Poker Face, Bad Romance and Telephone have all had HUGE cultural impacts and will I think be remembered as defining hits of this era of music. Britney's only had two songs ever that have reached that level of cultural impact - BOMT and Toxic.

OIDIA created a lot of impact for Britney, it is the song where everyone called her pop princess and is the most Britney song.

It's not on the same level as "...Baby One More Time" but I would actually put it on a level with "Toxic" ^_^

Oops I Did It Again is easily another one for Britney.

It is hard to determine what will be remembered when all of these songs have been released in the past year. Britney has had many huge hits, but only 3 are still substantially remembered by most of the public.

Which is a good number considering some of her material is almost 12 years old, and all of GaGa's music has been released within the past two, so of course the majority of her singles will still be remembered.

I think Madonna is and has been the Queen of Pop for the last 20 years. None of the others that have been named in this thread come close to her, in my opinion.

Kylie could've been the next Queen of Pop if she continued her worldwide success a la "Fever" days. Now-a-days her success is limited to Australia and Europe I guess. Of course she does have legendary hits like Can't Get You Out Of My Head, I Should Be So Lucky and Confide In Me.

Lady Gaga is just beginning in the industry, she's huge now but we still have to see more of her. I don't see her as very innovative, to be frank, as everything she does, Madonna has already done it and also she hasn't really improved musically in the last two years (to me Poker Face and Bad Romance sound quite the same). From all of her songs that have been named in this thread, I only see Poker Face and Bad Romance as the ones that will be deemed legendary in 5/10 years time, but she's still have a lot to offer and lots of material to release. Her next album will be quite defining.

Britney Spears is also another female that could be the next Queen of Pop, in my opinion. She was huge in 1999-2002, her success declined after that but she still managed to release the quintessential record Toxic and is incredibly relevant now-a-days, even after a public meltdown and a huge lack of credibility (lipsynching, media frenzy, no apparent involvement in her records, lack of talent for some). Her new record will also be defining for her, Circus was supposed to be her back-to-form comeback album but it still was all lackluster, and even when people understood she was (and still is) recovering from mental illness, the new album will have to be the most amazing record of the year and she'll have to get the spark back.

It's Madonna c'mon!

She's been around for over 25 years. She's had more number ones than must female acts out together both old & New. She's always changing her music. I could go on forever.

LOL. How? They're both blonde and called Stefani, but that's where the comparisons end. Both do completely different kinds of music, aside from a few vaguely similar in style songs on The Fame - which The Fame Monster shows GaGa's clearly moved away from.

It's interesting for me personally seeing many people say Kylie Minogue has/had the potential to be Queen of Pop. I guess it just doesn't register for me since she hasn't had very much success or exposure here in the US besides her early stuff and the Fever era. Though, internationally I can definitely see why people would consider her because of her longevity and success with singles and albums seen throughout her career.

I don't think anyone can say Lady GaGa is a Queen of Pop. Sure, she has had a great bit of success over the past few years but that could really be anyone. It just depends if an artist can stick around or is able to successfully recover from an unsuccessful/rough patch in their career.

For me I think of Madonna as Queen of Pop and more or less Britney as Princess of Pop. Maybe not so much lately because of Britney's rough patch and all and her not being like she once was in the highlight of her career. But a lot of successful artists have those rough patches and the true test is whether they bounce back from that or not.
