The tracklisting for the album looks slightly pretentious... still, "The Catalyst" is growing on me ^_^

They have definitely peaked quality-wise, somewhere in [Hybrid Theory] or Meteora eras. This song is alright judging by the snippet though...
Not sure whether I like The Catalyst that much...but it's still early on

yeah tbh im in love with The Catalyst.
Guys, I really, really hate to break it to you but this album is going to be out of control awful.

Explain?

Explain?

Linkin Park have completely lost their way. They've changed style totally, and not for the best either - they've instead decided to clone whatever is popular at the moment.

Anybody who thinks 'The Catalyst' sounds anything like Linkin Park is deluding themselves.

it's not exactly going with the popular sound - if anything they've gone away from that, Minutes was pretty eclectic and A Thousand Suns (going by the tracklisting and "The Catalyst") sounds like the antithesis of anything that's popular in 2010. If they get big success in this era I'll be over the bloody moon.

Linkin Park always have (and always will) make music that has the emotional depth of a teaspoon. Take a look at their fanbase; it's filled with 10-14 year old kids who make AMVs with their songs because they think they are "dark" and "deep" and "speak to them" but really it's just various songs about papercuts, bleeding, RAGE, feeling misunderstood, and other $h!t like that and it does it in the most unartistic, boring, and insipid way possible (and for being so 'misunderstood' their music is surprisingly pop-oriented, manufactured, and clearly made for the masses).

Like, seriously, I find it so incredibly bizarre that there are people over the age of 15 who still listen to this band. I figured most people would outgrow them like I did (when I was like...you know, 13 lawlz, I used to be in a Linkin Park guild on Neopets becuase I was THAT COOL).

I mean if you find this music intriguing and worthwhile than by all means, but come on...take a real hard look at Linkin Park's fanbase and it sort of just highlights what I'm getting at. They're unintellectual pop nu-metal or whatever the f*** you wanna call it, but it's just bad music. And I owned Meteora / whatever their first album was called so I actually know enough of their music to really say I know what I'm talking about it haha.

Linkin Park are on the same level as like...Nickelback / Creed / Limp Bizkit in my opinion, music just so dull and awful with such terrible fanbases that, even though music is (obviously) subjective, it's hard not to judge.

:kink:

seriously though i like Linkin Park for the old times same reason i crack out 'All Killer No Filler' by Sum 41 every 2 years (i still know all the words ). but i get where your coming from as you could just changed 'Linkin Park' to 'Green Day' and really sums up what I say to everyone around our age who likes Green Day, and its like Green Day were my favourite band I know enough about them, they are pure $h!te.

Oh yeah for nostalgic purposes even I can enjoy them LOL; I mean I'll listen to some older like pop/indie/rock $h!t that I used to love (Imogen Heap / Sum 41 / Simple Plan / Green Day you know the type) songs and whatnot and be like AW YEA, but like I know what I'm listening to is bad / childish haha. But like the fact that they still are making music saddens me, and I have literally no desire to listen to it now that I've grown older.

I remember when I used to say "GREEN DAY WERE SO MUCH BETTER BEFORE AMERICAN IDIOT" and whatnot lolololol omg I was such a TOOL.

tbh Rick Rubin produces their albums, makes it worth listening to me, and I think that they at least put a fair bit of effort into their songwriting and recording compared to your common generic mainstream rock band.

tbh they were, but that doesnt change the fact they were $h!t before American Idiot, they just became even worse with it lol. what annoys me most is that Green Day still market themselves as punk yet sold out in 1994. really makes me laugh how now they are like "LOOK HOW REBELLIOUS AND ANTI-AMERICAN WE ARE WITH ALL OUR MILLIONS"

I dunno, never been much of a fan of Rick Rubin at all actually. I feel like, at least for sure 2000 - 2010, he produced far more $h!t albums than good ones (the only good ones coming to mind are FutureSex/LoveSounds, the Johnny Cash ones, Jay-Z, Saul Williams, etc.) Like beyond those, he's just done $h!t for like System of a Down, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and it's just like...lololk Rick Rubin.

I know they do write their own songs and whatnot, which I clearly respect and it's one of the reason the pop/mainstream music industry annoys me so much. But for me, a good 99% of the music I listen to, the bands write their own music, so using that as an excuse doesn't really fly haha. Whether they wrote it or not, those are still some awfully terrible lyrics and production.

LOL, yeah they were but it's just such a tool thing to say. Makes you seem like your taste in music = fashion and it makes you more 'cool' if you like early Green Day but not new Green Day when it all sucks.

I think it's relatively impossible for any band that charts so highly to be 'punk' lolol, I wouldn't even call them pop-punk. They're just pop rock, and tbh they really always have been lawlz. If your music is radio friendly and charts well and sells well, chances are it's just pop music. Which isn't a bad thing, but if you're giving off an image like Green Day does (/ countless other bands who I shall not name) it's just a little SAD. If I was John Lydon, I'd be weeping for the current status of punk music.

that wasnt really my point, probaly 100% of the bands i listen to write their own music, i just mean LP actually spend a long time constructing songs and actually putting a long hard effort into making what they consider a good, strong powerful record, and doing something at least a little bit more unique than your average mainstream rock band, just take say 30 seconds to mars as a comparison, i fail to believe they put in anywhere near the effort LP do when writing songs.

As for Audioslave I dont really think Rick Rubin is the problem I think it's more Chris Cornell's terrifyingly horrific ear rape vocals, let's face it take out his vocals and that is some pretty good music, mean like the 3 other members make some pretty f***ing amazing music in a certain other band.

yeah but John Lydon also does adverts for "country life" butter in the UK and goes on celebrity reality tv shows, he has lost his credibility. Joe Strummer turns in his grave.

I was going to say, John Lydon is about the biggest hypocrite going. By all accounts he's an absolute tosser who thinks that one album gives him the god-given right to express his views on every band out there. Joey Ramone talks more sense and he's dead.

And once again the 'age generalisation' comes out. I have seen Green Day twice, both times the standing floor has been filled with people OLDER than me. I seriously dont understand how you can say their fanbase is 12 yo girls.

i dotn say 12 year old girls for green day. just 12 year old in general. if you get to 14 and over and still like green day you need to discover more music.

green day were one of my favourite bands when i was 11 ^_^
