That's because NOONE KNOWS WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON

Now come on, I explained it very clearly in the opening few posts :smoke:

Didn't somebody say somewhere along the line that the best idea would be to do the 'one big final' if participation was under 40 countries, and semis if it was over? I guess it's out of the question seeing as semis 'won' but it does seem rather pointless to weed 3 tracks out from each semi if participation stays this low.

Mind you, I did a semi to eliminate only 3 songs back in BJSC V but that was in the dark ages and I knew no better :kink:

I'd say this is probably the way forward. Then again, holidays probably also have something to do with it - JamesP's somewhere in North America, so others are probably away too. Thisispop has left the site completely. I'm trying to think who will have left because of the change from OBF to semis...

RabbitFurCoat is one. Ben's Sanctuary and PRoJ have dropped out because of lack of time/inspiration (I treied to get them back, but it wasn't happening).
Yeah actually not really many people went because of the returning to semis. I LOVE HOLIDAYS :kink:

:o When did this happen? I must have missed it completely.

Sad to lose the others due to 'lack of inspiration' if that really is the reason. Jester for one always has a clutch of lesser known tracks in his personal chart, one of which he could send :o

I'm going away for 5 weeks on the 26th, so i don't know if i can participate unless it's one big final! And even then :S

Oh, end of June. He tried the 'it's me or him' ultimatum with management over Crazy Chris, and they told him they couldn't let people try to hold them hostage over these things, so he left...

Oh :( He did loads for the site, hopefully somebody else will pick up his record of the decade competition if he doesn't return. I wouldn't let the views of one person affect my enjoyment of the site, just ignore their posts if you really can't stand to read them.

I agree, that was easily one of my favourite things on the site, his contributions were huge. But I think it's a bit petty to leave for such reasons.

On a totally unrelated note, I'm not sure if I want to enter this month. Although fairly decided, I don't really like the u-turn we've taken.

If BJSC's about to self implode and nobody's taking part anymore I'll probably just withdraw next month too tbh, I was going to stay until around or just after BJSC 30 when my uni course starts and I have zero free time  But no Nonsuch/Quotosibb/Torchwood/PROJ/Ben's Sanctuary/Utopia and about 10 others, it would feel like a very empty contest imo and the sad but true fact is, like many other people have stated in the last few months, I'm nowhere near as interested in it as I was say 18 months to a year ago :snif:

I think it's been getting gradually less 'fun' for months personally, and not because of the semis going like a lot of people have said but just in general :( Loads of people have picked up on the lack of discussion and activity since around BJSCXX, and you can't blame the one big final format for that. It's just not as exciting/interesting as it once was for a large number of reasons. Too many rules/too many polls/too much cheapness (often winning or doing well)/people playing it safe all the time/one big final vs. semis/banlist/too many silent participants etc...these aren't necessarily all things that I have a problem with but I can imagine they all annoy other people at one time or another.

And if Quotosibb leave and the others stay away, I'll probably follow suit soon after - half because of this, but half because of an increasing lack of free time, certainly come September/October onwards.

Some contradiction there. Loads of people have picked up on the lack of discussion and activity....but half because of an increasing lack of free time.

I'd add also that I don't comment much as I don't want to unduly influence others votes. In my view it's okay doing well, but doing it by spaming the forum or talking up an entry then a victory would seem hollow.

Well, if less people are interested then re-open the competition then let newbies in. I tend to think new energy would be good here.

I don't understand what you mean

On a general note, yes loads have people have picked up on the lack of discussion and activity recently (and some have blamed it on the semis disappearing). And then on an unrelated personal note, in the following paragraph, I myself have an increasing lack of free time which may halt my participation in the coming months.

On the second bolded point, I completely agree. I'd let it reopen now in fact and let people take part in this contest should they wish to confirm a song before the deadline.

Yes, if numbers decreasing, I think now would be quite a good time to open registration again - or maybe just wait until after this edition. I remember someone not long back who tried to join when registration was closed, so there must surely be others who would be willing to join.
